It's a fairly unique concept that feels well executed, but it's also tough as nails. If I'm being perfectly honest, I found shooting to move (Baseless' core gimmick) a very unintuitive process during the opening hours of the game. Any time I opened fire on baddies, I'd go flying in the opposite direction which put me completely out of range to do anything to them. However, once I got my head wrapped around the particulars of Baseless' core gimmick, I started to have a lot more fun with it. You're able to bounce around every level causing waves of destruction, all while looking cool as heck. This is also a solo developed project, and I think that ought to be celebrated. Doubly so given the current climate of both the game's industry and just...everything. I don't know that it'll be for everyone, but Baseless is another of 2025’s myriad interesting indie offerings, and that should be reason enough to give it a look. Baseless is unlike any game I've ever played - I was immediately invested in mastering the unique moving mechanics while simultaneously enjoying the music, art, and storyline. I feel like the difficulty level is challenging enough to want me to keep grinding without any rage-quit emotions. Highly recommend!
A genuinely cozy and engaging experience. I love games that let you help villagers, build friendships, and take on optional side quests alongside the main storyline. The village feels warm and alive, packed with activities, also fishing!! and so many unlockable areas I’m still excited to discover. Each mission introduces new abilities and skill, keeping the sense of every mission somthing new, mainly motivated mission, rescure like. It’s the kind of game that makes you feel responsible for the community and happy to dive back in. I can already see myself spending multiple weekends here, just enjoying everything it has to offer.
I've been following this developer for awhile and couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. It's got the amazing gamefeel I've come to expect, but way more depth than anticipated. Progression, modifiers, lots of variety in environments and encounters, and cute cast of characters + story as the cherry on top. The difficulty is challenging enough (as you'd expect in this genre) but never too frustrating. If you take advantage of the earned enhancements and pay attention to what's being thrown at you, you'll be rewarded. Looking forward to watching the speed runners tho (cause that ain't me! >D ). Definitely pick this one up, worth every penny.
So I’ve just started playing, and I’m already obsessed. One lone developer created the whole thing! One human. Not a studio. Not a team. Just some wizard who apparently has 48 hours in a day. The main mechanic took me a minute to figure out, but once it clicked, I started feeling like an absolute menace. Every win feels like I should receive a small trophy.
This is a game you're going to keep coming back to. Each time I play I find a new route, a new combo, or I just get better at something that was confounding me before. It rewards practice and it's silly and fun. It is hard, really hard. But it never feels like you were unjustly killed or hurt. It is very clear what mistake you made and how to get better. You can always jump into a 20 min session just to get something real quick. It feels like Hades, Cult of the Lamb, Domekeeper, etc in that way. Something I can quickly get a good session in and then either dive deeper or get out. It is worth the money, isn't early access, and will be something you play forever. Get it.
Baseless is a completely unique game on Steam, from mechanics to art style. Let start with the art: The colours are gorgeous and really pop, especially on an OLED screen. The character designs are something else -- whimsical, funny, something we've never seen before. I absolutely love them. The dialogue is also well written and very funny! I didn't expect to get drawn into the story on a arcade-style shooter, but Baseless delivers. Now for the mechanics. Using your weapon to propel yourself around levels is tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, the game really shines. You get new weapons and power ups nearly every level, so there's always something to keep things fresh. Finally, the hub world is super cool with tons of unlockables, mini-games, and even secrets to discover. I love how it fills up with characters as you meet and save them. Baseless should be in every arcade shooter fan's library, the joy that shines through this game will make you smile. I can't believe this was made by just one person down to even the music. Outstanding!
I’ve been patiently waiting for Baseless for a long while now and it does not disappoint! The music is phenomenal, the characters are adorable, and the story has me hooked! AND it all came from one dev! I’m beyond excited to finish my first play through and start working on breaking my high scores. The movement and skills can be a little confusing (even downright frustrating) at first, but when it clicks in your brain you feel like John Baseless. The synergy between skills and movement raise the possibilities for speed running to a whole new level. I’m beyond stoked to see what kind of runs can be achieved when I really get into the groove. Definitely pick this up if you’re a fan of bullet hells and platformers. The unique gravity system really flips the whole style on its side. (no pun intended) I’m excited to see more from Fermenter and really hope they add little bits a bobs like they did in spingun.
Fun, creative, and challenging game! The unique movement mechanics can take a little bit to get used to, but they're very rewarding to get the hang of. From the get-go, you have a solid number of movement/weapon options so you can play in a way that fits your style. The art style is vibrant and energetic, and the soundtrack is a banger. Looking forward to seeing what else Baseless has in store!
Harnessing the mechanics in Baseless takes some practice but once it *clicks* its fluid and endlessly fun. There's a wide choice of weapons unlocked as you play and creative melee choices that keep every level fresh and engaging. The soundtrack is full of absolute bangers, the characters throughout are charming and interesting, and the progression of the story kept me on the edge of my seat. Highly recommend if you're looking for a unique indie to dig your teeth into.
