After 3 hours of into the game and I am not sure if I finished the tutorial or not, I want to warn new buyers. I've should have read the negative reviews more carfully, and I can +1 the have to say. The game lures with its very nice pixel graphic and the topic of "beer", and I agree this is pretty funny and the graphics are nicely done. However, the gameplay is soooooo slow. Maybe it is me, that I am still stuck in some tutorial, as so many things are still locked, but I do not know how to even progress, or to do it faster. The main goal is to sell beer. But you need beer for yourself, for tasks you are given and even create special beer for some goals to reach. But why the hell I am only able to brew 1 beer at a time!?! At the moment I can hire up to 6 workers, but I still can only brew 1 beer due to 1 set of equipment! So I end up waiting with the double speed of stuff to get done. At the moment this just does not feel rewarding. So overall, I've expected a game, where I would have to do more managing, instead of mircro cleaning managing dirt and refill candles. Maybe the game is in there and I've invested not enough time yet... Unfortunately it already lost me.
Torn on this because there's great stuff in this game. But it seems like you're constantly fighting to stay in the green, saving any money is difficult outside of forecasting your income and expenditures vs. labor costs... I don't know it feels way too much like real life. Historically, monasteries and abbeys became these sort of self-sustaining and community-oriented institutions. Then, they became a tiered labor system with recruits being a lower laboring class and upper-level monks being much more of a noble class of monk. "Ale" was brewed far more locally and regularly by alewives (wives of brewers) as hops weren't really common yet. Ale only kept for... two days at most, unless in a cold climate. So the local alewife(s) would hang a branch or cane or something to indicate their batch was ready. People would come by and have their fill and leave. Understand-- I don't expect realism but the way we run the Ale Abbey is not how the Ale Abbey would FEEL. It feels a lot like real life; rushing to meet deadlines, struggling to stay ahead, and most of the pay-offs are ceremonial.
It's possible the late game could be rewarding, but I was stuck in a tedious grind just trying to complete the first act. Your freedom is extremely limited and most of the tasks weren't rewarding when finally accomplished. Worst of all, there was no sign of GOD anywhere in the MONASTERY... not even a wall cross decoration or something...
I really wanted to love this game. The beautiful pixel art and the humorous beer-brewing premise lured me right in. Unfortunately, I should have read the negative reviews more carefully, because I can now +1 everything they warned about. If your idea of a fun management game is watching timers tick down while you micro-manage dirt and refill candles, this might be for you. If you actually want to manage a business, prepare to be frustrated. What I Liked The Aesthetics: The pixel graphics are genuinely very nice and well-crafted. The Theme: A management game centered around brewing beer is a fun concept with some genuinely okay humor. Why It Lost Me (The Bitter Aftertaste) 1. A Slow, Painful Gameplay Loop The gameplay is so incredibly slow. Even at double speed, the first few hours consist almost entirely of waiting around for timers to finish—whether you're researching, brewing, or sleeping. It is an incredibly unengaging start, and honestly, I have better things to do with my limited gaming time. 2. Artificial Bottlenecks that Make No Sense The main goal is to sell beer. However, you also need beer for yourself, for specific tasks, and for special milestone goals. Despite this massive demand, you can only brew one beer at a time. Right now, I have the budget and capacity to hire up to six workers, but I’m still stuck brewing a single batch because I'm restricted to one set of equipment. Why? Maybe it's because I'm stuck in an endless tutorial where everything is locked, but the game gives absolutely no direction on how to progress or speed things up. It just doesn't feel rewarding. 3. Frustrating Recipe & UI Systems The brewing system itself feels more like tedious work than fun: Recipe Pain: Creating recipes is a nightmare because you have to restart the process over and over if certain characters aren't available. Cluttered Recipe Book: There is no way to delete old brews, meaning your recipe book quickly fills up with random, failed attempts and garbage efforts. Opaque Data: The brewing outcomes and pricing structures are not transparent at all. While the game tracks statistics, the user interface does a terrible job of displaying them in an easily interpretable way, making strategic decisions feel like guesswork. Final Verdict The game lacks engagement and immersion. Aside from the UI issues, the lack of voice acting really hurts the atmosphere and fails to bring the characters to life. Instead of a deep management sim, it feels like a shallow cycle of waiting around and doing chores. Maybe the "real" game is buried dozens of hours deep, but it has already lost me. If you value your time, I'd suggest skipping this brew.
Found the gameplay loop very boring. I know I didn't play much but even the first hour is mostly consisting of waiting around for timers to finish (research / brew / sleep / etc.). Not engaging start at all, and frankly I have better things to do with my very limited time.
Tedious and grindy with barely any interaction from the player besides chores like filling up lights and cleaning... You barely turn a profit on anything you sell so it takes hours and hours to progress even buying a single piece of furniture, all the while you sit there holding F5. I'd rather just press Alt + F4 thanks. Sadly, I was stupid enough to try and give it a chance; ending up overplaying past the refund window by accident so cannot refund now :(
This is one of those games that exposes the flaws in the thumbs up/down system. I'd split this one right down the middle. If I got this for $3 or $4, I'd recommend, but it's so on the fence that with anything but a steep sale, I just can't recommend. There's nothing new after 5 or 6 hours. I left my game open for a long time because I couldn't be bothered to come back to it with how hard the gameplay falls off. I'm giving this a very slight thumbs up, only because the art is lovely and it's a vibe, but buy it on sale.
A fun little game to play for a few days. I did get all achivements and it was a little bit repetative to brew that much ale.... but other than that the game looks good and does what u want it to do. It is a good management simulator and I highly recommend u try it out :D
The Demo was a lot fun. The main game is not.
Es entretenido, pero tiene 1 año casi que está abandonado...
