Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is a classic action RPG that takes the familiar Dungeons & Dragons setting in a more immediate, combat-driven direction. Rather than following the slower, party-focused structure traditionally associated with Baldur's Gate, it concentrates on dungeon exploration, real-time battles, equipment, character progression, and cooperative play. The Steam version lists Square One Games Inc. and Black Isle Studios as the developers, with Interplay Entertainment Corp. serving as the publisher. Although its design clearly reflects an earlier generation of action RPGs, its straightforward approach remains surprisingly entertaining for players who enjoy old-school dungeon crawlers. The adventure places players in the dangerous world surrounding Baldur's Gate, where sinister forces gradually turn what initially seems like a comparatively ordinary journey into a much greater conflict. The narrative provides enough mystery and fantasy intrigue to keep the campaign moving, but storytelling is not the primary attraction. Dark Alliance is much more interested in sending players into hostile environments packed with monsters, traps, puzzles, treasure, and new equipment. Its interpretation of Dungeons & Dragons incorporates elements of the 3rd Edition rules while adapting them into a format designed around fast, accessible action rather than detailed tabletop-style simulation. Three customizable playable characters provide the foundation for character development. Each has distinctive abilities, powers, and visual characteristics, encouraging different approaches to combat. Progression gradually strengthens these characters and allows their abilities to develop as the campaign becomes more demanding. The selection is small compared with modern RPGs containing dozens of classes and elaborate skill systems, but this simplicity works in the game's favor. It is easy to understand what each character is designed to accomplish, and choosing another hero on a later playthrough provides a meaningful reason to experience the adventure again. Combat is the heart of Dark Alliance. Melee weapons, ranged attacks, and destructive spells give players several ways to deal with enemies, while positioning and resource management become increasingly important against larger groups and stronger creatures. The mechanics are considerably simpler than those found in contemporary action RPGs, and certain encounters can become repetitive when the most effective solution is repeatedly using the same attacks. Even so, there is something satisfying about the uncomplicated rhythm of entering a dungeon, eliminating enemies, searching for valuables, upgrading equipment, and continuing deeper into dangerous territory. The game wastes relatively little time before returning the player to its central action loop. Exploration complements the fighting effectively. Environments contain intricate passages, environmental dangers, puzzles, enemies, and opportunities to discover useful rewards. The isometric perspective gives the game a recognizable dungeon-crawler appearance and makes encounters easy to follow. While its environments cannot match the scale or interactivity expected from modern open-world RPGs, their more confined structure creates a focused sense of progression. Moving from one hostile location to another constantly reinforces the feeling of advancing through a dangerous fantasy adventure rather than wandering through oversized areas simply for the sake of scale. Magic also contributes considerably to the presentation. The game's explosive spell effects were designed to make magical characters feel powerful, and they remain visually satisfying despite the obvious age of the underlying technology. Creature designs and environments similarly show their age when compared directly with current games, but the overall art direction still communicates a convincing dark fantasy atmosphere. The presentation is strengthened by its sound design, including real-time sound mixing, voice performances, Dolby Surround support, and an original soundtrack composed by Jeremy Soule. The music in particular helps give otherwise straightforward dungeon exploration a more adventurous and dramatic personality. Two-player cooperative play is one of the game's strongest features. Players can tackle the campaign together through shared or split-screen cooperative play, while the Steam edition also supports Remote Play Together. The relatively uncomplicated combat mechanics are especially appropriate for cooperation because another player can join without needing to study an enormous collection of interconnected systems. Fighting enemies, searching areas, developing characters, and overcoming tougher encounters with another person often makes the campaign more enjoyable. Single-player remains perfectly functional, but cooperation gives Dark Alliance an additional layer of charm that distinguishes it from many solitary RPG adventures. Replayability is further supported by the ability to return with another customized character and by Extreme mode, which dramatically increases the challenge. Playing with a different character can alter the feel of combat because abilities and strengths encourage another style of engagement. Extreme mode is aimed more directly at experienced players who have already become comfortable with enemy behavior and character progression. These features cannot completely disguise the campaign's fundamentally linear structure, but they provide legitimate incentives to return after completing the story. The game's most noticeable shortcomings come from its age. Combat lacks some of the responsiveness and variety expected from newer action RPGs, character customization is relatively modest, and environmental design can occasionally feel restrictive. Players expecting the enormous narrative freedom and complex party interactions associated with the main Baldur's Gate games may also be surprised by how different Dark Alliance actually is. This is fundamentally a hack-and-slash dungeon crawler wearing the clothing of a Dungeons & Dragons adventure, and it is best approached with that distinction clearly understood. Despite those limitations, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance succeeds because it understands the appeal of uncomplicated action RPG progression. Fighting monsters, finding better equipment, strengthening a character, experimenting with abilities, and advancing through increasingly dangerous locations creates a dependable and enjoyable gameplay cycle. Cooperative play makes that formula even stronger, while the fantasy atmosphere and memorable soundtrack give the adventure an identity beyond its mechanics. Square One Games Inc. and Black Isle Studios' Steam release preserves an accessible action RPG that remains worthwhile for fans of traditional dungeon crawling, while Interplay Entertainment Corp. brings the experience to a modern PC audience. It may feel dated beside newer representatives of the genre, but its focused design and cooperative strengths still hold considerable appeal. Rating: 8/10

Played this game extensively both solo and in co op as a child on the PS2 and I hold many fond memories of this game. The port to PC seemed to play just fine and I ran into no major issues. That being said this is a very old hack and slash game. It is doubtful to blow anyone away who has never played it before especially compared to modern day standards but if you can get this on a good sale or if you just want a trip down memory lane this is a fun one to go through.

Un clasico action rpg. Esta bastante guapo y es un acercamiento diferente al mundo de Baldurs gate. Eso si, por ponerlo en descuento de vez en cuando tampoco pasa nada, hijos de puta. 7/10.

dobrý
A reasonably good port of the classic game that was released to console, BG:DA remains a well made game, with the port ensuring its up-to-date for use on more modern systems. My only criticism is a lack of achievements to make this replayable beyond trying to do the game with each playable character.
It didn't wow me, but it's a solid/enjoyable action RPG.
Its a classic :D
5/10 -1 zu hoher Preis -1 Loot ist Wertlos / nur Shop Items sind wirklich gut (bis auf Ausnahmen) -1 Gameplay -1 schwache Story -1 nachlassende zweite Hälfte
