One of the best assassins creed to date, peak game. Graphics hold up suprisingly well for a 2010 game, and the story and overhaul to combat is amazing.

This entry is an interesting one because at first it feels like a slight iteration compared to the significant jump between AC1 and AC2. But Brotherhood definitely improved on its core foundations and even tries to experiment with new concepts for the series. For improvements, the huge scale of Rome was definitely a technical achievement considering the release date; now you get to traverse one large seamless map instead of loading between smaller maps. It's also a visual step up from the previous game with better textures and lighting. The story is good, as it continues to build on Ezio's story and has a much better antagonist. You also start building the assassins guild by recruiting units to utilize as help or send off on missions. This part is really cool as it starts making you feel the scale of how the assassins are growing. The combat at it's core is mostly the same but there are some new mechanics. This game introduces chain kills, which allows you to link finishers to instantly kill other enemies. This means you can wipe out a group very quickly instead of dueling each of them one by one. There's also a new crossbow weapon that is essentially the quiet version of the hidden gun, making it very powerful. The assassins you recruit can also be called as reinforcements or even a powerful 1-hit KO group attack. These new changes are welcome but could definitely use some refining and balancing so as not to make things too easy. For the missions, this game introduces synchronization rate which is just extra challenges to achieve during missions. The implementation isn't perfect as there are some that are just tedious and too artificial in difficulty. It also makes me feel a bit mixed because you go from having a lot of freedom to approach a mission to having restrictions hanging in front of you. The saving grace is that it's optional and in the end I think it's a good thing overall as the game doesn't have a difficulty setting, so this allows for players to take on harder goals if they want. The things they experimented with have flaws but I appreciate the attempt to mix things up and it makes me excited to see how it potentially evolves in later games. Overall, Brotherhood is a great entry in the franchise.
