About
Your city is under attack by "you know who." Bombs are flying by the thousands. The forecast predicts very hot, dry air for the next minutes before a nuclear winter. Atomic City is a bullet hell with one minute waves. You only need the mouse and a few minutes to get into its frenetic gameplay.
On your doomsday control device (the mouse): Use the left button for left weapon, and right button for right weapon. You can use the middle mouse button to swap equipped weapons.
You start with basic weapons, which have infinite ammo. Adjust your aim; enemies are moving.
Supplies emerge from remains. Let them land to equip them. Weapons will equip the side where they land. Shoot them before landing for gold coins.
New weapons are powerful but have limited ammo, and once depleted, you will fall back on the basic weapons. Keep an eye on your ammo reserve.
Each wave of attack lasts one minute. Survive to access the shop where you can buy new supplies. End the wave without any damage for a gold bonus. Earn at least 999 gold to unlock an emergency drop, but it will cost you all.
Very low friction learning curve. All weapons fire, reload, and transition automatically. You can just play by holding the mouse buttons. The game is designed for ease of play without sacrificing challenge.
You can not beat the game, but you can top the online leaderboard.
Controls: (qwerty)
left weapon : left mouse button or "A"
right weapon : right mouse button or "D"

Please follow United Critics for quality reviews
Atomic City Review

Oppenheimer
If you’ve ever wanted to play the role of humanity’s last hope armed with just a mouse and a dream, Atomic City is calling your name. This fast-paced, mouse-only bullet hell serves up frantic, one-minute waves of survival that somehow feel both exhilarating and soul-crushing. It’s simple to pick up, impossible to put down, and even harder to master.
About This Game

Storyline
The story? It's the apocalypse, and you’re the only thing standing between your city and total annihilation. Bombs, missiles, and hypersonic fighters are raining from the sky, courtesy of “you know who.” Spoiler alert: it’s less about uncovering why this is happening and more about surviving it.
Gameplay Mechanics
The genius of Atomic City lies in its simplicity. You’ve got your trusty mouse—left click for one weapon, right click for the other, and middle click to swap between the limited-use power-ups you collect. Basic weapons have infinite ammo, but don’t expect them to save the day against the escalating chaos. Each wave is a one-minute pressure cooker. Supplies parachute down mid-battle, offering sweet relief in the form of new weapons or health—but there’s a twist. Shoot the supplies before they land for gold, or let them touch down to claim the gear. Either way, you’ll need to multitask, aiming at both enemies and their payloads while managing your ammo. The shop between rounds dangles tantalizing upgrades—lasers, shields, extra lives—but earning enough in-game currency to afford them? That’s a whole different battle. And no, you can’t “beat” the game. The goal is pure survival and leaderboard dominance.
Visuals & Audio
The graphics? They’re simple, but in a charming, nostalgic way that complements the game’s arcade vibe. Explosions are flashy, and the battlefield feels appropriately chaotic. The sound design is top-notch, with satisfying weapon effects and that oh-so-dreadful noise when something hits your city. It all works together to keep your adrenaline pumping.
Pros

Mouse-only controls: Perfect for casual sessions or one-handed gaming snacks.
Quick, intense gameplay: Each wave is a bite-sized chunk of chaos.
Rewarding challenge: You’ll feel like a sharpshooting legend when you nail those hypersonic fighters.
Leaderboards: For bragging rights and crushing defeats.
Great value: It’s a budget-friendly arcade experience.

Cons

Steep difficulty curve: The challenge escalates fast, leaving some players (like me) stuck at like wave three-four.
Shop prices: A bit punishing, making upgrades feel out of reach for less-skilled players.
Settings hiccups: Fullscreen mode resets every time you restart probably because they didn’t bother saving the mode value.
Text readability: The in-game text could use a facelift for clarity.

Conclusion
Atomic City delivers a compact, chaotic arcade shooter that’s as fun as it is unforgiving. Its mouse-only simplicity makes it super accessible, but don’t let that fool you—it’ll test your reflexes and patience in equal measure. While some balancing tweaks (or difficulty settings) would make it more welcoming, the core gameplay is undeniably engaging. If you’re up for a challenge, enjoy nostalgic arcade vibes, and don’t mind losing to hypersonic fighters for the umpteenth time, give Atomic City a shot. Just remember: aim ahead, don’t panic, and maybe pray a little.
Atomic City

Atomic City is a fun little game, but very challenging, and is excellent value for money considering its price tag.
I was expecting Atomic City to play like Missile Command which is surely where the origins of this game were born. It differs quite a lot though and is definitely an upgrade on that experience. Instead of relying on explosions in the air to wipe out bogies and their weapons, this game takes a more direct route and gives us two weapons which we can control with the right and left mouse buttons as we move the cursor around the screen for aiming. Direct hits are needed to destroy enemy fighters and the bombs and missiles that they drop, and aiming slightly ahead of their trajectory is necessary to be successful. If the bombs and missiles hit your city, they will deplete your life and eventually destroy your city. Occasionally, health drops and weapon drops parachute to the ground. At first, I thought I was meant to shoot them. Oops. Let them drop to the ground and they will reward you with weapon upgrades and reset your health. New weapon upgrades do deplete though and then you revert back to your standard issue weapon with unlimited ammo. Each wave brings about harder opponents, who are faster and drop more weapons. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3367154308 I found the game quite challenging and could only get on to wave four before I was inundated with falling death. If you don’t destroy the enemies quickly enough, they will drop bombs, and then your attention is on trying to destroy those bombs, yet whilst you are destroying bombs, more bombs are being dropped because you are not shooting the enemy down. Before you know it, the air is filled with bombs and missiles and you get overwhelmed very quickly. I tried a lot of times and could not get past the hypersonic fighters because as soon as they appear they drop bombs immediately so it is hard to stay on top of things, plus they move faster. There is a shop which you can access in-between each round. Rounds last exactly one minute before your troops come in and clear the area. In the shop you can buy things like upgraded weapons, such as lasers, rockets, cluster bombs, and high damage explosions; shields; health boosts; radars to see in the dark; and extra lives. These upgrades cost money which you earn in game somehow (I wasn’t quite sure) but I never lasted long enough to earn the money needed to buy any upgrades, and although initially I was eager to give the game another go to try and progress, I felt like I was in a rut and just could not progress. Perhaps, the shop items are too expensive and are preventing any further advancement, or some more help is needed like shields which you can use for free. Maybe there could be different difficulty levels to choose from which would cater for all skill levels. Just a thought. The game is perfect for dipping in and out of as sessions only last a few minutes. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3367154065 Your score is recorded on an online leader board and you get to put in a message too alongside your name. Achievements are going to be hard to get because you earn an achievement for finishing a level up to level twenty and the others are for using upgraded weapons. Even though the graphics are quite basic looking they are quite atmospheric with nice explosions and the sound effects are very good.
🍳Conclusion🍳

Atomic City is an entertaining arcade shooter based on Missile Command but with upgraded weapons and game play. The game is very challenging but easy to play with just a mouse and is excellent value for money. If you enjoy a challenge, certainly give it a go. The game is ok, but there are no saves. Starting the game from zero point every time is not fun. P.S. The developer could have made several game modes: - arcade with savings without global results [-not implemented-]; - race without saving with global results [-currently implemented-]; >>>However you can still buy checkpoints with in-game money, as a non permanent save. Isn't buying temporary saves Pay2Win?
Highly recommend - this is my first game play on my YouTube ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmLGk5PXWyc ) and I knew within a couple of minutes this was an absolute keeper and a steal at the price. It reminds me of a combination of Missile Command and Zzoom - this is a good thing - a very good thing. You can't go wrong at the price point that is cheaper than a Tesco's meal deal either. Have fun and save your city !
Protip: Lead your shots, and shoot directly where you expect the enemies to be instead of letting shots fly PAST your target - gotta get them with the air detonation.
A developer gave me a copy of this game yesterday. It's pretty fun to play but I think they need to fix a few issues with saving settings. For example when I change the game to windowed mode, it keeps switching back to fullscreen every time I restart. I enjoy the gameplay but I'm not a fan of the text format, it’s a bit hard to read. Overall this game is good.
Atomic City is a compact but fiercely focused arcade experience developed and published by anthund that distills classic city-defense shooters into a modern, mouse-driven format. From the opening moments, the game makes its priorities clear: immediacy, intensity, and clarity. There is no lengthy tutorial or narrative framing to wade through—your city is under attack, and survival depends entirely on how quickly you can read the screen, prioritize threats, and keep your aim steady as the sky fills with danger. The core loop revolves around defending a vulnerable city from relentless aerial assaults delivered in rapid, minute-long waves. Enemy aircraft streak across the screen, dropping bombs and missiles that must be intercepted before they reach the ground. The elegance of the design lies in its simplicity: left and right mouse buttons control separate weapons, while a quick swap lets you adapt to changing situations on the fly. Basic weapons have unlimited ammunition, encouraging constant engagement, while more powerful tools appear intermittently and demand careful timing to maximize their impact. The result is a rhythm of constant motion and decision-making where hesitation is punished immediately. As waves progress, Atomic City steadily escalates pressure rather than complexity. Enemies move faster, attack from multiple angles, and flood the screen with overlapping threats that force players to triage in real time. Do you eliminate the source by shooting down aircraft, or neutralize the immediate danger by intercepting their payloads? This tension defines every successful run and gives the game its arcade bite. Early moments feel manageable and even empowering, but the difficulty curve ramps quickly, transforming the experience into a test of endurance and composure under sustained chaos. Between waves, the game introduces a light layer of progression through a shop system. Currency earned during defense can be spent on upgrades such as improved weapons, shields, radar enhancements, and other survivability tools. These upgrades don’t radically change the fundamental mechanics, but they do provide subtle advantages that can extend a run and reward skillful play. Progression feels intentionally restrained; rather than allowing players to overpower the challenge through grinding, Atomic City emphasizes mastery of its core mechanics as the primary path to success. This keeps the focus squarely on player skill rather than long-term stat inflation. Visually, the game adopts a clean, functional pixel-art style that prioritizes readability over spectacle. Explosions are bold, projectiles are clearly defined, and enemy silhouettes remain distinct even when the screen is saturated with movement. The city itself serves as a constant visual reminder of what’s at stake, gradually taking damage as threats slip through your defenses. Sound design reinforces this feedback loop with sharp weapon effects and impactful explosions that make every successful interception feel satisfying, while the absence of overly elaborate audio keeps attention fixed on the action. Atomic City’s greatest strength is also its most polarizing feature: its uncompromising difficulty and narrow focus. There are no branching modes, story beats, or alternate objectives to dilute the experience. Success is measured purely by survival time and performance, making the game ideally suited for short, intense sessions and score-chasing play. For players who enjoy classic arcade challenges and the satisfaction of incremental personal improvement, this design is invigorating. For others seeking variety or narrative motivation, the experience may feel repetitive or punishing over longer stretches. Ultimately, Atomic City succeeds by understanding exactly what it wants to be and refusing to overextend beyond that vision. It delivers a tightly designed, high-pressure arcade shooter that values responsiveness, clarity, and skill above all else. While its scope is modest and its structure unforgiving, the game offers a compelling loop of tension and release that makes every successful wave feel earned. For fans of retro-inspired arcade action or players looking for a pure, mouse-driven test of reflexes and focus, Atomic City stands as a sharp, concentrated burst of defensive chaos that rewards persistence and precision. Rating: 7/10
Atomic City is a fast, addictive wave-based shooter that’s easy to pick up and hard to put down. The mouse-only controls feel smooth, the difficulty ramps up perfectly, and surviving each wave is incredibly satisfying. Simple, intense, and fun — exactly what an arcade survival game should be.
