Alcatraz Builder is a strategic, path clearing, time managing puzzle game. Your goal is to clear the path from obstacles, bring items from point A to B, build and upgrade factories, hire people to get everything done faster and take down enemies. The levels only take a few minutes each to clear but are easily completed. However, it's frustrating yet addictive to achieve that perfect score of 3 stars. Alcatraz Builder reminds me a lot of the 12 Labours of Hercules series. But comparing those two games together, this one felt a bit off.. All the levels look extremely similar and this made it feel repetitive and boring. To those that enjoy these type of games, I highly recommend you to check out the 12 Labours of Hercules series instead. I personally enjoyed those more and they are also cheaper.
Time management game in which you build and expand the prison on Alcatraz, managing workers, resources, and the completion of subsequent construction stages ✅ Levels become increasingly difficult ✅ Pleasant graphics and music ✅ 50 levels, with 3 stars available on each level ✅ Very good price for the game's content ✅ The music perfectly matches the game's atmosphere ✅ Historical facts about Alcatraz between levels add educational value ✅ The graphics are decent ✅ Resource and worker management are excellent ✅ Additional challenges (bandits, thieves, pelicans blocking the path) add variety ❌ To earn currency for upgrades, you have to replay previous levels and farm for resources ❌ Lack of variety on the maps ✅✅✅ Verdict: [strike] Terrible [/strike] , [strike] Bad [/strike] , [strike] Mediocre [/strike] , [strike] Decent [/strike] , [strike] Good [/strike] , [b] Very Good [/b] (Rating scale for short games, retro indie simulator games and similar) [quote] If you'd like to see more of my reviews, you can find them on my curator page: [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45994324/admin/reviews_manage/]CuratorKingViking[/url] and on my group: [url=https://steamcommunity.com/groups/CuratorKingViking]GroupKingViking[/url] If you have any questions about my reviews, feel free to ask. Not bad.
As much as I don't want to dislike this game, as MANY people have pointed out, this appears to be a mobile port with the wrong sort of Pay to Win mechanics involved. The story and the facts about Alcatraz are alright. The gameplay is stand clicker fare. The first ten levels are ok, fun even. Easy to the point of being boring almost. Then all of the sudden you hit the wall, hard. No way to complete a 3 star level on the first run even with gems. I played the game to completion just to be sure that this was the case and yeah, it was. For the most part with the exception of one really frantic level you can 2 star the last 40 levels. As someone mentioned, if you unlocked the upgrades and they were permanent, then I would honestly recommend it. It was not a bad idea at all, just very poorly executed on the PC.
3/10 an ok mobile game
Avoid. It's a mobile game ported to PC and a terrible one at that. Gameplay is very repetitive after the first few levels. An exceedingly huge amount of micromanagement needed to do even simple tasks; clearly pitfalls to bait you into spending on microtransactions to automate things.
It's alright, but gets repetitive very fast. The game itself seems like it would be more appropriate for mobile or tablet, and i didn't feel like it explained the concept very well in the beginning, though i quickly understood. I didn't care much for the small facts, and also there are problems with the in game currency. It is like it's meant to be bought as microtransactions, but instead when you click buy, you just recieve it, and that's no fun. It seems unfinished.
I really wouldn't recommend something so unfun. It's like a timed "puzzle" game where you just click click click click click oh would you look at that, cant deliver because theres a bird in the way. I would say this game hasnt aged well because i thought it was from '98, but now i see it was released in 2014 and that just makes everything a whole lot worse. It's a complete waste of time with no meat to the matter, there's no achievments or anything so no matter how far in i went, it just doesnt feel like ive accomplished anything
