alchemy: origins is a very basic matching game, exactly like doodle god and the rest but less mobiley in nature. that franchise (and developer) doesn't exactly set a high bar anyway. you start with 4 elements (you are captain planet!), gotta create 400+ items in all sorts of categories by pairing them up. air + air = wind, water + salt = sea, bird + corpse = vulture, bread + hole = bagel, etc. categories include plants, animals, people, food, tools, and so on, and of course can be filtered as such, but a search function wouldn't hurt. matches mostly make sense if you think about it (livestock + cloud = sheep), though getting grape from wine was a bit weird. maybe I could've reached grape first via a different combinatory route, as many things have multiple pairs of origin. an optional and replayable tutorial explains the basics, tooltips on mouseover help identify icons. if you get stuck, up to 3 hints are available, then you have to wait for more (it starts recharging as soon as one is used). further handy features are a history of found matches and one that turns up after finding every combination of a certain item. after that you can leave them be, gray them out or hide them. the upper half of the screen can be shrunk a bit to make room for more combinable items on the bottom and progress is saved when you quit. it's not a bug-free experience, though nothing major. both the hide items and hint buttons reset when you quit, the former is whatever, 2 clicks, but quitting with all 3 hints available and getting a big bowl of nothing with a cooldown next time is not great. browsing items is even worse after a while. it must disregard hidden stuff or something and instead of putting the next 27 items on the following page, it only adds a few more, so there are way more pages to flip than there should be and it got old fast. also, the game says 408 pairs but there are 409 and one of the achievements doesn't kick in, gets stuck at 49/50 after finishing the game. simple mouse controls, click, click, see if they match, next. there's a lock button, so you can keep one thing in place while trying it with everything. brute force isn't exactly puzzly but it's an option. or you can limit yourself to whatever makes sense, then it's just a handy way to save on clicks. good enough presentation with decent music, wherever it's from (nobody's credited with audio). I found the annoying incorrect match sound appropriate punishment for clicking through everything with reckless abandon. settings-wise it has the basics available anytime: separate volumes, resolutions, windowed mode, a few languages and v-sync. different player profiles or save slots would be nice to keep progress separate. if you like the concept, try the demo, and if you're convinced, grab it on sale. progress carries over, you might even learn something, but 4 eur is way too much for something like this even if bugs get fixed. still, better support this developer than joybits (doodle series among other lazy trash) and their broken/abandoned games, mobile shenanigans, dlc spam and price ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. a very similar game from this dev is rpg alchemy, might be more involved than this (or not) and has a demo as well.

Combine elements, producing other elements. Basically try every combination. You start with four elements (air, earth, fire & water), which you can combine into other things, such as fire + water = steam. Out of these four elements 400+ results will come out. Some combinations are logical, some are funny, some strange... It's a process to discover all. The problem however is if you want every result you have to try every combination, which is a rather laborious task... The game caters for this by making it possible to keep one of the elements locked. The gameplay is very similar to Doodle God, but the developer pointed out in the comments below that this type of game far predates DG. So therefore I have to amend my review, leaving the original text in strikethrough. The possibility of discovery is not enough for me to recommend it. The gameplay doesn't offer enough other than just trying everything. [strike] When I was playing this game I noticed that I already played this game, it's called Doodle God. When I was about thirty discoveries in, I looked up a list of combinations, swamp+life=bacteria, tried it in Alchemy Origins, yap the same. Some extra checks: stone + life = egg, check egg + sand = turtle, check sand + worm = snake, fail Okay, not a total copy. They also added many discoveries. Nowadays many games get their ideas from other games, and it's really hard to prove what game was the first, not to speak of the legal jungle surrounding it. All I can say that my gut tells me this is too similar to DG. I haven't unlocked human in the game, but I wonder if two humans equals sex, and human with sex equals censorship?
Create new things by combining two componenets. You've undoubtedly seen something similar before, but if not, there's no need to learn sophisticated techniques because the game is quite basic. Anyone can play. All it takes is clicking on icons that symbolize various things. The fun is about experimenting. You only start with four basic elements that ultimately lead to over four hundred different "inventions". They are organized into many tabs for ease of management. There's nature, plants, animals, and a whole lot more. Combining two things creates something new. You never know when anything will work, and you can even try combining the same two things. Although certain outcomes may appear implausible, there is always a logical explanation. Although the game already has ample content, it improves the experience with useful quality-of-life elements. The first feature is the ability to lock one item in place. This is really useful for quickly trying out new combinations. The other is a hint that adds one component and requires some time to recharge but can be used indefinitely. The third part is that items that do not lead to a new idea can be grayed out or removed. This saves a lot of time. There’s one little bug that can happen when trying too many combinations in a short time. It messes up the game because you can’t click on anything and nothing seems to be working. The only way to fix it is to quit and restart the game. There’s also no real ending. When you mix the last two components, you’re left with an empty board and nothing to do.
沒邏輯,玩到後面就是不斷全點,音效越聽越煩躁,還越來越卡。
Please follow United Critics for quality reviews
Story
There is no story. It is just a typical alchemy game – most of them have no story and only some of them inform you that you are some kind of god or powerful being tasked with something. Because there is no story there is also no real ending to the game and I think injecting some story at the start of the game and creating some kind of ending would help this game a lot. It would also make players feel more rewarded for creating all the possible objects.
Gameplay
You start the game by having only 4 elements – air, earth, fire, water and you have to combine them with themselves and with each other to create more complex objects. And then you combine more complex objects with the elements and other more complex objects and you will do it many times as the task of the game is to create all the 409 possible objects. The good thing I noticed is that for some objects there can be a few combinations that will lead you to the same object. It feels good to find a few different combinations for the same object by yourself especially when all of them are logical. But I must point out that when combinations are logical like axe and tree creating wood or at least funny like bread and a hole to creating a bagel there were some that just made me stare in disbelief and I would not even consider them existing in the game without the hints system – like combining glass and pancakes gives me a window?! The logical combinations and the funny ones makes you feel good for playing the game because you either think logically or a little outside out of box but still apply logic and it is nice when this is rewarded with new combinations creating new objects but when you combine some random things and they suddenly create something new it does not feel good as there is zero logic and zero thinking involved. I had good fun for first 70% of my gameplay time just by thinking about objects that I have and what can be combined with what. The last 30% was just bad for me as I was constantly locking one object and trying to just spam click other objects just in hope of getting some random combinations without any logic and I was spamming hints button just to know what objects are left that can create anything for me. This leaves a bad taste in player mind after he finishes the game as the last part of the game makes it feel like not logical thinking but random spam was rewarded in the end. This game has a mechanic that allows you to lock one object so you can just click on all other objects and try to spam possible combinations that way in hopes of creating something new. It also has a button responsible for hints that does put one out of two objects from a possible combination that you didn’t discover into your combine area. Combination of both mechanics make it very efficient to just first click hint button then lock down that object and spam all other objects to find the combination the hint button was hinting at and some others. And while using your own brain to find working combinations is fun – just using hints and locking an object to try just combine it with everything else is not fun at all. But the existence of object locking mechanic and hint button means that maybe this game was developed with that way of playing it in mind. I think the game would be better if some bizarre combinations were removed and replaced with some more logical ones to keep that 409 number of possible ones to be just discovered by the player without hints and spam needed. I also found out a few bugs. When you click too fast and this happens when you try to spam different combinations by keeping one object locked the game can sometimes just stop responding to your clicks and you have to restart the game to fix that and be able to play again. The other bug I found is that while the game gives you a mechanic that lets you gray out objects that have no more combinations and that is working fine it also lets you just outright hide all these objects and that bugs the game. It makes the game much slower and game responds to player clicks with a second or two seconds delay and that makes clicking the arrows on the bottom stripe frustrating because it does combine the delay response bug with how the hide mechanic works as it is not showing the hidden objects to the player but it still loads them and while you don’t see them you are forced to click past them. What I mean by that is that if you have 30 objects grayed out and now you will hide them you will still have to click the arrow 3 times to get past these 30 objects without even seeing them. This makes the delay bug feel worse as you click the arrows 3 times just to see new objects that you can use. It happens when you are on the all tab and is somewhat less noticeable when you are on other tabs that sort objects into categories – still this should be fixed. It is strange that graying out objects have no impact on performance but hiding them does.
Graphic and sound
What you see on screenshots is what you get. Everything is clean and icons presenting objects are nice and it is easy to see what all the objects are even when they are at the bottom stripe without the text. I found out that music in this game is a good mix of songs for such game as they enhance the gameplay without taking the spotlight away from it.
Conclusion
An alchemy game with nice music and many different combinations for you to try. Overall score 5.5/10
很烂,连续玩两个小时会卡死,没有云存档,合成逻辑混乱
