Gnomes are Evil
This is as hard as my ♥♥♥♥, and i love good ♥♥♥♥. Okay, that didn't come out quite the way I originally intended.
It has a high skill FLOOR. Which is fine, but the tutorial is deliberately hostile towards the player. No checkpoints before trial by fires or intentional instant deaths which are meant to serve as learning moments. Upon dying in a tutorial trial you need to redo the whole trial from the start. You see, the game is gatekeepy and inaccessible about it; as a result, it feels like the game doesn't WANT you to even play the tutorial, much less a real dungeon, unless the player already has a try-hard FPS background in terms of reaction time and on-the-spot thinking. You can't have both a high skill FLOOR and an aggressive tutorial. It's an off-putting level-design attitude to have towards someone who forked you over 20 buckaroos (or had it gifted to them) to play with their friends. I don't even need to be hand-held. I just want to be able to learn the game mechanics without getting smushed and needing to replay the same thing over and over until I get it right. Might as well just not have the tutorial and have new players jump straight into a dungeon. The effect would be the same, and maybe that's the point. "Haha guys, that one whiny test player we hate is still begging for a tutorial. Let's just use the trial system we already have in place to make a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ one." It certainly feels like a gross and spite-filled thing after being gunned down by turrets and thrown back to the start of the magic tutorial level. EDIT: The game is good and very playable with a group of four. It's also easy to pick up most things in a group during real dungeon runs. Still leaving this review as is. The first thing anyone is gonna try to do is the tutorial or solo runs. The game should not have such a bad tutorial or promote solo play (via the trials) to start. Also realized that it says "no handholding" in the description so the aggressive and poorly made tutorial is probably that way out of spite. Very cool. TL:DR; Not a bad game afaik but a has a jerkoff-designed tutorial for no reason which really gets in the way of enjoyment. The first thing you are told to do is go through the tutorial trials. My advice is to only play the tutorial up to the magic level if you have to (or avoid the tutorial altogether) and just play it raw dog. The game will do a better job teaching you that way and you won't get annoyed by a spiteful tutorial that your friends told you to play before joining them. I went ahead and took my own advice can confirm the game is better this way. (Both the walk to cool off and just playing the game w/o tutorial.) BTW comments are OFF to ward off cope and bootlicking. The game already has a Very Positive review rating. The devs are clearly made of tough-ish ♥♥♥♥ if the quit game blurbs are any indication. They don't need your white-knighting. Take your fake-polite justifications and arguments FIRMY up your own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Nice game
Barony is such a fun and adorable adventure game UwU :3 ✨ I really love exploring the dungeons, finding cool items, fighting enemies, and discovering new things every time I play 🌸 The game has a simple style, but it has so much charm and personality that it makes every adventure feel special >w< The pixel art is super cute, and the atmosphere is really unique. You never know what you are going to find next, which makes exploring feel exciting and fun hehe :3 🗡️✨ Every run feels different, and even when you lose, you just want to try again and see what happens next UwU. The gameplay is easy to enjoy, but there is still a lot to learn and discover 💖 Barony is a wonderful mix of adventure, RPG, and dungeon exploration. It is cute, challenging, and full of fun little moments 🌸✨ Definitely recommend it to anyone who loves exploring new worlds and having a good time :3 💕 ⭐ 10/10 UwU
This game is a test in will power to see how many boulders can crush you before you equip an amulet of strangulation
끊기지 않고 세상으로 나온 근사한 똥을 본 느낌이였다 + 바위 씨발;
Good game, I have only played for a little while but I love the idea of the editor and scripts.. and mods?! Sounds like some real good dungeons could be made... Now if I can just get some friends to try it out with me.
