I really like this game. I honestly am not much for pvp but with it being turn based I can even keep up. The community is small atm but hope to see it grow. It is easy to learn the game but hard to master. I have heard there is mention of a pve verison of this game in the works I can't wait to see. I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys a challenge even if you aren't that big into pvp games like I am not.
I met the good folks of AvariaVS at PlayNYC and we had a pretty good talk about the game, it's inspiration from Final Fantasy and the potential this game can have a serious competitive platform. WE just need more people to play it. Gameplay: There's 4 class types, 2 variants and 16 characters that are assembled in a three party team. You start out with 5 balanced teams and the ability to set up two custom groups for your own experimentation. I've played the Tactician + Warlock teams often as they accentuate my playstyle of good early and late game setups. The other groups are great too if you are into late game punishes, strategies involving massive buffs and/or insane early game damage. Because of the time constraints placed on you, it challenges your split-second decision making, knowledge of the character types and craftiness to out-wit your opponent and deliver the KILL. As such, the rush I had felt from watching others play, to finally playing it myself was immense and hasn't waned. It's only gotten stronger. Online: Unfortunately, the online isn't always active due to the lack of players that know about this game. I'm part of a discord that has a good group of active players so we can get matches in. But we need more of us to talk about this game, we need steam to promote this game so that the cross-pollination of hyper competitive gamers from all game types can give this a shot and see its potential as an amazing staple in esports for years to come.

After more than 20 hours in this game, I am certaintly addicted and in love with what AvariaVS has to offer. This is for sure in the likes of what we haven't seen much of before! The designs of the character, game, and music choice are excellent factors that contribute to the aesthetics of this game. In this regard, great job from the Game Designers. The battle system has perfect timing: not too quick or too long before making choices. The interface and options on and off battle set each player up to develop and perfect their unique strategies. Despite having only 16 heroes, the party combinations are endless, which makes this game playable for long sessions! I really love the intensity of matchmaking and how it forces you to always recreate and polish your strategy every single turn. Being the first turn-based pvp of its kind, this game has HUGE potential to grow in the future and I cant wait to see where this incredible team behind the community can take it!
I backed this game via Kickstarter, enough for a copy for a friend, both of us had lots of fun playing it. He took to it like a sponge in water, very unique gameplay. If you like strategy games while also PVP with party mechanics, you'll be able to see that this is the game for you.

Follow The Cpt Froggy Club Curator Page for plenty more!
On the main menu screen there’s Online; Battle via the internet, Local; Fight players in Split Screen or Bots locally. Settings, Quit Game, Learn to Play and View Credits. Selecting to play online will take you to your Profile Dashboard, here you’ll find your name, rank and experience points. There are also four tabs, Play; here’s where you’ll go for an online game either in Matchmaking to play against other people around the world, while earning experience points to climb the leaderboard. If you don’t fancy playing for ranks there’s Private Match, you can still play against other players, but you’ll not play for ranks and you won’t gain any experience points. Stats; In here are your stats, Matches Played, Turns Taken, Total Wins, Betrayals, Kills, Damage Dealt etcetera. Leaderboards; Here there are two leaderboards both detailing Rank, Player, Rating and Wins. The two leaderboards are Global and Tournament with both display the top fifteen players. Account; here you change the appearance for your avatar nameplate, you only have the choice of two to start with but you’re able to unlock quite a few more through matchmaking. After choosing the type of game you want to play, you’ll need to decide on which of the six team to play with. The teams are Tactician, Berserker, Mender, Guardian, Warlock and Sentinel. There are also two custom slots for you to create your own teams. There are four class types to choose from Enoni, Servo, Mage and Mana Soldier and each type has four characters. Selecting the first slot will give you the option of all four types, once chosen you’ll select the character you want. Each character will have some details on their class, stats and abilities to help you make that decision. After which you’ll have your final option to make, this is the Archetype you will have the choice of two options here, each different for each class. Once you’ve selected your first character, you’ll go back to selecting the next, only this time you’ll only have the choice of three class types to choose from. After your second choice is made, you’ll then only have two options left to choose from. Once one class type has been selected it gets removed from the list of options, this is so you can’t have the same class multiple times. After you’ve chosen your team and game types, you’ll be exported to the battlefield. Here you’ll be facing from left to right with your opponent's facing you. Details on both teams’ characters can be found above each team, these include things like your health, strengths and which characters move it is currently. In the bottom left corner, you’ll find your ability options, you have three choices and a fourth for a secondary menu with a couple more options. At the start of a round you’ll select the attack or defensive options of your choice while also selecting your target. Your opponent will also select their options at the same time as you, once you’ve finished your selection then the battle will commence automatically for that turn. You will continue to battle until all three characters are killed on one of the two teams. While you fight, you may get some upgrades, when this happens you can select one of your abilities and increase its level and power. You’ll find plenty of option in the Settings, Language; choice of English, French, German, Brazilian, Russian, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Spanish, Korean and Thai. . Audio; Volume controls from zero to ten for Master, Music and Sound Effects. Resolution and Graphics; Refresh Rate, Display Mode, V-Sync, Target Framerate, Anti-Aliasing, Texture and Shadow Resolution, Ambient Quality, Lighting, Depth of Field and Bloom quality, Post Processing and Lens Flare. Apply Settings and Restore Defaults can also be found here, to the right side of the settings you’ll find an image of an Xbox controller which shows you what each button does in game. I quite like the game although sadly I’ve found it hard to find players online or I’ve had an error which then stops me from connecting to the online game. The error doesn’t happen all the time, but I’ve had it happen quite a few times, hopefully this and the low player count will be better in the future. I’ve been limited to playing the bots, I’ve still enjoyed playing with each of the teams and making my own custom team. With the low player count I think the game would benefit from some sort of single player campaign or a best of three/five matches with difficulty settings when playing with bots instead of just playing one match which is over too quickly. I will say that if you’re unsure on whether to get this game, to keep an eye on the player count and maybe get it while it’s on sale. Positives + Nice graphics + Detailed profile stats + Enjoyable game Negatives - Error connecting to online a few times - Hard to find players - No achievements - No cards Select your team, upgrade your characters attacks and buffs and destroy all those who stand in your way. 6/10
Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes via THE CPT FROGGY CLUB! Haven't played much, but so far am really enjoying this. I'm not much of a pvp fan either, but the turn based aspect of it called out to my inner rpg fan. Definitely give this game a try if you like rpgs, strategies, or pvp.
Saw this game go from demo to polished release, and it's been awesome. The twist on regular turn-based JRPG combat is fun and intuitive, and the character models look great. Half the game is building and fine-tuning your party, which is what I loved most about Final Fantasy.
Fun mix of RPG combat and fighting game strategy. Moves quickly but allows for a thoughtful fighting experience. Would recommend for fans of FF style combat.
