I had the ultimate pleasure of playing this game and I wasn't disappointed! This is a retro blast of awesome writing and epic gameplay, funny story moments and engaging characters. I love the 8 bit style games, like Battletoads, Golden Axe and Streets of Rage and this game brings a modern game style to retro playability. I made a video of me trying to conquer the 8 bit world, feel free to check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Alcz6Yd6t0
Apesar da cara de retro, Axe, Bow and Staff traz uma nova dinâmica para os jogos de RPG de ação. Leia a crítica toda aqui: http://wp.me/p7OaCf-DY
A simple game that gets better the more you play it. For maximum enjoyment, get some friends to join. This thing was made for co-op!
某夜看到更新key,激活了一个,体验了下,很有意思的休闲游戏,现在更新也挺频繁的,支持下。
I also covered this game on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRLxYq8jxcU Axe, Bow & Staff comes from a small team who used to make mobile and social games and while you can certainly see those inspirations all over it, don't be put off by it. This game has some design and technical flaws but it's got some cool ideas and can be a lot of fun, especially with friends. The core mechanics are a combination of a level-based runner game and a light RPG. You have 3 characters who specialise in melee (Axe), range (Bow) and teleporting enemies out of the way (Staff.) Each have additional traversal abilities and in single player, you have to juggle between them in order to get through the levels, which get pretty tough pretty fast. In multiplayer, you can have up to two other human players control the different classes exclusively. If you're playing alone, any players you aren't controlling at that moment will be managed by the AI, which can sometimes hold its own pretty well and other times, it dumb as a rock and will get itself wrecked in short order. Each level has checkpoints that will fully heal your party and revive any downed companions but if you all go down, you'll start back at that point. You'll have enemies of various types to deal with, as well as environmental hazards you'll have to clear, many of which can only be handled by one class. Every character can take multiple hits but the hazards pile up quick, especially in later levels and will demand quick thinking and reflexes. You can bring up to three recovery items with you that you can trigger at any time during a level and these will become vital later on. In between each level, there's a shop where you can buy and sell additional recovery items and upgrade your weapons, which you'll have to do frequently. Your characters also have a skill tree that unlocks additional tiers at certain level points and you can respec at any time. While you can definitely beat Axe, Bow & Staff by yourself, multiplayer is clearly what this game was made for. If playing locally, you can divide players between the keyboard and multiple game pads. You can also play online but it's marked as beta and when researching the game, I only ever got connected to a high ping server in Japan and no one ever joined me. It has a fantastic pixel art style and a great 8-bit soundtrack but there are technical issues. I had some stutters and crashes and many of the sound effects are overmixed, drowning out the music and clipping unexpectedly, which is particularly bad if you're wearing headphones. I enjoyed Axe, Bow & Staff but unless you want a steep challenge, I'd only recommend this if you have a local group to play with. It also has frustrating technical glitches but nothing that couldn't be fixed with small updates that I hope are coming. It's a unique blending of genres and a good time with the right group.
Leider weiss man nie so recht was das alles soll. der wechsel mit den figuren läuft nicht richtig. die ki-gelenkten figuren machen murks. die grundidee ist ok , im verlauf aber irgendwie nervig.
A fantastic, surprisingly lengthy game (7 hours to defeat final level), evocative of classic retro games in a way no other game has quite managed to capture for me personally. Co-op is more or less a neccessity, however. Frequently glitchy, however they never fail to be interesting or hilarious, almost as if they were left in intentionally. Pretty easily one of the best co-op experiences available on Steam, and definitely deserving of a lot more recognition.
