Incredibly beautiful and well made game. Highly recommend

Even though we use the term "B-movies" a lot, we rarely use the term "B-games". But this is exactly that. It's a low-budget rally-themed car game which finds the sweet spot between the seriousness in paying tribute to a wonderful sport and the sillyness of becoming the disciple of Buddha. Technically, it's insufficient. The low-poly graphics and the colour palette are eye-catching, but the pop-up is insane and the re-use of assets is evident. The sound design is non-existent. The game would be dead silent if it weren't for the sound of the cars' engine and the soundtrack (which is there merely to provide noise). The career is fine-ish. Once you find your level of challenge, it's satisfying to get the victory. But you pay no consequences if you finish 3rd rather than 1st and the amount of content, meaning stages and locations, does not support its length very well. You basically go through the entire track list at least 3 times before the campaign is over. You have access to a lot of cars, but you won't be changing your way of driving for any of them. So it feels very diluted by the end. The technical limitations of the game force the player to play in a super-cautious way. You're never warned if you're approaching a jump or a blind corner with a cliff on the side. Half of the time you're guessing the corner based on your experience or under-driving the car to minimize the risk of mistakes. So it's flawed, too flawed for the price it gets sold if you ask me. 25€ (+9 for the DLC) is horrible. Wait for a sale, at least 50%. But nailing a stage with your favourite car (and if you pick this game, it's because you have one in mind) is super fun. And I find it poetic that in the very last season, my Fujin teammate, Colin McRey, allowed me to win my 8th consecutive championship by winning the last rally instead of my rival in the standings. That's all that matters. 6,5/10

This is easily a 9.5/10 game, so close to being perfect. The object is simple; just drive the stages as fast as you can, while avoiding crashing into lakes, mountains, boulders, and trees. Oh, and get ready for a crash course in all the great eras of rally racing. The handling is surprisingly deep despite what the simplified visuals may suggest, which by the way the visuals are incredible. Cars feel weighty and the difference between FWD, RWD, and 4WD are all reflected beautifully. I do wish there was a car setup menu to tweak each car to your liking, but that goes against the principle of this game. The scenery is breathtaking and perfectly encapsulates each geographical area perfectly. Each area has multiple weather effects and times of day. The music is also a major plus, with the 80s synth wave being a killer soundtrack to your driving. The car sounds are fine, obviously being a bit more simplified to match the visuals. Each tier or racing gets tougher with more races, but I love progressing through the golden age of rally and all the decades, with tons of homages to real life rally legends. The difficulty can also be tweaked a ton in this game, from how tough the AI is, to your assists, transmission style, and damage intensity. The only reason this isn't a perfect 10/10 for me is the camera angles. I know the purpose of them being more aerial than a normal 3rd person view, but at times it makes it tough to really take a line through a corner in the ideal spot, so that I'm often left cutting the corner or running wide, catching the car as it oversteers. If you like cozy games, if you are a fan of rally, if you like 80s synth music, this game is a must-buy!
