https://store.steampowered.com/app/1933970/_Anime_Studio_Story/
If you are looking for a game like Game Dev Story, you found it. While the game is fun, it has alot of issues in my opinion. It is much slower paced. Time moves quickly in the game, but your workers move at a snail's pace. There are points where i am forced to sit and do nothing because I am so broke that I cannot make an anime, but there are no subcontracts to do because I completed them all. You have to wait for them to respond. I am STRUGGGGGLING for money in this game. Much more challenging so maybe the pay off is great. I will probably keep playing but this one is definitely much more annoying. They also forgot to add mouse controls for the menu popup. So you cant right click to pull up the menu, you have to manually click on it.

This game has an interesting concept, but the execution falls flat. The game quickly becomes repetitive, with the same mechanics over and over. It feels more like a grind than an engaging experience. If you're a fan of Kairosoft, you might find some enjoyment in the customization, but overall, it lacks the charm and depth of their better titles.
Anime Studio Story, developed and published by Kairosoft Co., Ltd, is a charming management simulation that gives players the opportunity to run their very own anime production company. True to Kairosoft’s signature style, the game features colorful pixel art, a whimsical tone, and an addictive loop centered around incremental progress. Players start as the head of a small, inexperienced studio with limited funds, a handful of staff members, and the dream of creating hit anime series. From that modest foundation, the game expands into a complex and rewarding cycle of creativity, resource management, and experimentation as you build your reputation, discover new genres, and compete for fan approval in a growing entertainment market. The presentation is instantly recognizable for fans of Kairosoft’s library—adorable character sprites, upbeat background music, and satisfying sound effects that accompany every small victory create an atmosphere that is both cozy and motivating. At its heart, the game is about producing successful anime while managing the delicate balance between artistic ambition and commercial success. Every new project begins with a decision about the genre, theme, and creative direction of the series, which you can mix and match to find combinations that resonate with audiences. The production process unfolds through several stages—planning, storyboarding, animation, and editing—each requiring input from your team. Staff members, including directors, animators, and sound engineers, all have unique strengths and skills that influence the quality of the finished product. Assigning the right people to the right roles becomes a key strategic layer. As your studio earns more money and gains experience, you can recruit new talent, upgrade your facilities, and invest in better tools to improve production efficiency and raise the overall standard of your work. The joy of watching your small studio evolve into a powerhouse of creativity gives the game a strong sense of progression and accomplishment. While Anime Studio Story is easy to pick up, it hides a surprising amount of depth in its simulation systems. The player must not only worry about making great anime but also about managing the business side—budgeting, marketing, and maintaining staff morale. The tension between creativity and practicality keeps the experience engaging. Each decision, whether to splurge on new equipment or save funds for a future project, carries real consequences for your growth. Marketing campaigns can attract fans, merchandise sales can supplement revenue, and successful anime releases can win awards that boost your reputation. It’s satisfying to see your studio’s fame increase after a breakout hit, but sustaining that success requires continual adaptation. Audience preferences evolve, and repeating the same formula too often will lead to diminishing returns. This forces players to experiment with new genres and themes, keeping the process from becoming entirely predictable, at least in the early and middle stages of the game. However, like many Kairosoft titles, Anime Studio Story eventually reveals its mechanical limits once you have mastered its systems. The early and mid-game periods feel balanced and rewarding, but as your studio becomes profitable and your staff reach high skill levels, the sense of challenge begins to fade. The thrill of risk-taking diminishes once you can comfortably fund every project and produce guaranteed hits. While the variety of genre and theme combinations is broad on the surface, the results often follow familiar patterns, making experimentation less meaningful over time. Random events and occasional special requests from clients add brief moments of excitement, yet they rarely shake up the established rhythm. The game’s pacing also slows down in later stages, as much of the gameplay revolves around waiting for production phases to complete or repeating familiar upgrade cycles. Despite these limitations, the charm and personality of Anime Studio Story carry it a long way. There is something inherently satisfying about nurturing a team of quirky artists and technicians, watching their skills improve, and seeing them celebrate as your latest anime earns critical acclaim. The presentation never fails to delight, from the exaggerated animations of your staff at work to the humorous reviews that follow each release. The pixel-art style, though simple, perfectly captures the cozy charm of Kairosoft’s world, and the game’s upbeat tone makes it easy to lose track of time as you chase your next big hit. The soundtrack and effects, while repetitive, complement the overall aesthetic and help sustain a relaxing pace that encourages long play sessions without stress or frustration. Over extended play, the main appeal of Anime Studio Story lies in its combination of creativity and management. It rewards players who enjoy optimization—finding the perfect staff lineup, balancing workloads, and maximizing efficiency for each production cycle. There’s a satisfying rhythm to watching the numbers climb, from audience scores to fan counts and profits, and the sense of building a small empire out of imagination alone is appealing. However, players seeking deeper simulation mechanics or dynamic storytelling may find its simplicity limiting. It lacks the unpredictable narrative twists or systemic complexity that define more detailed tycoon games, and its charm relies primarily on its steady progression loop and the joy of creation rather than on constant innovation. In the end, Anime Studio Story succeeds as a relaxing and enjoyable management experience, one that captures the spirit of the animation industry in a lighthearted and accessible way. It is less about the realism of running a production studio and more about the satisfaction of growth, discovery, and creative play. While it doesn’t offer endless surprises or deep strategic layers, its cheerful tone, engaging feedback systems, and sense of accomplishment make it one of Kairosoft’s more memorable simulation entries. It embodies the studio’s strengths—simplicity, charm, and replayable structure—while showing the same weaknesses of repetition and limited complexity that characterize their catalog. For those who appreciate the rhythm of Kairosoft’s design philosophy, Anime Studio Story is a delightful addition to their collection, delivering hours of low-pressure management fun wrapped in the bright, imaginative world of anime creation.
