Beached
As a game and removing myself from the fact it's now 2020, almost 3 years after this game was released in Early Access I would recommend this game. In fact, in my curator page I DO recommend this game but I make sure to put it in the category I so named "barely recommended" because in my opinion this game does have good gameplay potential. However, here I can see that after almost 3 years and no improvements to the game I can't recommend this game if you want at least more than 2 hours of enjoyment. This game is still at the base, core functions that it arrived on Steam with, with no updates or any improvements. Pros - The game works. - The game looks alright despite simple graphics. - All functions and mechanics of the game works. - Music isn't too overpowering. - Reeks of potential. - Chicken Cons - I wasn't aware that the bar at the side of the screen was an actions/crafting bar. Some text above would have benefitted it. - No tutorial or options. Especially when the UI isn't all that telling. - What you have is all there is, after 3 years of this game being released the core functions is all the game has. There's no extra "escape the island" "build a raft" or even options to build. Not needed but it would keep me playing at least a bit longer. - In addition to the last point, the island is kinda tiny if you think about it. You'd run out of resources at some point. From what I see things don't regenerate either. - You can only see items on the ground when you're standing on them, a 1 - 2 square view range would be nice. - A storage system is needed as each square has an invisible item limit which sends any items over the limit into the void, never to be seen again. I started playing this game and as per usual the game is too loud, so I alt-tab to turn the games volume down with the volume mixer to then find that the game isn't even in my taskbar. That was fun, so I had to start all over again. I wander around for 10 minutes, pick a whole bunch of stuff up and try slamming them together by dragging them on top of each other. I then figured out that the bar at the side was an action/crafting bar, but by then it was too late and I was dying from dehydration. So another game, I know how to craft. I have my fishing rod and my hatchet and I'm chopping logs and fishing, but I can't eat raw fish, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I can't realise my island sushi bar dream. So now I need to make a fire. I try so many different combinations. Logs, twigs, grass, rocks, flowers, reeds. I couldn't figure out the combination. So I exit the game and look at the discussions and the recipe is in a discussion thread. Cool. Now I have to start the entire game over again. Honestly, I wouldn't buy this game for money, so it's good that it's free. There's a lot of things here that make this game a "bad game" but most of these are things that are easily rectified. This game still has potential and if the dev suddenly comes back and starts making improvements again I'd be first in line to try them out. _____________8__88_____8 ____________88_8__8_____8 ___________888_____88___88888 __________8888______88_8____88 _________8888_______88______8_8 _________8888_______88______8_8 _________8888_______8_______8 _________8888_____8_______8 __________88888____8______8 ___________8888888______8 __888_________88888_8 8888888________88_____ _8888888_______8_____ __888888_______88_____ ___88_____8_____8_____ ____8______8____8_____8_88 _______8888_8__88_8_88888 _____888888_8_88__8888888 ____8888888__88______88888 ____88888_____8_________888 ____88_________8__________8 _____8_________8_____ _______________8_____ ____________8_8_____ _____________88_8_____ ______________88_____ ______________8_____

"Beached" is an extremely badly made XNA Studio based 2D retro pixel survival game that the developer couldn't work out how to finish but published it on Steam anyway. So pretty quickly we already have a whole bunch of reasons not to download this train wreck. The developers abandoned this 7 years and 6 months ago. It will never be completed. This unfinished game is just polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuinely, completely made games. This features really godawful, lazy pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks bad because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $1 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on unfinished, low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. This is a slap in the face to anyone naive enough to back this project thinking the developer would make good on their promises. Instead, the developers kept the money from all the backers they scammed. Not a single cent has been refunded. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 10 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
its kinda bad
