First of all, this really seems to be an HD reskin of "A Game About Digging A Hole" Most of the mechanics are the same, but they changed around little bits here and there, like copying a wikipedia article and using a thesaurus to change some words so it doesn't show up in a plagiarism tracker. At first I did like it better, I will admit. It's easier to progress in the beginning, it feels like you are getting through the dirt faster because you start by removing huge chunks, and the ores are worth a lot more and easier to find. Then the progress grinds to a halt. First, the drone that takes you to the surface barely gets any more powerful, which quickly becomes a slog when you are getting into 100+m territory. Second, the pickaxe upgrade is "speed" but the speed is barely different from the lowest to the highest upgrade, and third the BATTERY. Your [strike]battery[/strike] stamina does increase, but nowhere near to the level you need it to. Most of the game is flying back to the surface to buy more energy or dying at the bottom of the hole and losing all your ores because you were "too tired." Most of the time, you aren't filling your inventory before you have to head back up to charge. In AGADAH, I could fill my inventory many times before I would have to head up and recharge. Also, the "low battery" message is far too subtle. It flashes at the very bottom right of the screen and, at the highest battery level, you go from the warning message to dead in 3-5 rocks. I died so so many times before I just gave up and only flew up when I had ore to sell. It was just easier to die of exhaustion than to pay attention and fly up all the time. The game has some interesting stuff, like the artifacts, fossils, and the random crystals you find, but it's not worth it in my opinion. Plus the end is annoying, difficult, and too easy all at the same time, somehow. And when you beat the game, your save is ERASED, so you can't keep exploring and building your hole! I only played this many hours to 100% the game, because by the time I realized that it was going to be a slog I had already gotten an achievement. I won't play again, and I don't know if I can recommend that you do. Even outside the plagiarism, it's just a long and slow and annoying game with a bizarre ending that deletes your progress when you're done. Not worth it.
Among the best digging games for sure. At first I was a little unsure about it, but after playing it a bit I was hooked.
Game has no y-axis mouse invert option.
Backyard Digger gets right to the point. You see an X on the ground in your back yard and start digging. Once you find the first bauble you're hooked. You dig to find ores and treasures to sell for money so that you can upgrade your gear, and dig for more ores and treasures! Energy drinks ensure you can stay awake indefinitely and work toward your next find. I would write more, but my detector is blinking and I need to dig.
I started thinking this game was a fun and chill digging game like many others but after playing for a couple hours I can't recommend this. So, the good: - Like the drone ability doesn't use energy as it makes it fun to get in and out of the hole - The chunk based digging started fun and is a interesting twist on the idea especially with some gravity included. - Like that there are veins of minerals That's it for good. So, bad: - Health - just why... The glitchy nature of the gravity dropping rocks ends in random sudden deaths and loss of everything you find. I died randomly from a single small rock rolling based my ankle and it just killed any enjoyment I had in this game. - PLEASE ADD NUMBERS TO THE STAMINA BAR - it is so hard to judge low energy as the bar can still have green in it and you will just die... - The levelling system feels odd - The pickaxe upgrades felt pointless, or at least I noticed nothing different until I got a drill then suddenly my range felt huge. - Random environmental death - suddenly getting insta-killed after finding a secret IS NOT FUN. It is just disheartening especially if you have a full bag... Overall, there is a great game potential here but it needs work. Remove health or give us a way to increase health. Give us supports we can build to stop random rock deaths. Give clear guidance on level-ups and direction. Others might like this game, and I did at the start, but I just got disheartened and frustrated...
Unfortunately short, but it progresses at a good pace. Super nice relaxing game to play while watching a show, and the particles are super satisfying.
Great digging game, enjoyed more than A Game About Digging A Hole
A game about digging a hole started my addiction to these type of games. I've played alot now and this one was definitely in the worth playing though. That being said, I did experience a game freeze that made me lose some digging progress. Plus, somewhere I lost the key from my inventory and never found it or 1 dinosaur bone. Dug the whole hole. Now gotta restart to complete the last two achievements. FYI This does work fine on the steamdeck. You just have to lower the graphics and video quality down
Brilliant game! played 32 hours! Ending is cool!
