I really love games with good stories and this did not dissapoint. Enjoyed the horror elements and the little surprise love "event" that took place. I would really recommend this game to anyone who enjoys point-n-click games.

An okay-ish point & click adventure that seemed to me a lot older than it's release date, judging by it's gameplay. This one might appeal the most to people that love this genre, but for causal players the slow-moving and sometimes unintuitive way of puzzle solving can get a tiny bit frustrating. I do have to mention that sadly the resolution is fixed on a lower rate, which I didn't mind, but for higher is always better. Still, it's a decent game given the fact that it's a freebie and I had a good time with it.
Alpha Polaris: A Horror Adventure Game, developed and published by Turmoil Games, is a traditional point-and-click experience that builds its identity around isolation, psychological tension, and a creeping sense of the unknown. Set in a remote Arctic research station in Greenland, the game places players in the role of Rune Knudsen, a biologist whose routine work is gradually disrupted by strange discoveries beneath the ice. From the beginning, the game leans heavily into atmosphere rather than spectacle, aiming to create unease through setting, tone, and slow narrative development instead of relying on constant shocks or overt horror sequences. The strongest element of the game is its setting, which is used effectively to reinforce its themes. The Arctic environment feels harsh and unforgiving, with endless stretches of snow and the confined interiors of the station creating a constant sense of isolation. There’s a quiet tension in simply existing within this space, amplified by the knowledge that help is far away and the environment itself is inherently hostile. As the story unfolds, elements of folklore and cosmic horror begin to emerge, blending grounded realism with something more abstract and unsettling. This gradual shift from the familiar to the unknown is where the game finds much of its narrative strength. Gameplay follows a classic point-and-click structure, with players moving between locations, interacting with objects, solving puzzles, and engaging in dialogue. The mechanics are straightforward and accessible, making it easy to settle into the experience without a steep learning curve. Inventory management and environmental interaction are handled in a familiar way, and for fans of the genre, there’s a certain comfort in how closely it adheres to established conventions. However, this also means the game rarely innovates, sticking closely to traditional design rather than experimenting with new ideas. The pacing is one of the more divisive aspects of the experience. Much of the game unfolds slowly, with long stretches of relatively calm exploration and dialogue before the horror elements begin to take center stage. While this deliberate buildup helps establish atmosphere, it can also dilute the tension, especially when the narrative struggles to maintain momentum. Characters often react to unusual events with a level of calm that feels at odds with the situation, which weakens the intended psychological impact. As a result, the game occasionally loses the sense of urgency and fear that its premise suggests. Puzzle design is similarly uneven. Some challenges are logical and rewarding, encouraging players to carefully observe their surroundings and think through solutions. Others, however, can feel obscure or unintuitive, leading to moments where progress stalls and immersion is broken. This inconsistency affects the overall flow, as players may shift from being engaged in the story to being frustrated by unclear objectives or solutions. The relatively short length of the game further compounds this, as there isn’t always enough time for its ideas to fully develop or for its narrative to reach a more satisfying depth. Visually, the game adopts a semi-realistic style with pre-rendered environments that effectively capture the stark beauty of its setting. The interiors of the station and the frozen landscapes outside are detailed enough to feel believable, even if they lack the polish of larger productions. Character models and animations are more limited, but the inclusion of voice acting helps bring interactions to life and adds a layer of personality to the cast. The sound design, particularly the ambient audio, plays a key role in maintaining the atmosphere, subtly reinforcing the sense of isolation and unease. Despite its flaws, Alpha Polaris manages to leave a lasting impression through its mood and setting. It’s a game that clearly aims to tell a thoughtful, atmospheric story rather than deliver fast-paced thrills, and in its best moments, it succeeds in creating a quiet, lingering tension. There’s a sense of ambition in how it blends psychological horror with elements of folklore and mystery, even if the execution doesn’t always match that ambition. In the end, Alpha Polaris: A Horror Adventure Game is a solid but uneven experience. It offers a compelling setting and a strong foundation for its narrative, but struggles with pacing, consistency, and mechanical depth. For fans of classic point-and-click adventures and slow-burning horror, it can be an engaging journey worth exploring. For others, its deliberate pace and occasional frustrations may make it harder to fully appreciate what it’s trying to achieve. Rating: 7/10
