Fun Simple tower defense game. Some of the buzz of it having pokemon elements are a bit misleading. The game mechanics aren't anything to out of the normal for a tower defense game.
Extremely poor level design - due to the combination of the spawn locations and the flying units it basically makes placing anywhere besides close to the end of the level pointless. When it mentioned "upgrade paths" - I was expecting actually being able to spec into a preferred style of play which is also absent.
It has it's strong points but ultimately it's not that fun to play. Progression just becomes too tedious even early in the game. Levels already feel too much of the same and then you're forced to redo levels and do bothersome challenges to get more upgrades. The towers lack variety, there aren't enough different possible strategies to beat a stage and the stages themselves aren't dynamic. If the definition of a game is a series of interesting choices then Bean Beast just doesn't have enough choices to make.

Really enjoying the game so far. I'm near the end of the first zone and having a lot of fun with the level designs. I've never really been a big tower defense fan but this game does it in a way that tickles my brain in the right ways. You unlock towers as you progress through the levels and it does a good job of letting you really experiment with them. If you fail or don't like the results of how things turned out, you can at any time use the option of either restarting the whole level from scratch, or from the beginning of the current wave before you spent resources on towers. I played the first couple levels on the normal difficulty and found it too easy, so I kicked it up to heroic difficulty and its just right. The first boss was hard as hell but through many retries, it pushed me to learn how push and combine mechanics into interesting strategies that I would need going forward. Things like controlling enemy pathing using boxes, selling and replacing boxes mid wave to change the path of enemies as needed, understanding the upgrades and effects of the towers and abilities. and understanding the enemies and their interactions with certain terrain. All in all, its a very cool experience that I've been enjoying as my game to relax with before bed.

A nice tower defence that rewards persistence and trying new strategies as you progress.
