Backyard Basebasll 2026 is a lot more easy and fun to play than the original while still having the same charm that the 1997 game had.
It's good old fashioned fun and better than I remembered the GameCube version.
game is fun but the players will do nothing when the ball is hit to them sometimes. the game will auto assign you to a player in the field and half the time in the outfield it uses the wrong character ie uses a further away player. Stealing second base is quite difficult for the player as the AI have to throw a shorter distnace to catch you verse when they steal 2nd you have to throw the full distance. When trying to catch ai stealing 2nd base the catch typically drop the ball! actually so dumb that the catcher doesnt catch the ball and its just on the ground in front of him. the achievements wont be given when you complete them sometimes aswell. game constantly plays the same voice lines over and over "Annoying song! Annoying song! Annoying song! Annoying song! " over we want a pitch not a belly itcher is so dumb. there is no forfeit mechanic so you can be up by 50 runs and still have to keep playing that game. many players have 7/10 pitching rating but throw the ball slowly like sally D. many players have 7/10 hitting but have a 0/10 batting skill reticle at the plate like sally D. Tagging up after a fly ball is caught is nearly impossible and knowing you tagged up is not obvious or indicated. the free play games give you 0 card shop tokens so they are a waste of time. pick up games give you no tokens so they are a waste of time. create a player might aswell be hidden and i didnt notice the feature until my third round of league play. Power up pitches that are performed as a perfect pitch by a 10/10 or 7/10 pitcher can be hit for homeruns by the ai.
It is really fun and brings you back into the old days.
It's pretty fun and they definitely are leaning hard into the nostalgic factor- but there are a lot of bugs, and it really seems like the character stats don't hold much weight. It's a good arcade baseball game though if you don't intend to take it super seriously.
Really really fun game. Enjoyed getting reintroduced to the old character I played from the original Backyard Baseball. The graphics and the soundtrack really brings me back! > Overall fun game > Has tons of replay value > Preserved the charm of the original characters > Has a few bugs here and there, but that is to be expected from a newly released title
