Rytmik Studio

The Rytmik series, including Rytmik Studio, is a music production software aimed particularly at hobby producers and beginners. It seeks to offer an intuitive interface and simple ways to create music, but unfortunately, it only partially succeeds in this and has quite some weaknesses that limit it compared to professional Digital Audio Workstations like Ableton Live, Bitwig or Logic. So, if you want to start making music/beats, I would rather suggest starting somewhere else. A tip from me: get AKAI MPC Beats instead, this software is free and much more intuitive. There are also other free DAWs and ways to get Lite versions, all of which are better and therefore more advisable than Rytmik. I will mention a few more points of criticism in a moment, but first I want to say that some time ago, I contacted the developer and asked whether there was a discount or sponsorship available for organizations. After a certain amount of time, I received a brief and rather cold response, asking me to send links to the organizations. I thanked them for their reply, wrote a few lines of information, and included the links. However, I never received another response, which is usually warning enough for me and definitely a lousy way to handle things. If you’re unable or unwilling to be socially engaged, that’s fine - but at the very least, honest communication should be expected. At that time, we had just started offering workshops on video game music and two participants wanted to work with Rytmik for what ever reason. So, I purchased a bundle with my own money and now, after all this time, here is the summary: none of the participants found working with Rytmik particularly exciting or fun, it was considered just okay. I personally find the price-performance ratio not very convincing. There is too much stuff and too many similar Rytmik versions, all of which are overpriced. And, those looking for customizable sounds will be disappointed. Additionally, it has limited export options and sound optimization, a lack of further development and an unappealing UI. It was a close call, but I can recommend Rytmik Studio to those who can wait for a sale, want to experiment or compare a bit, appreciate software that runs smoothly on Steam and are looking for community support, though I haven’t tested that myself and can only assume it’s probably okay. Well, it seems like it. Anyone expecting more control, flexibility and professional features, will quickly reach the software’s limits. This tool is suitable for very simple compositions and first steps, but for serious music production, there are better and more powerful alternatives, which you should rather prefer ; )

It's been four years with no updates to the program, which the developer assured was almost ready and would be released in approximately two months. At first, the developer stayed in touch - I even helped translate the program into Ukrainian (the translation remains rough and it can no longer be updated since there have been no further releases) - but then everything stopped. The program itself is a rather simple utility for creating MIDI compositions (and not only), yet it has ambitions of depth. It's quite entertaining to play around with for a couple of hours and you can even create something more or less serious if you load your own samples. The interface is easy to get used to and the local logic is easy to adapt to. It's a great shame that development was abandoned. With proper attention, the program could have turned out to be truly original and unique.

It breaks my heart that this is abandonware. I grew up with these trackers from DSi to 3DS to PC, and they have enabled me to cultivate a lifelong love of music composition. This is I think one of the very few things of its kind that really only ever got better with iteration. You can tell that this project was made with a lot of love, even as things got worse for the studio over time. Thank you, to everyone who put their time and energy into developing this piece of software, in each of its iterations.

The user interface is completely unintuitive. Figuring it out is a real ordeal just to understand how everything works. On top of that, it has been in early access for many years, and it seems like the developers have abandoned it. There are plenty of other programs that are free, easier to use, and continue to receive updates. Пользовательский интерфейс совершенно непонятен. Разбираться в нём — одно мучение, чтобы понять, как всё работает. К тому же, он находится в раннем доступе уже много лет, и кажется, что разработчики его забросили. Существует множество других программ, которые бесплатные, проще в использовании и продолжают обновляться.

Rytmik Studio is okay, I guess. If you're willing to figure out the complicated interface and like making retro-sounding tunes, then you might find it enjoyable, but personally, I didn't find it to be a very useful music-making tool. One of its biggest flaws, in my opinion, in the short amount of time I used it, is that it can't import MIDI files. The reason I got Rytmik Studio was so I could make retro-sounding music. I usually use BandLab Studio to make music, and I really like it, but it doesn't have many retro-sounding instrument options. Since Rytmik Studio is a little complicated, I thought I could at least make a track in BandLab and import the MIDI file into Rytmik Studio to give it a more retro-sounding instrument without needing to interact with its complicated interface, but no. It doesn't seem that Rytmik Studio can import or export MIDI files, so I would have to deal with its complicated setup. I feel like other music-making programs I've used are easier to figure out. I tried one called Bosca Coeil before I knew BandLab existed, which can make nice retro sounds, but it's kind of basic which makes the workflow slow. I thought that Rytmik Studio would be significantly more advanced than Bosca Ceoil, but it doesn't seem like it's all that different. They both work with note chunks. I was kind of hoping Rytmik Studio would work more similarly to BandLab, with draggable note regions, but it only makes note chunks of fixed sizes, kind of like Bosca Ceoil. On the plus side, Rytmik Studio allows you to export your song as a WAV or MP3 file, so if you like its interface and you want to save your song, it does give you that option. Overall, I'd recommend this program to someone who likes to make simple, retro-sounding tunes and doesn't mind the learning curve. I wouldn't recommend it to people who like convenience and flexibility. It's an okay program, but it just doesn't serve my needs.

I would recommend Rytmik to anybody interested in starting composing, its way easier than FL, and although its less creatively free, constructing songs is incredibly easy and not hard once you get a feel down. Tragically, the software seems to have been abandoned by the developers, and I cant find their discord anywhere, but that doesn't take away from how good of a program this is, because you can still make banger's, and you can still have fun doing it.

With this still being early access and no updates since 18th of May 2021, I can't really recommend this.

Чувствую, что программа интересная и в хорошем смысле непривычная, но так и не смогла запустить Rytmik Studio (почему-то программа ловит фриз в самом начале при запуске и не выходит из него, в чём причина - не понятно; удаление всяческих папок по гайдам пробовала - бесполезно), хотя Ultimate и Lite работают корректно. Возможно, дополню и изменю коммент, когда либо пойму, как реанимировать Studio, либо наизучаю Ultimate.
