Really wish there was a mixed option. The pixel art is really nice and there's some decent potential for the gameplay to expand if this ever gets a sequel (it wont because its under Nicalis) but the last world has an obnoxious difficulty spike when everything around you is signaling that you're supposed to feel unstoppable
especially the level on the robo dino
. The final boss alone probably took up about a third of my playtime because there's so much nonstop visual/audio noise that it felt like pure luck when I finally beat him. Also, some of the dialogue hasn't aged very well as there's a solid minute of dialogue that's just rewording the navy seals copypasta and I genuinely had to stop playing for a minute to recompose my will to keep playing.

If you like Gunstar Heroes, then you'll like Spectacular Sparky
Dinámico, colorido, divertido, TREPIDANTE, un juego ideal para jugar en modo portátil. La dificultad está muy contenida y la sucesión de jefes se da a un buen ritmo que no te permite aburrirte
Short and simple, but tough enough to keep you busy for a while. Also Sparky is crazy and I love him
Sparky turned out to be a very charming game that reminded me of something old-school Treasure would have made, which is great praise for how well the overall experience turned out to be. The campaign was enjoyable and I liked the banter the first time around in encounters, though the game really could have used a skip cutscene option for repeats instead of pressing B to skip every single section of dialog. The difficulty felt fair to me outside of maybe two or three check points that felt like they existed more for the fact the area wasn't really balanced well more than really needing to be in the game. Overall, it's good in presentation as far as visuals and sound goes and good for a playthrough or two at least. It played well on my Steam Deck without any hiccups, which is great for this kind of run and gun game.
Spectacular Sparky is an energetic retro-inspired action platformer developed by FreakZone Games and published by Nicalis, Inc. Built as a tribute to the fast-paced side-scrolling shooters of the 16-bit era, the game captures the excitement of classic run-and-gun adventures while introducing its own distinctive sense of humor and personality. Rather than simply recreating familiar mechanics, it blends colorful visuals, fluid movement, and comedic storytelling into a package that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly modern. Its arcade-style design encourages players to jump straight into the action without unnecessary complexity, making it accessible while still offering enough challenge to satisfy fans of the genre. Players step into the shoes of Sparky, an eccentric bounty hunter who travels across the galaxy to capture an assortment of dangerous criminals. The story embraces a playful tone from beginning to end, using witty dialogue and exaggerated character interactions to keep the adventure entertaining. Sparky's conversations with his unusual assistant, Shigg, help establish a quirky science-fiction setting filled with bizarre creatures and equally strange villains. While the narrative never aims for emotional depth, it succeeds by giving players a lighthearted reason to continue progressing through increasingly dangerous missions. The gameplay focuses on speed, precision, and nonstop movement. Sparky can run, leap across hazardous environments, dash through danger, fire in multiple directions, and even use his oversized ears to extend his jumps. These abilities create a highly responsive control system that rewards both quick reflexes and careful timing. Platforming sequences constantly introduce spikes, moving obstacles, collapsing platforms, and environmental hazards that demand accurate movement without ever feeling unfair. Combat is equally satisfying, allowing players to stay aggressive while weaving through enemy attacks and maintaining a steady pace throughout every stage. Enemy variety plays a significant role in preventing the action from becoming repetitive. Every level introduces new alien creatures, robotic opponents, and environmental threats that require players to adjust their tactics. Boss encounters stand out as some of the game's strongest moments, featuring creative designs, multiple attack patterns, and visually impressive battles that test both movement and shooting skills. These encounters provide satisfying difficulty spikes while maintaining the game's fun and energetic atmosphere, making each completed bounty feel rewarding. Visually, Spectacular Sparky embraces a colorful pixel art style that pays homage to classic console games without appearing outdated. Character animations are expressive, environments are packed with detail, and each stage presents a unique visual identity through varied backgrounds and imaginative level themes. Bright color palettes and smooth animation make the world feel lively, while the detailed sprite work gives every enemy and boss its own memorable appearance. The visual presentation successfully balances retro aesthetics with modern polish, resulting in a game that looks timeless rather than old-fashioned. The audio design reinforces the game's energetic identity through upbeat music and impactful sound effects. Fast-paced tracks accompany the action with catchy melodies that perfectly match the game's arcade-inspired gameplay. Weapon blasts, explosions, enemy defeats, and movement abilities all provide satisfying audio feedback that enhances every encounter. Voice acting for Sparky further strengthens his personality, adding humor to both story moments and gameplay without becoming distracting or repetitive. Although the game delivers polished mechanics and consistently enjoyable action, it remains focused on providing a streamlined arcade experience instead of a lengthy or deeply complex adventure. Players searching for branching storylines, extensive exploration, or elaborate progression systems may find the campaign relatively straightforward. However, this simplicity works in the game's favor, allowing the responsive gameplay and carefully designed levels to remain the primary focus. Its concise structure encourages replayability, giving players opportunities to improve their performance, refine their movement, and conquer stages more efficiently. Spectacular Sparky succeeds by understanding exactly what it wants to be. It captures the spirit of classic run-and-gun platformers while introducing enough original charm through its humor, characters, polished controls, and colorful presentation to stand on its own. The satisfying combination of fast combat, enjoyable platforming, memorable boss fights, and vibrant audiovisual design makes it an easy recommendation for fans of retro-inspired action games. While it may not redefine the genre, it delivers a consistently entertaining adventure that respects its influences while offering plenty of personality. Rating: 8/10
Jogo muito legal achei a PixelArt dele muito linda, os personagens são bem bobos e engraçados só senti falta de legenda em português mas ainda assim recomendo.
