The first time I played Beholder was a few years ago. Recently, I picked up the game again to hunt for all the achievements. That was when I started appreciating the game all over again. Beholder is a game where you play for a government that only does what it feels like doing. Your choices either contribute to the current regime or help the resistance. Every choice has an impact on the story to some extent, which I find incredibly impressive. Getting all the achievements does require some puzzling: who should you evict and who shouldn't get evicted. The DLC acts like a prequel to the main story, where you have to prevent yourself from... no longer being needed in society. I can wholeheartedly recommend this game for both a relaxing afternoon of gaming and for an achievement hunt.
I have to admit this is actually a good game. But I don't recommend it to many people. The core is really good on the anti-utopia concept. Playing is immersive. But the entire visual and storyline, as long as the pace of gaming, all give me a feeling of pressure - it is too stressful for me as a game. I feel like the game is in the direction of leading me to hopelessness and despair. To reach a good end, it is actually very difficult. I have to give up at some point. But it is still a very nice social engine game I would say. Maybe I should watch some stream players' walkthrough video instead. I like the game, but just don't like playing it myself.
