Arcadie: Second-Born

I remembered playing the demo on itch thinking it wouldn't be that interesting, but after a few minutes I was so hooked on the novel I had to buy it on steam to see the ending and i can't wait for the sequel to release.

Greatly enjoyed this chose your own adventure, particularly the character stats breakdown and the sheer amount of expressive choices. The story felt original and compelling, while not breaking the box of a fantasy. The plot was well written, action was fun, and the romance a definite bonus. I replayed moments with the very convinient 'back' button and appreciated the ease of saving. Downsides to this game were the lack of a gender neutral option for the player, and the set appearence of the parents/sister. Those details do feel like oversights when you otherwise have significant choice, but are genuinely minor. In conclusion, it was well worth it and I am eagerly awaiting the second installment!

前期叙事确实有些慢节奏和单薄，在第一次城堡之战后才变得刺激精彩起来。宫廷权谋部分平顺简单，并不复杂。可以理解，毕竟是IF而不是政治专作，个人也比较青睐这种较为轻松的游玩体验。两位RO的剧情也是经典展开，质量有保证，可以放心游玩。值得夸赞的是该作作为独立作品，程序比COG平台精致实用很多 (可以随时存取档！！！真是救了大命)。我是在steam deck上玩的，字体大小可调，除文本拖拽比较麻烦外体验堪称完美。该作作为系列作还有一个优点，就是结局时事态已告一段落，没有在高潮处戛然而止，免去玩家在抓心挠肝中苦苦等待之苦 (说的就是你啊fallen hero！我等得好苦苦苦)。综合来说非常推荐，国区原价购入个人认为也是值得的，期待今年发行的续作！

Well made, beautifully written story. The world is inviting, rich, yet not overwhelming. As a fan of games in a similar vein (if you enjoyed this game, do yourself a favour and try the sabers of infinity saga), Arcadie successfully scratches every itch when it comes to historical-flavoured, extremely low magic fantasy. I particularly enjoyed the considered character building choices, with my character in both appearance and personality feeling seen and relevant. The romance was satisfying and well written, and while a little sudden, it was heartfelt and energising. The technical side of the game, while less pronounced than other similar titles, served its purpose - in terms of giving my character a uniqueness and skillset, while avoiding the all too familiar trap of being constrictive (though this does label the game as 'casual' in my book). Thoroughly enjoyable, well written and depth for history and fantasy fans - heartwarming, tense, and approachable for drama and romance fans.

I love love love text based games, and finding this gem was fantastic, especially as it is outside of Hosted and Choice of, which i don't necessarily have a problem with but love seeing text based games published outside of that company, I'm looking forward to the second game so I can continue romancing you know who lol

Incredible writing - I replayed this so I could have it fresh in my mind for playing the sequel demo. Just as amazing as I remember it - I definitely recommend this to anyone who is a fan of interactive fiction!

Despite only 3 hours of play time, I fell in love with this games narrative and some of the characters.

Great story. Yes Arcadie runs on linux. I run Debain, and with proton v10 it runs on my machine. The game's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. 9/10 - the only way it could get better is if it were free. Can't wait for Sofia to come out with the second installment
