Wonderful loveletter to Gameboy platformers, just the right level of difficulty - I can't stand how most indie platformers shoot to be as difficult as possible owing to the success of Super Meat Boy and Shovel Knight. Sometimes you just need a simple and fun game to unwind with and Arlo definitely provides that! I do have a few small criticisms to make - the lack of an ability to look below you means you will be making tons of leaps of faith, and sometimes the visuals don't correctly indicate what they should. For example, in the lava level the tall grass points straight up and look like spikes, which had me very puzzled until I jumped on them and realised they were just background details. I would also suggest removing the lava falls, since I wasn't aware I could jump into them without taking damage. Aside from these two issues, I can easily recommend this to anyone who grew up with a gameboy or anyone looking for a fun, casual platformer game that won't leave you feeling overly frustrated. Fantastic job!!!
Overall a really solid little game! The controls are tight and simple, level design is good, and it really nails the structure of a gameboy game! Music is fantastic, every song is catchy and fitting for the stage. The final level theme is my personal favorite. Unfortunetly, graphics are the weak point of the game. Enemy sprites look fine, and the end-of-level dance is really cute, but the tilesets are flat and amatuer-ish. Often times its hard to tell what's background and what's a platform, and its hard to know which pits are bottomless. Don't let that scare you away though, because this is a very fun platformer. The graphics aren't too big an issue because of the gameboy aesthetic. For $3, this game is completely worth it. I had a smile the entire time playing because the games charm. I recommend it!
First of all, I'm a platformer junkie. :) ( check my library ) This is a very good one. Solid controls but be forewarned. YOU CANNOT SAVE. Hopefully, there will be more Arlo in the future.
A quirky little platformer with tons of charm. If you're a fan of Nintendo's Kirby series you'll love this game and it's adorable style. The soundtrack is also catchy and super fun to listen to. If there's one thing I don't like about the game, it's the fact that it's too short. I hope to see more of what Good Friends Studios has to offer in the future.
A neat little game. Aside from it being a little short, it's simple and fun.
Ill keep this brief, Arlo is good. It's avery cute game and from the little I've played I enjoy it a fair amount. The graphics have a very cute look to them and the soundtrack is absolutley wonderful. But I got two issues with the game that I hope are addressed in the sequel -Arlo's jump is a bit to floaty (at least for me) This may not be an issue for everybody but I'm not the biggest fan of the jump, though it is something i can get used too -A few enemy placements felt a bit cheap*NOTE upon writing this I still havent finished the game since I had to work earlier this morning so Im still on the second level/world Other then that though Arlo is a pretty fun time and for a first crack at a game its a pretty impressive job
Just got done doing a stream of this, and most people who stopped by and were curious most definitley enjoyed it. For it being a short game, it really is worth $3. It is a complete throwback to the Gameboy era of games, with the right controls, and great level design. At times the game can be hard (Given it's inspiration to old Gameboy games it lives up to it's inspiration!) While playing this I got all kinds of Kirby vibes mixed with the gameplay of Super Mario Bros. 2 (US release). Definitely would recommend to someone who is wanting something new and short. Or to someone who just loves going back to classic Gameboy games in general. I hope to see much success with this game and definitely look forward to what Good Friend Studios has in-store for the future!

would totally reccomend if you like the style of the old gameboy platformers EDIT: some suggestions: - a small sound when picking up, and throwing rocks just to make it feel more satisfying. - make Arlo's hitbox a bit smaller. The hitbox should be smaller than the sprite. - a pause button!
