I received this game for free but I can't recommend it for an expensive 20 euro. The sale price is still far too high compared to the quality and content the game offers. Developers promising additional campaigns. If it ever happens then I might review my recommendation. If you a visual type here is a video about the features of the game: https://youtu.be/dAQJuqPp16M Battle Fleet: Ground Assault is a turn-based strategy game. I know that most players don't like a wall of texts, so I try to make my reasons to shorter but easy to understand sentences. CONS: -Outdated graphics for a game released in 2018 and with a price tag of 20eur. -Only one campaign. Too few provinces which result in the short completion of the game. -Strategy games usually have high replay value. My opinion is that this game is an exception. -Multiplayer is dead. Hot Seat mode is unplayable for local coop as the turns not divided for factions, its divided to units. It means that after a US tank the next could be an Axis tank, then again a US tank. It would require way too many player changes while they can see each other locations because of the frequent player change. -Unrealistic strategy game. Tanks or Panzers vulnerable without the support of infantries. Additionally, this war cant simplified only to tank vs tank battles. Germans had much better panzers, but the war was decided by the air force. -Weak AI, it never uses the explosive ammo for collateral damage. -The game could be called only as a casual strategy game. ¶▅c●▄███████||▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅▅||█~ ::~ :~ :► ▄██ ▲ █ █ ██▅▄▃▂ ███▲ ▲ █ █ ███████ ███████████████████████► ◥☼▲⊙▲⊙▲⊙▲⊙▲⊙▲⊙▲⊙☼◤ Pros: -Custom battle available if you want some tank vs tank gunnery action -buildings, trees could be destroyed -sound effects during battles are great. -ammo or loot boxes can be found during battles. Each of these reward one useable card to enhance your offensive or defensive tactic. Hey, I am an achievement hunter! The achievements in this game require you to kill units. Nothing hard about, it just takes time. However, if you want to get it done as fast as possible here are some instructions: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1659958852 This review was created for Average Achievement Hunter curator Follow my curator if you like to see achievement related information (completion time, difficulty to get all achievements) on store page of the games. https://store.steampowered.com/curator/30168383-Average-Achievement-Hunter/ The curator group doesn't mark any game as recommended so it shows useful information about achievements on the store page of the games without influencing the main store page of steam with recommendations + all games sorted to lists based on expected completion times. No point not to follow!:-)
I prefer playing against the Computer in strategy games and after very good experience with the Naval Battles I decided to try out the Land based tank battles. I was not disappointed. I regularly get my backside kicked by the Axis in combat. One has to remember that they were masters of this form of warfare for a long time and their armaments were significantly more effective. So expect to get outmanouvred and out gunned regularly. That is the way it was. Only caveat would be that I would love an upgrade bringing in the Russian Front with the Soviet equipment. This would be a cherry on the cake.
BFGA is not a simulation of actual units. The only real factors are the appearance and the location of guns on a unit eg. dual turret tanks have the firing point in different spots for each turret. What is somewhat generic is the actual guns on each tank. THey don't appear to really simulate actual gun variations, but rather light/medium/heavy variations (with range and penetration varying by gun type). So if you approach it as a non-historical tactical battle, you will be pleasantly satisfied. It looks great, and plays well. Using proper tank tactics is strongly encouraged by the fact that if you don't use them, you will be decimated. Cover is important, and line of sight management is vital. If you can't see it, odds are you can't hit it... The AI is competant at the tactical level and uses terain (and cards) well. Cards give things such as instant repair of tread damage, recon flights, air strikes, minefields or even extra range circles for one of your units. At the campaign level, the AI is weaker and seems to be less aggressive - but this might be just because I have tried playing the Allied forces with the AI being the defensive Axis forces. IT might be more aggressive as the Allies. Combat invloves moving and shooting your units. Watch the videos to see how movement works, shooting is set angle (direction) of shot, select shot type (AP or HE), and set range and then fire. Most units get 2 shots per turn, light guns get 3 and heavy artillery gets 2 shots, but must spend 1 turn reloading. terrain can block a shot - hills will absorb the shot, buildings and trees can be destroyed, possibly clearing the line of sight for a second shot. Overall, while not historically accurate, it is a lot of fun to play. Tactics matter, and ignore terrain at your own peril.
I'm really enjoying Battle Fleet: Ground Assault. So far I'm just playing the single player campaign and random maps and haven't tried multiplayer yet but it looks cool. I love the destroyable buildings and objects, it adds a new element that provides for new strategies and options and just looks awesome. Having height on the maps so you can take cover behind terrain adds a lot of depth to each battle. The game has a nice balance of simplicity of movement and firing while still having lots of strategy options. If I could change the UI I'd maybe combine the move and direction placement steps into one step for more fluid gameplay. Really enjoying the game, keep up the great work!
Maybe worth five bucks, definitely not worth the twenty, here's why; CONS -Graphics from like 2007 -Unbalanced campaign -Not historically accurate -Already dead multiplayer, lucky to catch three people online -AI is either braindead or aimbotted PROS -Fun blend of strategy and action, unique -Good for fans of Axis and Allies board games (as that's almost exactly what it is) -Pretty good selection of units Honestly I would wait for a sale that puts this price way down, as these cons outweigh the pros. Battle fleet two I would reccomend 10x more.
I haven't been playing Battle Fleet: Ground Assault for long but so far it's been fun! I'm new to the series and so the various options and depth of play actually surprised me as I was expecting even more simple turn-based action. To be fair, it is a relatively straightforward game but that's also part of the charm. BF:GA is a light turn-based tactical strategy game and not an arcade shooter nor is it a super realistic sim. I do like how the terrain adds another layer of complexity, and how cover can be degraded. I still have to look more into the card system in the game though. Overall a thumbs-up and I'm looking forward to spending more time playing it!
Another great turn based strategy game in VR. We need more turn-based combat games in virtual reality and this scratches the itch.
Simple accurate historically and fun to play good AI
I caught myself "Just One More Turn"ing the game pretty soon after booting it up. Combat was pretty engaging, there were a lot of strategic opportunities as the stages went on. I haven't given the multiplayer a shot, but I would imagine combat vs players would be a lot more rewarding, especially on maps where you can use the fog of war and the varying terrain heights to your advantage while the CPU could work around those limits pretty easily.
Great game but I wish they would add Russia tanks and new maps.
