I really did not enjoy the game but the developer is so good at finding and crushing bugs that I don't have the heart to down vote it. I disagree with some design decisions like not being able to research everything and the a.i. players get mad and it seems to turn into a blood feud forever and it costs too much to build ships and then you have to choose between defending or going on the offense. You don't have enough ships to do both and it is frustrating. But the developer and some players may find these same things that i dislike "challenging" so it is a matter of taste.
I have played hundreds of hours of MOO 2, and I have to say I am thoroughly enjoying this take on its style. If you have to have tons of eye candy, this game is probably not for you, but for me the graphics are perfectly fine. This game has a good number of traits like MOO 2 with which to customize your race {and some like creative are handled in a more balanced manner}. This game is far more easily modded than MOO 2 {and if for example you want to create races with a different style of images it is not hard to do, you could even change the art in the premade races if you wanted {although it is more than fine for me}. I liked the fact that there was not only a basic tutorial, but also a series of videos explaining the different aspects of the game. I like the random tech tree. I don't mind the real time combat {one of the biggest flaws in the MOO 2 was that with certain techs, it was way too easy to take advantage of the AI in turn based combat}. The dev is very active and quick to work on any bugs, as well as listening to constructive ideas. I am already having a great time with the game and believe it is only going to get better and better. One thing I would like to see {as someone else has mentioned} is the ability to retrofit. A big thumbs up for me!
Whoa, this game is lame. It reminds me of a Commodore 64 game from the 1980's. I would rather player Master of Orion, the newest one. I should have listened to the bad reviews. Requesting refund, I can't play this primitive, over complicated, simplistic mess. How can it be both? Buy it, try it and find out.
For now I can't recommend the game. It has some unique elements, which makes it interesting, even you have played all other games of this genre. The start is always okay, but with map progress you will find a lot of problems (bugs, logic issues, calculation issues and processing delays etc.). Even in lucky runs without fatal bugs, the delays while interaction with the game interface take all motivation away. If you provide feedback to the developer, you will get support. But there are way too many problems to just enjoy the game. Even after the last patch. If you want to play for fun, don't buy it. If you want to support the developer to make this game the jewel it could be, buy it, but expect a huge amount of time you need to spend.
Frankly, it's not a great game. Sorta mediocre, but taking into consideration it's made by a 1-man studio from Uruguay, it's at least a high-end OK game. It's measurable against a late 90's / early millenium game from Europe with it's very own flair - It's noticable that the one who made it has been inspired by a lot of other game elements. It has awkward elements, like repeating alerts, I've also had achivements fire without me touching those topics. I myself enjoy it first and foremost because the game pacing is slow. A welcome change to the many games where the slowest adjusted setting still runs away with ease. I'd say a bit pricey for the content, by European standards. Picked it up on a sale myself.
That’s actually a pretty good game and could be recommended to MOO fans. Yes, there’re bugs and from that point of view current build resembles 1.0 version of MOO2, but it’s stable and playable till the end. Graphics could be better, but its quality is consistent across the game. UI needs improvement, but there’s really nothing that can’t be fixed in 2-3 patches.
This game offers near endless replayability to enjoy, with many gameplay settings that make each campaign feel like a new experience. The freedoms to build your own battleships and learn to manage them optimally in the battlefield, the different factions with their own stories and mysteries to discover, and the ability to modify and alter the difficulty level to find new challenges, turn this game into a product with too much potential to experience. On the other hand, it calls my attention that many reviews mention that they were disappointed by art and UI. All that stuff could be easily seen before even buying it, it's a matter of checking screenshots, videos or the descriptions that specify that the game is a 'love letter' to old school 4X games. I know that the issue of the 'before 2 hs refund' has changed the way players experience the games, but for this specific case, playing less than 2 hours is just seeing the tip of the iceberg. I highly recommend it to any lover of the 4X genre.
4x games are unusual today (especialy an indie one), so i was happy to hear about this one. If you are a fan of MOO, i definitly recomend you to check it out.
First, I mainly play the Slitherine version. I did not start playing this until the patch 1.03, though I followed intently, its' progress. I can honestly say...this game is getting better & better by the week. I never played MOO II much, but what little I have; it is paling in comparison to Astra Exodus. (imho) A great friend of mine who was an avid MOO II player told me that AE is a much better game in his opinion. I have read where some are not...pleased with all the colors on the Galaxy screen...sorry, I could not disagree more as the effects are quite beautiful. Reminds of some of the photos NASA shows via their filters. (imho) One big plus 'out of the box' is how easy this game is to mod/edit to ones preferences. I have encountered a small number of issues per modding, but the 'dev' has responded in kind & is on top of all issues that players are having, in general. This game is excellent with improvements coming due to a, very, engaged 'dev'. I can recommend this game, absolutely.
A good Masters of Orion 2 clone, even down to the 90s-style graphics. I love MOO2, so this is just what I like. It was a bit buggy on first release, but the developer has been good about quickly patching problems. The best improvement on MOO2 is the real-time ship combat which reminds me of the game Gratuitous Space Battles. It has a battle autoresolve feature if the player wants to skip over the easy battles.
