Very interesting game but too black and white and unrealistic in a lot ways that seem unfair. Some of the outcomes don't really seem to make sense. Other than that, I like the premise a lot, but only liked the game a little.

A fun little game. The content is quite dated covering mostly the time and feel up to the late 80s.But there are worse things than reliving once own youth if you are old enough to remember these times.

lowk so ass. the console version is better. just find a rom hack or something.

for a text game from the 80s it's pretty good, but there is no save button and there is an instant game over thing

Too short and not enough time in each "chapter" to really do even half of the event cards, i hope there will be second one made to be more in line with todays world + longer

Highly recommended if you're curious about how your life could've went. The infancy scenarios are adorable, although the later stages have some unexpected surprises. It doesn't deter me.

I don't think Peter J. Favaro understands the true complexity of the human mind. Many choices I made straight up wouldn't work or, worse still, resulted in a screen that essentially told me I was wrong. This is a very bare-bones life simulator and extremely dated. Pass it up unless you have nostalgia for the 80's.

I enjoy life simulator games as much as the next person. I do adore this storyline and how wholesome some of the interactions are, but, when it skips past an age without letting you do every option, it gets frustrating. I wish that it was more accurate in terms of interacting with social media, the internet, etc. I also wish there was an option to be a member of the LGBTQ+ community. It is disappointing that there is a small list of names of potential love interests for each stage of life. Overall, it is an enjoyable game that could just use some updating.

I played this game on a web browser ages ago and it was incredible. I play it now and It's almost as if it's some kind of time machine. The events here in this game, though text-based, provide you with a truly humbling reflection on life. Some events in Alter Ego mirrored my actual life and experiences, others made me rethink my future decisions. The fact that this was developed by a psychologist, to which capacity I don't know, is clear in the deep psychoanalyses it places on every decision you make, creating a seemingly-endless number of endings and experiences. It's a very unique experience and I could'nt recommend it more!

Preface: This is one of the best life simulation games I've every played, right up there with The Sims 3 and The Sims 2. It's probably one of my favorite games. As an adolescent who grew up under turbulent conditions, playing this game sorta helped model for me how to go about handling myself in certain situations. I recommend this game - just not the paid version. Cons: Here's the thing, this game used to be free and you could play it online on the author's site with a donation model. The author now charges for the game but offers no new features or fixes to the game. The inclusion of achievements alone could warrant the price tag. I bought the game because I never donated when I played this as a kid because I didn't have a way to. Just about every screen of the game has the author's name at the top. There can be some buggy spots with stats and relationships in the mid to later parts of the game. It's not clear in certain scenarios if the game is aware you're in a relationship. Then there are modules that seem harmless, but can instantly end your relationship with someone that you've worked on for some time. The game is set in the 80s which is when it was originally made. It is nowhere as easy today for people to save money, afford college, a house, or a family. In a way the game frankly feels somewhat removed from being like a life simulation game. Pros: The game has that "one more turn" feel to it. There is replay-ability here as you can't do all the modules in one play through. The game handles adult situations, which you can opt out of, pretty well for the most part. The game was made by a psychologist, so it can be insightful at times.
