If you are a real fan of the "top-down rogue-light shooters" this may entertain you for a few hours. It is nothing ground breaking, and it has its flaws, but the combat is fun and satisfying. If you are looking into getting into this genre, perhaps looking at another more well rounded title would be better. Please watch my video to get more of an idea on if purchasing this title is for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndz50qVw3xE
Top down shooter that plays terribly with twin sticks, putting that aside, handles very well with mouse and keyboard. Randomly generate levels, with 9+ level that change the amount of enemies to kill as you go through offering a progressive skill curve, but they game is also based on level ups and spending points in abilities and this also adds in as some parts of the game can not be beaten by skill alone. Example: moving out of the way of the wider projectiles is impossible without certain speed level ups. So if you are happy to join a smashing your head against a wall from time to time until you have enough experience to past then you should like this game. Some pacing issues I found: Shield takes a while to reload outside of battle meaning waiting between rooms for it to reload is artificially making the game seem slower then it should be. Weapons having to "reload" each time you switch also takes away possible skill elements to the game as well. Solid enough nothing genre changing at all. Recommend to people who seen videos of the game play and like it. Looking for the new genre or to be on the start of something "early" then not for you. Rest in video: https://youtu.be/1E04LutoIQo
Ein sehr puristisches und herausfordendes Top-Down-Shoot'em Up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0i90Av283AY
After 2 hours with Ares Omega I felt like i'd experienced everything it had to offer, in fact after an hour i'd felt like this so what is my recommendation for you guys? well, there's nothing here to persuade someone who doesn't already like top down shooter and for those who do enjoy them, well there's nothing about Ares Omega that sets it apart from crowd so i would leave this one alone. I'm sure there are better games, even within the same price range. I only paid just under £7 for it and still feel like I didn't quite get my money's worth.
It is somewhat interesting but it isn't a game changer and if you aren't already interested in top down shooters, pass this one up. Otherwise, you might find some enjoyment out of the top down shooter but not a terrible amount. Pros: It does what it says it does The gameplay is solid at least The weapons all have a slightly different feel to them, if only slightly You keep your progress when you die so leaving the game is just a matter of suicide Virtually any system can run this Cons: Pistols feel useless - Dev Defended this....it's still a useless weapon to take. Your soldier even upgraded moves too slow to dodge the fire You do not automatically reload when out of ammo - This has been changed since I did the review Despite holding down the trigger, sometimes randomly stop firing your gun even if it has ammo Grenades are not only hard to aim but hard to time and not really worth the end all be all they should be for the effort Nothing special here at all Death doesn't matter much to you, at all taking away some of the challenge, sometimes you actually want to die to just level up or get it over with Graphics and Art are uninspired and pretty drab, even for a lower bit game Overall Score: 2.9/5 Rage Factor: 0.5/5 (I got Almost No Emotional Response playing this game at all) Video Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWJ-Gq332C0
Fun top down roguelite twin stick shooter. Has quite a nice weapon arsenal and you keep unlocking new weapons as you progress in the game as well as unlocking upgrade points and getting more health/armor. There does seem to be random crashes every 2-4 levels in the game and turning off some of the graphic options *might* help with that. Apart from that I experienced no technical issues. All in all quite an enjoyable game that is cheap as dirt and something of a hidden gem.
https://youtu.be/lU5fkq00b0s The rogue like shooter 'Ares Omega' completely misses the mark with it's gameplay choices. As the White Ranger it's you job to destroy all the corrupted kill bots on a mars research base. As the apparently lowest bidder to do this job you start off with weak weapons and no combat skills. The design intent is that this will be improved by incremental upgrades fitting a rogue-like game. However the core issue of weapon accuracy never reaches a point where players can hit what they are shooting at. That said from a design standpoint it would have been more enjoyable for players if the accuracy was stable and had damage improve over time instead. Incredibly slow movement speed almost demands a heavy commitment in skill points to make up for the sloth like avatar. Combined with a strange decision to reload guns when switching to them brings the game's pacing to rock bottom levels.
I got the game on sale for about 1.00USD$ and I'd say it is worth (or more near) that. 4.99 is too steep for its general quality when compared to games with higher budgets for sale at similar pricepoints. The trailer may make the game look a little more complex and polished than it really is (especially in regards to graphics, they look way worse in the actual game than what appears in the trailer..) but what is present is a solid top-down shooter. With full controller support, a dodge button, and equipment and skills to unlock, it presents a "full game" for its price. A lack of any kind of camera control (it follows directly above the player) may be irksome to some, and does make the animations appear a bit more stilted than they may need to, but it also keeps the action proceeding simply and smoothly. You can level up, unlocking skills (higher health / shields / more ammo / higher dmg etc..) and you find and unlock a plethora of guns which are available later for loadout customization. Grenades and medkits add further complexity to the gameplay, however it largely is a "what you see is what you get" kind of game (and its budget is readily apparent..) It has a certain charm if you're a fan of sci fi / alien type scenarios, and the gameplay itself is fun as you survive further levels into the derelict space facility, while fighting off a variety of enemies and bosses.
BEST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED IN MY LIFE!!!! I will recommend this game to every significant person in my life. I love this game so much!! I have 5 hours on the game at the time of review and will most definetly have more by the time you read this. The top down style of the game is very appealing to me! But the crowning feature is the context sensitive A button. If you stand close to a ladder, the A button display at the top of the screen will change to climb or descend, if you run around freely, it will change to jump, stand next to a sign and it turns into read, and so on. Simply pressing the button will activate the function. Some of the available functions include open, pull, push, dive, check, talk and crawl. This A button feature is the devs way to keep things simple and to deal with the limited selection of buttons on a standard console controller. Once in a while, the automatic selection will cause you to do something you weren't trying to, but 99% of the time it works perfectly fine. The music in Ares Omega is equally impressive. While there is a hero’s theme there are dozens of songs for each environment and they all respond to the action occurring on screen. For instance, when a robot is about to get you…that tune comes on “dumddududududu.” This is another advantage of the music -- real time data exchange. As a result of the cart interacting with the game in real time, the audio responds proactively within the title and creates an even greater feeling of immersion. As you’d expect all the sound effects are great. From gun shooting, robot beeping to the clink of metal, everything is perfect. This game is so good that they had to make an irritating element or else it would be divine! The coolest thing about the audio is the active role it plays in the action. This occurs through the hero's reliance upon killing robots. I love the fact that the creators of this title fully developed the gun as a tool. The entire use of the gun in this game is so fresh. Once you get used to the radically different camera system and button control, navigating the environments and fighting against enemies becomes second nature. Many of the problems that plagues other shooter games in the camera and control department are a thing of the past, and there is virtually nothing that distracts from Ares Omega's immersive gameplay. Being able to explore the wide environments, go through corridors, fight robots, pick up and use items and discover new areas becomes second nature fairly quickly and soon you will feel right at home. Add to that an interesting quest, tons of mini-games, hidden items (how about a two-fisted sword that doesn't break?) and enemies (100 hidden robot spiders, anyone?) and a compelling storyline with plenty of robot killing. Sure, you can probably blast through the title in around 3 hours, but it's easy to see why some gamers are spending in excess of 97 hours to complete the title. The skill tree is well balanced and rewarding to fill out. I will spend countless more hours playing through this game for my 7th time just building different characters!! The weapon selection is amazing as well. (don't forget the two-fisted sword!!) The gorgon launcher is currently my favorite weapon in the game!! In summary, this game is an contextual masterpiece. P.S. The goblin pistol was a great addition!!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 6/5-best game ever made! Your children's children are gonna want to play this game.
First, make sure you can play this with a mouse and keyboard. Game controllers are unusable in this game (e.g., the aiming reticle disappears if you're not using a mouse, making aiming effectively impossible). That said, if played with a mouse and keyboard, this has the potential to be a fun little top-down shooter. The action is fast-paced, the limit of vision based on physical obstacles makes for a bit of "fog of war" effect that keeps things interesting. Unfortunately, the game is ruined by a really awful "save game" system, where, if you do not end your game on an odd-numbered floor (????), you'll have to start at the last odd-numbered floor - in my case, I ended my game on floor 2, but the game made me start over on floor one. Not only that, the floor I restarted on was significantly more difficult than the first floor 1 I played - significantly above the skill level I had been able to upgrade my character to.
