I really wanted to give this a positive review but due to the fact I have no one to play this with and waited for ages in my lobby, I have to give it a thumbs down. Maybe one day I'll come back around to redoing this review again but with some mates this time.
Great game, somehow ran into the dev of this game in a random discord call I was in. Got to playing the game, then another random guy joined us. In 20 minutes we had a four man lobby playing this new ridiculous game that was new for all three of us! Definite fun in small bites. What you expect from a free game, open, play, enjoy. Even if its for 30 minutes to 2 hours of fun; its pretty good. Try it!
amazing game. love to see an undeground game like this deliver at a low, but valuable price. 9/10 (9.001/10 dont doubt yourself kid.)

Battle Squares is a compact but energetic arena shooter that embraces simplicity as its core identity, offering fast-paced chaos over deep systems or long-term progression. At its heart, it is a game about quick reflexes, unpredictable interactions, and the joy of watching geometric characters blast each other across compact 2D stages. Its premise is deliberately minimalistic — you control a customizable square, arm yourself with a chosen weapon loadout, and dive into a match where movement, shooting, and bouncing physics rule the moment. This intentional reduction of form and detail allows the game to focus entirely on moment-to-moment action, creating an experience that is easy to pick up, instantly readable, and intentionally frantic. The customization layer gives players a surprising amount of personality despite the abstract visuals. Choosing colors, weapons, and loadouts provides a sense of ownership over your little square combatant, and the options available help shape different identities within the arena. Whether you prefer high-explosive mayhem, sniper-like precision, rapid-fire aggression, or close-quarters brawling, the game gives just enough tools to stitch together a recognizable playstyle. Because each weapon type has its own recoil patterns, projectile behaviors, and strategic quirks, switching loadouts can dramatically change how each match feels. This ensures that even with a minimalist aesthetic, Battles Squares avoids drifting into sameness too quickly, especially for players who like experimenting with different setups. In the actual arenas, matches often feel like controlled chaos. Bullets ricochet, squares bounce unpredictably off walls, and the fast movement system means it’s rare for any encounter to last more than a blink. This unpredictability is part of the charm: no matter how skilled you are, there’s always a chance that a stray shot, environmental rebound, or unlucky angle will turn the tide. The game leans heavily into this playful instability, embracing the idea that a match's outcome is as much about improvisation as it is about precision. It is a title designed for quick laughs, surprising reversals, and the kinetic thrill of unpredictable encounters, making it ideal for spontaneous multiplayer sessions rather than meticulous competitive climbing. The presentation reflects this philosophy. The visuals are bright, blocky, and clean, keeping the screen uncluttered and the action readable at all times. There are no elaborate backgrounds or detailed character models; instead, the world is painted with bold colors and sharp lines, keeping the player’s focus entirely on the action. It is an approach that prioritizes smooth performance and clarity over spectacle, ensuring the game runs well even on low-end hardware. The minimalistic audio design complements this — satisfying pops, blasts, and ricochets amplify the action without overwhelming it. This stripped-down aesthetic may strike some players as too plain, but it suits the game’s arcade-like energy. However, the very factors that make Battle Squares fun in short bursts can also limit its long-term appeal. With no significant progression systems, campaign, unlock trees, or evolving mechanics, the experience remains largely static once you’ve played a handful of matches. There are no dramatic power curves or layered systems to learn, meaning that mastery arrives quickly and repetition sets in just as fast. Additionally, because the game depends heavily on active multiplayer engagement, the player population has a major impact on its playability. Slow matchmaking, empty lobbies, or unbalanced games can diminish the excitement, and without bots robust enough to consistently simulate competition, solo players may find the game’s appeal limited. In the end, Battle Squares is best viewed as a compact, impulsive, and joyfully chaotic experience rather than a game built for depth or longevity. It excels when approached with a casual, fun-first mindset — something to launch for quick, energetic matches or small group play, especially with friends who enjoy mayhem over mastery. It does not compete with feature-rich shooters or strategic arena games, nor does it attempt to. Instead, it delivers a simple, colorful arena where unpredictability is part of the fun, and where even a geometric shape can become a memorable little avatar of destruction. For players seeking a brief, lively distraction built around reflexes and randomness, Battle Squares delivers exactly the kind of lightweight entertainment it aims for. Rating: 7/10

This is a great party game to play with friends on a chill night
In fact, the game is very cool. Unusual management, simple style and a small load on the device is what makes the game great. Most of all, I would like to see the possibility of modding in the game, as well as more players in 1 lobby and new modes. I wish the game good luck and recommend it to everyone
