Bearslayer is a one-button platformer/puzzle game based on a Latvian epic poem. You control your hero and lead him through the obstacles, described in the epic itself. Don’t let seemingly easy controls fool you, the game gives a good challenge due to interesting level design. I kid you not, you'll be coming back and wishing for more, just like that time when you ate your first ice cream as a kid.
Pros
- Amazing levels, each one requires it's own approach. Not even once the game felt boring or repetitive. - Good game design, you’ll be surprised what obstacles you can pass and puzzles solve with only one button available - Actually smooth controls, the jumps are very responsive - Challenging difficulty - Skill-Based gameplay - Distinct style and cool effects - Amazing Music (if you like folk music - grab this one simply for the music, hopefully the devs will release the soundtrack separately).
Cons
- Somewhat Short (at least during at the time of writing) – took me about 3h to complete, without special levels (which are insanely hard) - Not much of a plot - At the point of writing this review, some bounding boxes (spikes?) seem to be a bit too big, you can’t always properly predict when you slide into them when going down the walls.
Summary
Overall, I’d say that it’s a good blend between puzzle and platformer. If you like platformers/runners or fast puzzles – you definitely won’t be disappointed. If you want something EXTRA challenging – there are also secret amber pieces that you need to collect in order to uncover super-challenging secret levels. Guys, let's get real here. At this price, the game is fully worth it. Depending on your country of residence, you can get ~4 big macs for that. Pros of getting a big mac: you eat and don't die of starvation for one day. Pros of getting Bearslayer: you get an amazing experience that gets you entertained and don't die of your existential dread because the game triggered your aesthetic pleasure centers in your brain, making your life a bit brighter. I made my choice, now it's time to make yours. Small Hint: it's not Big Macs. Full review video if anyone's interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tW_YtDdQPo
[Linux / SteamOS version review]
Fast-paced one button platformer. Nice sounds and music, beautiful hand-drawn game! Really hard as devs say "you will die a LOT". RAGE QUIT guaranteed! Achievements is hard too (complete level without dying it's like joke) This game is for players who loves hardcore platformers like N++, Meatboy, 1001 Spikes, etc. Linux build played fast and smooth. Did't find any problems with perfomance too (played on laptop i3 2310m + nvidia 540M+ 8Gb RAM with installed Kubuntu 16.04) I recomend to buy this game!
Fun platformer with some beautiful graphics, also love the theme song :)
Game looks awesome and plays really smooth. Only thing that bothers me - level difficulty is not really ascending, but more like random. You can get stuck on level 2 while jump through last levels without even dying once. Music is also superb - I wonder if the soundtrackwill be available for purchase? Would definitely want that on my playlist.
This is awesome game, with just only one button !
Fast and dynamic. Love it!
Absolutely love this game. A lot of the puzzles feel quite hard, but the more you play it the better you get, and when you solve a particularly hard puzzle you really do feel like you've accomplished something. Sound track is amazing and the visuals are just fantastic. Would definitelty reccomend to others.
Very addictive game. Art is amazing. Gameplay isnt repetitive. Bearsayer is pushing your reaction limits to next level.
