EDIT: Below is the review I had 2 years ago about this. The developers have abandoned this game and vanished completely, while they're sitting playing other video games. Pathetic how this turned out. I knew one of the developers personally and they have even ghosted further communication in real life. OLD REVIEW: This game turns the idea of slay the spire and makes it into a genre thats absolutely amazing. Yes it is still in early access, and there may be small text bugs/ect, but it does not outshine what this game will become once they are done making it. fantastic job with this project guys. Pros: amazing strategy in the card system, very good story, great world immersion, and the difficulty for the game is for sure high in my opinion which is a plus for me, for some it may be a con. Cons: It is in early access, so I know there may be small bugs here and there. Small QoL changes but it really isnt a chase away factor.
Bought the game after the balance patch. It still isn’t in a playable state which is a pity. Art, ambience and music are all great. But it’s no fun to play, I just got irrited by the power of the enemies and the beast. I have requested a refund.
Rough around the edges, but fantastic potential. Animation, music, mechanics... All 10/10. Translation issues, lack of enough details in the interface and bugs will be smoothed out as time goes on. Strongly recommend giving it a try if you like that FTL/Slay the Spire feel.
I'm sorry, but no. Not for 25 effin' dollars in an EA. I've already ran into two game-breaking bugs (both involving the shop). Everything is EXTREMELY glitchy, I've had one crash. The shop is a complete sh*t show. So many glitches/menu errors. Honestly too: the loot system is rather bunk. You should not be able to "lose loot quality" based on a damned coin toss. Mission are NOT worth doing. There only seem to be about 5 enemies (not including the 4 or so bosses) (beast looks just like one of them) After 4 runs.. I've seem maybe 2/3 different cards from the base ones. Some artifacts don't work correctly or if you buy something.. sometimes it never appears in your inventory. Many things are in french in random places, which is fine for the most part. Where it is not fine is when it applies to cards/skills/passive/explanations - I have no idea what multiple things do. The codex (THE CODEX) doesn't explain any status effects/buffs. Oh joy. The loading times can be odd and excessive, most especially seen before/after battles and the initial start up. Some people can't even play now due to startup issues. I had to uninstall it twice, and move the EXE before I could get it to work. The initial "decks/builds" are kinda meh and not varied, it feels it is lack SO much content. All that said. The art is awesome; the style of gameplay is unique and rather fun. Combat is pretty fun once you get the hang of it.. but there's just no range. I'd wait for TON more updates or if you can get it for 5 bucks for a few hours of semi-frustrating fun. Have I mentioned how *absolutely awful* the shop is? Howe many things are just not explained?! Pro tip w/the shop: Sell one thing, then leave. buy one thing than leave. Exchange one thing than leave. "&%$#%^"
Just too difficult to be fun, or else it's not very clear on the best way to play. Haven't been able to even get close to beating the first boss. Only get a couple of fights to get 'stronger' but the rewards for those fights are 1 Max HP or healing 9 HP, but you've already lost half your health by thahttps://store.steampowered.com/app/1948290/Before_The_Last_Hour/#t time, so healing 9 is meaningless. Spend most of the turns just moving to a blank empty tile with no events or fights, so out of the 16 turns you're given, only 4 of them actually do something (and it's usually either just negative or just giving you a fractional reward that doesn't really help you). Loot system isn't actually loot, just max HP bumps of 1 (when you start with 225 or so, that's not exactly impactful). Sad because it has a nice aesthetic but I just can't recommend it and had to request a refund.
Game won't even start. Start menu is bugged. Sad because the game looks great in trailers and I wish I could actually play it.
The art is gorgeous, the ambiance is even better. I do NOT recommend the game but I still gave positive review to cheers devs! So why da ♥♥♥♥ do i not recommend the game already? First, the game is almost not a rogue lite, the only unlock you get are classes. So you will get punished by the game for not playing perfectly to a tune that you don't know yet (and is frankly poorly explained: the game mechanics are hard to get; points given to the originality). So to progress further you need a good memory to learn the good event choices, a bucket full of luck to get nice enough bonuses during those events and maybe you can beat those bosses laying in wait for you. Honestly, I am looking forward at the developpement of the game but as of right know buy the game only if like crushing difficulty and playing the game loop over and over. Will be nice to at least unlock the weapons you get for nexts runs (that help replayability and sense of progress) or maybe keep the restauration you made on weapons if you get it again.
