Meteoroids 3D is a simple action game set in space, which wants to pay tribute to a great game of the eighties: Asteroids. Meteoroids 3D does not pretend to be better, or try to emulate the greatness of Asteroids. We just want to bring a funny and addictive game to the players.

Meteoroids 3D is an unabashed ripoff of Asteroids (copyright Atari 1979), although given the badly done 3D format for the game the "developer" behind this trash may avoid legal action, although they certainly went out of their way to try to make it look like they're deliberately infringing Atari's copyright and trademarks. What you get is technically Asteroids, but 3D... and extremely badly made, with floaty controls, mouse not properly inverted by default, terrible music (you can turn that off) really crap sound effects (you can't turn those off) and some of the worst gameplay I've ever seen in my life, and with over 10,000 reviews on Steam, I've seen some of the worst. So that's a big achievement for this game. It's hard to be this bad, even on purpose, but here we are. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with. The controls and game handling are notably very floaty and imprecise. It's janky and unsatisfying to play... and any experienced gamer will tell you, the handling, responsiveness and general gameplay feel of the control scheme must be well polished for this kind of game to succeed. Unfortunately, this is something the developer seems to have phoned in, with little to no apparent gameplay testing or polish done. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Meteoroids 3D didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for destroying 50 asteroids, trivial to get, but less than 35 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game. The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the game all-time peak player count was only ONE player. That's right, only one person ever played this at a time. When I played this for the purposes of reviewing it, I equalled the peak player count for the game. OUCH. The only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. Meteoroids 3D has the pathetically optimistic price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam.
Profile Features Limited!
Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
