About
Apoikia is a city-building and economic simulation where every decision ripples through a living market. Start with a small settlement and grow it into a thriving economic hub by mastering supply chains, shaping regional markets, and steering society through the laws you enact.
Build across varied terrain, carve out productive regions, and turn local resources into prosperity. Extract raw materials, refine them through multi-step production, and keep goods moving through a complex market system that tracks supply, demand, and price trends. Labor, logistics, and production efficiency matter as much as where you build.
Beyond buildings, Apoikia puts policy in your hands. Unlock legal actions through research and legislation, set taxes and regulations, and guide your society's growth with rules that change how people live, work, and trade. Your legal framework is a core tool for stabilizing the economy and unlocking new strategies.
- Combat System: Fight AI-controlled rivals, wild animals, and tribes; a strong economy is the backbone of your combat strength.
- Investment Firms: Market-driven businesses purchase land and fund new construction to chase profits. You can list your own properties for sale and let firms acquire them.
- Economy-first city building with regional markets, price shifts, and real supply-demand pressure.
- Deep production system with resource extraction, processing chains, and workforce management.
- Legal and policy gameplay that lets you enact laws, set taxes, and shape social and economic behavior.
- Living society simulation where citizens seek food, housing, services, and jobs across your regions.
- Terrain-driven expansion that rewards smart placement, infrastructure planning, and resource specialization.
- Long-term progression through research and unlocks that open new industries and legal options.
Whether you want to build a self-sustaining agrarian hub, a trade-driven industrial powerhouse, or a tightly regulated market economy, Apoikia gives you the tools to shape the world you rule.

This game is ambitious in the best way. Almost everything feels interactive, and the range of actions makes the whole experience feel very flexible and player-driven. The private ownership system is especially refreshing for a city builder: buildings and units handle their own buying through the market, so your focus shifts toward improving settlement-wide production while keeping prices affordable. Citizens also have complex behaviors that reduce the need for constant micromanagement, which keeps the game enjoyable at scale. At the same time, smart micromanagement can still improve throughput, so there is a nice balance between automation and player control. I can already see how the military system could integrate deeply with production and markets, and that should make combat both strategic and fun. There are still areas that need tuning, especially in the early game. Construction companies struggle to stay efficient without subsidies, and early log shortages can take too long to recover from. If those bottlenecks are smoothed out, the pacing and progression would feel much better.
As I expected going in, this game is as BASIC as it comes when it comes to city builders. Made with Unity Store assets, and having the overall depth of a Tic-Tac has nutritional value, this is as bad of a value as you can possibly get here on Steam. Honestly, this feels like a low effort asset flip. ..Maybe this is something AI built, but whatever it is, it takes all of 15 minutes to understand that this is NOT a well built city builder. And to add insult to injury, the asset flipping developer who pumped this game out in a very short period of time is asking the same as you can purchase the overly excellent "Ostriv" for. (It's been less than six months since his last Steam game release). Absurd. Let's just go over the problems I experienced in the first 15 minutes... and WHY I quickly requested a refund on Steam: - Changing many of the settings has ZERO effect with no "apply" button. I changed the music level to 0% and then to 100%. No difference. I also changed textures from 0% to 100% and witnessed ZERO difference. *sigh* - Immediately you are given a crew of 30 people and they almost all have the FLU (92%). - No way to control your citizens or tell them what to do at all. All you do is build the basic 20 or 30 buildings and wait. Ugh. Remember what I said about this game having the depth of a tic-tac? - The game completely closed out (crashed) on me three times in 15 minutes. - The citizens ALL look EXACTLY the same. Let's make a more BORING looking city builder, shall we? - Why do the citizens keep looking as if they are falling face first into the ground then get up and walk? Are they sick? Are they brain dead? There is NO information when I try and click on one. - The citizens IQ is about as smart as a rock. We can't control them, and we are forced to witness them acting like brain dead zombies. Oh what fun this is! Let's not talk about the first review and subsequent 2nd and 3rd reviews REEK of purchased FAKE positive reviews directly out of China. If you can't get positive reviews naturally with your over-priced asset cobbled together trash game, why not BUY them right Mr Dev? NOT RECOMMENDED: This game shouldn't be asking for more than about $5 USD tops. And even then with the lack of depth and terrible AI, I think even then this would be an utter rip-off. WHAT I RECOMMEND INSTEAD: If you haven't ever played "Ostriv" right here on Steam, I highly recommend that at the same price. It was also developed by a single dev, the difference is that dev actually cares and tried to make a great city building game.
