Blasters of the Universe is the first of its kind, bringing the bullet hell genre into first person VR. Intense gameplay is heavily reliant on physical movement, requiring the player to duck, dodge, twist, turn, and maneuver their way through tons of enemies and hundreds of bullets.

Gameplay is amazing, graphics are great; I feel like I'm actually in an early 90's/late 80's movie about computer games. It's hilarious and fun. Lots of fun gun mechanics to swap out and play around with. However, be warned: this game is like the games of that period... in that it is super hard. Think Contra hard. Summarily, this is a bullet-hell 80's sci-fi tron-style shoot-em-up. Great fun.
Blasters of the Universe is a love letter to the classic 2D or top down shoot 'em up arcade games and the VR support modernizes this almost forgotten genre with far evolution. Watch a snippet of gameplay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3zYBBd8krY The game only has four levels, which is not much, but this disadvantage is compensated by the high level of difficulty and the high replayability of the levels. The tracking of the headset and the controllers work like a charm and if you do encounter a problem, it is solved by recalibrating. The game has a high 'one more time' effect and is a joy to play. If you don't like physical exertion, then this game is not for you, because you will have to work hard to finish the game on the 'Hell' difficulty setting.

This is an awesome game! Imagine being a kid in the 80's, dropping quarters in your local arcade, dreaming of what it would be like if Virtual Reality were real. This is what you'd get. And it's epic. This game plays like Space Pirate Trainer, except it's retro 1980's SciFi similar to Blood Dragon. It has multiple levels that get extremely difficult, utilizing full room motion and dodging from a range of robots, flying machines, and bad guys. The sound, music, characters, so retro-futuristic. Love this game.
One of the better VR wave shooters, strictly because of the customization and bullet hell mechanic. Bullet hells tend to be really tough, and you can imagine that playing one in VR is extra tough, but the saving grace is that the player's hitbox is only their head. So while you wormhole your head in between bullets, you're shooting that the things that are causing all the bullets to try to mitigate how much you need to dodge. There are a few ways to customize your gameplay. Different guns can be made out of parts, from bullets and rate of fire to "extra" effects like bouncing bullets. There are a few shields to pick from, too, but they don't block very much. The focus is very much on dodging with the use of shields as a crutch for when things are getting crazy. There are four levels and a few bosses thrown in the mix, along with infinite modes for each of the levels. It's a pretty good game for the price. Game provided via the Steam Curator program. Very well-done bullet hell FPS in VR. + Visuals are excellent, with great retro feel. Same can be said for the sound effects and voice acting. Love the 80s vibe. + Game mechanics make sense and work very well together. + Good pace at which the difficulty increases. + Variety of customization for your guns and abilities. - I can't find the menu. - The field of view actually makes the game more difficult, you can't see enemies left and right like you would with your real life eyes. Overall I totally recommend the game. If you are remarkably good at games it will certainly give you satisfaction while playing it. Plus you get to strike some good moves while dodging bullets and all. Definitely entertaining for anyone watching you play.
At 3.75 Euro I would say it's a good price, but this game is not for everyone. As others have said, the bullets fly really slow so you always have to wait and shoot only when you know where the enemy will stop, or else you'll just waste bullets. So the game is to try to shoot the targets that have stopped while dodging bullets from all directions. Here is another problem, most of the time, the only way to dodge the bullets is to get low, VERY low every few seconds and this will make your legs hurt a lot. Me, after 30-40 minutes of playing this game felt like my legs could barely hold me and I am I dare say more athletic than the average guy. The graphics look cool and the sounds are great. The music is an 80's electronic throwback and I've enjoyed it. I love the aesthetic of the game and the music too, but I don't know... the gameplay is a dread. It is not fun enough to make me go through all that pain in my legs again. At least not soon. I almost refunded the game, but considering that I've payed only 3.75 Euro for it I am willing to give it another chance down the line, but I would not recommend this to any of my friends.
If someone reviews a delisted game on Steam, does anyone read it? Blasters of the Universe is the best wave-based VR shooter I've played because they kept the scope small and put a ton of effort into it. The real standout point versus the slew of other VR games like this is the weapon customization: you unlock weapon parts as you progress through levels which you can use to modify your gun's body, magazine, ammunition, barrel, and attachments to suit your needs per level. The only problem with this is the game seems balanced around each map requiring a certain build, and you unlock those parts from that map. This means you'll probably have to play through each level at least twice, once to get the weapon parts, and again to actually finish it. There's only four levels, but there's a different boss at the end of each, and there's an endless mode available too. This was originally $15, I purchased it for $5.09, and the last sales for it put it down to $1.99. I definitely got my money's worth playing through it three times, plus some time in endless, but even the base price was worth it when you consider the usual "VR tax". If you have a headset and you can get a key from somewhere it's definitely worth picking up. One of the few "VR launch" titles that makes good use of room scale tracking, isn't complete jank or ugly, and feels like an actual video game.
Basically wave shooter with bullet hell. Nearest game would be Space pirate trainer but you gotta have to choose what weapon and shield you want to bring at each level. This game has been a surprise. I got this from a bundle and it just been polished since then. The animations and levels are super nice. Graphics and sound design is great. Gameplay and customization is cool too. It's a solid game but not I'm going to return very often, maybe just do the challenges once a week or so. The reason why I'm not very keen on playing this game to death is there's no reliable thing to do iron sights without sacrificing 1 part(laser sight). While I can still aim at hip, I like to aim for high accuracy heavy dps build and the best thing I can do is to use an instant travel projectile with a semi-auto clip that refills itself upon enemy kill. Then a shield that energizes and do a shotgun fire. So for me: SPT > This game but if it comes to demoing vr to new ppl, this game beats SPT.
Great game! Edit- several months after buying the game, i feel differently than i did originally. I'm not much of a game player in general, but this is one of the few i keep coming back to- it doesn't have a deep story, i don't have to run around for hours to find a key that gives me access to an elevator which gets me access to a power amplifier that i have to go all the way back to stick into something just so i can access another level- it's a "simple" arcade game, but wow It's amazing. If you're the type that loves the olden games like galaxian/galaga, space invaders, asteroids, defender etc etc, this is the game for you- none of that story driven bull$hit, just plain old arcade style destruction. There are options to make it easier to play when you're starting out, and tons of weapons/defense combos to play with. It would be supercool to have mods or user developed levels, but maybe that'll come in the future.
Game will be Removed in May If You Want it, buy it now.
