DEAD GAME DO NOT BUY THIS !!!!
Wanted "Indie" players; Any disenchanted EVE "carebears" out there looking for a new home, come and give us a try. But be warned Mining and gas huffing need skill in this game. An EVE clone it certainly is not.
To the developer. This game has a lot of potential but there's also a lot room for improvement. Some mechanics are more complex than they need to be. My biggest example is building colonies. Mostly how you do it. When you are building Settlements in the starting systems it goes to an overhead view and makes it pretty easy to see what you're doing. But in a colony you're in your spaceship and you see the colony from the view of your ship and you have to keep moving around to keep the area you want to build in in your view. Why not just have the same system as in the building of inner Settlements? Lots of other systems are needlessly over complicated too. My recommendation would be for you to approach an at least decent-sized developer and show them this. The best thing would be to take all the ideas and mechanics from this game, refine them and come back with a whole new version. An Ascent 2.0 or maybe even a whole game with the same ideas and scale. Like a said it's a lot of potential. But I would not recommend this game as it is now. You're going in the right direction though
This was my former labor of love award some years ago, but it seems to be abandoned now. The base game is a lot of fun at first, but dies off because the end game content was incompletely developed.
This is an awesome game! I have played many Space games over the years, like Free Lancer, Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous etc. Ascent - The Space Game is right up there with them in my humble opinion. I have been playing for a few weeks and have not gotten bored, in fact just the opposite. I can't get enough. There is so much to do in this game. You can be a trader of goods or materials. You can go mine Asteroids. You can build a Planetary farm or settlement. You can build an Inner Space base. You can build an outer Space base. You build and develop a Colony. You can be an explorer and discover new systems. (You get your name attached when you do.) You can fight NPC pirates, If you chose to. (It isn't forced on you.) You can complete different story missions. You can build/sell your own ships and armor etc. Do you want a chill game that you can do at your own pace? Do you want a game that you will not be harassed by other players? How about no griefing? I love that part! How about a great Dev that is still active and cares deeply for his creation? It is all here waiting on you. If you are looking to experience something better and something a cut above then this is it. The graphics and the music are fantastic. The game just feels right when you play it. I should also mention that there is a ton of help for new players such as myself. There are Wiki pages, Forums, Youtube Videos and an in game chat. All the players I have spoken with in game have been super friendly and very helpful. Ascent - The Space Game is not expensive at all. Especially when you consider all that you can do. There are some DLC's that you can purchase to help with the development but 100% not needed to play. My biggest regret is that I didn't find this game years ago. I sure wish I had. Give it a try, you won't regret it. I'll see you out there.
Good morning, everyone I found this Game about a week ago, and have already put in over 120 hours, it has been a very long time since I have got so engrossed in a game so fast, the last time was EVE back in 2005 to 2011, many games have come and gone since then, of which most of most have been forgotten I am very much into mining and trading, so that is where a lot of my time has gone, developing skills and making in game credits to progress further into the game, but that is only part of what this sandbox game is all about Building settlements on planets or space stations, exploration, research, story lines and building ships are a few of the other items from a long list of things that can be achieved A big factor for myself is there is no PVP, NPC does exist, but you go to them not the other way around, and as a safeguard your ship is taken to safety should you get into trouble with the pirates The game has been around for a while now, but the devs and long time players are around to help and offer advice, and I would like to thank them for the support they have shown DLC ship packs are available to buy, the purchase provides funds to help further develop the programme, but the game is very much playable without them Ascent- The Space Game, IMHO opinion is the one of the best games out there Please come and join us, its brilliant
I have played this game, on and off, but mostly on, since November 2014. The game developer, yes it is one guy, has been hijacked to another project; he needed to feed and house himself and the Fluffy Kitten, and Ascent TSG, for some strange reason, has not got the popularity to support him. Thus, the number of regular players is at an all time low, but there are still a couple of projects that are being worked on. These projects involve extending the network of Jump Gates which are used by players to move from one system to another without needing a Jump engine for the ship. This allows more cargo space for Player ships and enables NPC pilots in the employ of players to move between the star systems. The game is co-operative. There is no PvP combat though an area, marked in red on the Galactic Map, has been reserved for a future implementation of PvP. There is a very simple PvE system and all systems that are inhabited can have NPC Pirates; which can he fought. Being a co-operative game has encouraged players to help each other more than would be considered 'normal' in most MMO games. So if you want to play in a virtually risk-free, helpful, relaxed environment then this game would seem ideal for you. If you want to play in a risky, competitive, stressful environment then you are best to look elsewhere. The game allows any player to fly any ship they can afford. The low level ships (Class 2 to Class 10) are fairly easy to get the cash for. The higher level ships (Class 11 to Class 15) can only be made by players and are relatively expensive. So, how do you make cash? There are basically three methods:

Trading materials between Player Stock Markets(SMs) and/or NPC Local Markets(LMs)
Mining Asteroids and selling the output to either SMs or LMs
Making Goods, mining Materials or making Ship Parts and Ships to sell to other Players and, in the case of Goods and Materials to LMs. This needs at least one Colony or Starbase.
The game uses a subscription system (called Premium) to pay for servertime. Three months Premium is included with the game purchase price. TIP: Do NOT be too eager to activate your Premium period. wait until you have reached the limit of what you can do without premium before you activate it. Without premium you can do anything, except build Colonies and/or Starbases; though you may have two small Settlements; one on Ceres, to grow Grain, and the other on Vulcan, to mine Iron and one small Starbase in Apollo. You are, however, limited to Class 5 Mining Beams, Ram Scoops and Weapons. It is perfectly possible to have a good time playing the game without paying. Currently Premium costs USD2.99 per month, which can be paid monthly as a recurring payment or quarterly (total USD 8.97) as a non-recurring payment. The game needs patience to play. The amount of cash needed to get the higher Class ships could be a grind otherwise. You could concentrate solely on acquiring cash and the methods of cash-making an be entertaining, especially Asteroid Mining, but why not take a bit more time and have a break from it. You can do a bit of exploring, or help out with the current projects; we always need volunteers to haul materials to the new gates :). If you have built any colonies you will need to patrol them to make sure they have enough food and luxuries to keep their morale at optimum levels. This will help break the potential monotony of just making money. Eventually, money becomes less of a goal, anyway. The game has no pre-written storyline. There is a background story, but this ends after the tutorial. You will need to figure out for yourself what your goals are going to be. Your goals are only limited by your imagination, the game code and relating to other Players in a friendly, co-operative manner. The game is a good game and has the potential to be a great game. However, as mentioned already, the developer is hung up on another project. We are hoping that he will be able to find time to do more development on this game but, for the time being, we are trying to keep things ticking over. New players are always welcome and we will provide all the help we can. Just be aware that there are few regular players at present. You can always make contact with other players through the game forum at forum.thespacegame.com The discussions here on Steam are not really used by regular players. I do not usually run the game through Steam either, which explains my relatively low number of hours even though I have been playing since before the game came to Steam.
