The twist with the bouncing ball game hilarous. Caught me off guard and gave everyone else a laugh.
The format of a short story anthology separates this game from others in the spectrum of commercial entertainment. As such, the criteria to appraise its value should also be unconventional. To me it feels like its 4 pieces deliver a different experience, yet the similarities between them allow us to see the authors' style of story telling. There are some very innovative aspects in the implementation and mechanics, and even the "museum" interface that presents all games as art exhibits helps put the player in the right mindset. Ultimately, the integration of game play and narrative is what stands out to me (particularly in the case of the 2 games with the most psychological impact: "Repair Me" and "Bubble 64"). I think that open-minded players looking for experimental narrative games will be delighted with this collection.
Great game! It was so cool finding all the achievements and playing it over and over again to try and find different ways to beat it! Looking forward for more games from the devs.
This week I had the opportunity to try Bochi Collection, a Mexican anthology of games and interactive experiences developed by the small studio Bochi Games. More than a traditional game, Bochi Collection is a narrative experience in which the included games serve as a vehicle for delivering meaningful messages. And they’re important messages, too. I think it’s fantastic that they’re presented in such creative and impactful ways. When you begin, you find yourself in a dark room with an unsettling atmosphere. In front of you are four doors, each marked with a sign that hints at what awaits inside. The first experience I chose, for example, is called Repair Me, and it tells the story of a young woman struggling with depression. The narrative unfolds through conversations between the protagonist and the part of her subconscious that wants to drag her down. It explores the journey of someone who finally decides to seek psychiatric help and begin medical treatment: the good days, the bad days, the small victories, and the relapses. The gameplay perfectly reflects this narrative. Each level is essentially a puzzle where you move a pill between neurons, trying to absorb every light and make the darkness vulnerable. On good days, the pill is powerful and success comes easily; on bad days, it’s weak, and victory can seem almost impossible. Once you help the protagonist move forward, a message shows up: overcoming depression is a slow process filled with difficulties and relapses, but recovery (with support and medication) is possible. It’s a powerful message supported by simple gameplay that feels perfectly suited to the story being told. Since there are only four experiences in total, I’d rather not spoil the others and instead let you discover them for yourself. You just need to know that the collection explores difficult and sensitive topics, always leaving you with a meaningful message at the end. Themes such as abandonment and violence are paired with familiar mechanics like platforming and exploration. But just like Repair Me, every experience introduces either a narrative twist or a gameplay shift that completely subverts your expectations. I found that particularly clever because it reinforces the emotional message each story is trying to convey. Bochi Collection will take you somewhere between 40 minutes and an hour to complete. Even though it’s a short experience, I really appreciated what it set out to do and the way it accomplished it. It tackles important themes, and while the gameplay itself is relatively simple, it does a good job of challenging established conventions in subtle ways. Because of that, I’d love to see this team continue exploring this approach and expand on these ideas with future games or interactive experiences. More importantly, considering how inexpensive Bochi Collection is, it’s hard to think of many other products that offer something as meaningful for the price.
Very beautiful game, I loved it, I purchased the supporter pack after completing the game, if you loved the game and want to give an extra support the the developers this is a good way.
