Battlefield 3's campaign is just "ok". 6/10 maybe. It is a great campaign to just fill the hole of wanting to play a story game/fps campaign for a couple hours and have fun gunning down NPCs. The story is pretty good and unique for it's time and it still has it's unexpected moments, but it isn't really anything spectacular or to marvel about. It does expect you to mourn over your teammates dying after knowing them for 20 minutes, but that's normal for shooter campaigns and the deaths do actually make sense in the storyline instead of just killing off characters because they can. The sound design is great and the guns do feel realistic, however the hit detection is sometimes spotty and enemies often get back up after eating 4 shots from a rifle. This game DOES excel at it's cinematic and realistic military moments. The mission "Going Hunting" is a shining example at this where everything feels extremely realistic yet fun. It seems like the developers really cared about making the game realistic yet fun. Moments like these were incredibly immersive. It's really shown it's age and EA could have gone in and given it one work week worth of bug fixes to improve. I've heard the multiplayer is outstanding, and with it being a Battlefield game, I would expect nothing less. Battlefield is typically known for it's okay-ish campaigns but spectacular multiplayer. I'm not really into multiplayer shooters, but I am glad that this game has it's place. I did actually enjoy the multiplayer in BF6 and BF2042. Overall, it's a decent campaign but nothing too special. I do recommend it, as the issues and whatnot are tiny and I am just nitpicking.
