I heartily recommend this game : beautiful scenes and interesting mystery to solve. Having said that, the game definitely has some flaws. The protagonist walks -very- slowly, and this can get quite frustrating. The game is almost perfectly linear, which means you have to (re)visit the exact location or person at exactly the right time before the game lets you continue. I also got stuck at one place (where the researcher needs to tell you the meaning of 3 names). I'm not sure if I failed to revisit the expected location/person, or if this is a bug (see the discussion about the jacket). I solved most of the puzzles without a walkthrough, so no complaints about the difficulty of the game. One other minor thing: I feel like there are some gaps in the side-story about the asylum, but perhaps we'll learn more in game 2 ? - played on Windows 10 -

Posla Smrti jsem dlouhé roky míjel a neustále odkládal. Vždycky to byl jeden z těch restů, které jsem si chtěl někdy doplnit, zvlášť když mám rád české adventury. Teď, po dohrání, jen nechápu, proč jsem s tím čekal tak dlouho. Tahle hra je totiž naprosto fantastická. Největší předností je bez debat příběh. Temné vyprávění o kletbě rodu Gordonů a panství Black Mirror mě vtáhlo prakticky okamžitě a po celou dobu jsem chtěl vědět, co se vlastně stalo a jak to celé dopadne. Atmosféra je skvělá, místy až mrazivá, a právě díky ní má hra i po více než dvaceti letech stále obrovské kouzlo. Velkou pochvalu si zaslouží také hudba, která perfektně dokresluje jednotlivé lokace i situace. Ještě více mě ale potěšil dabing. Sešla se zde opravdu hvězdná sestava herců - Vladimír Čech, Pavel Soukup, Michal Dlouhý v hlavní roli Samuela Gordona a legendy jako Radoslav Brzobohatý nebo Květa Fialová. Poslouchat jejich výkony byla radost a na svou dobu je hra ozvučená opravdu kvalitně. Jediná věc, která mě během hraní zlobila, bylo neustálé nastavování zvuku a dabingu po každém novém spuštění hry. Nevím, jestli je to problém Steam verze nebo vlastnost, kterou měla už původní CD verze, ale bylo to trochu otravné. Jinak ale nemám hře prakticky co vytknout. Pokud máte rádi adventury a Posla Smrti jste dosud nehráli, rozhodně to napravte. I dnes jde o výbornou hru s fantastickým příběhem, skvělou atmosférou a nezapomenutelným dabingem. Pro mě osobně jedno z nejpříjemnějších herních překvapení za poslední dobu.

Having just completed the game, I feel compelled to note that I found the ending...... very sudden and unbalanced. I wasn't necessarily expecting something fluffy at the end, but I WAS expecting something narratively cathartic. This was not that. I would still highly recommend this game to people who enjoyed The Longest Journey -- I picked it up because it was in a list of recommended games for people who enjoyed that title. What I liked: The environments and art direction are MARVELOUS. Every environment felt lived-in and well-thought-out, and I found myself lingering frequently to admire the set dressing. The music was pretty good! The main Black Mirror theme suits the game well. The game being fully voiced is a HUGE plus for me, and I found that Samuel especially was well-cast. Some things that took me out of it: The game can be a bit unintuitive at times.... Don't be afraid to crack open a guide or walkthrough, there are some bits that I found completely interminable without one. Many of the British characters have American accents...... I understand that this game was developed somewhere other than the UK?? But that did feel a bit weird, especially during the bits set in Wales. Anyway, I came to this game for it 'retro' factor, and retro is what I got, so I can't really complain.
