It's not bad, it's just very mediocre and doesn't have basic qol like rebinding keys, window size multiplication or decent frame pacing. No matter what you do, the framerate jumps around a lot, even entirely skipping frames. Not just "oh it was only there for a moment", but outright "that frame just didn't appear at any time". the enemy patterns are all very rough and break game design fundamentals, like random movements that exceed your attack radius/safe distance control, and you aren't given the appropriate kit to reliably avoid damage. the environment design is very basic and function-first, but also not very functional to navigate. It gets very slow going from place to place very early on, and the slippery movement and blind jumps make it easy to miss your target and get set back, wasting more time. it pretends to be a search-action, but the hints are very straightforward, there's very little to explore so far, and the game has been completely linear in terms of progress. there's no save point in the second dungeon, and the only savepoint nearby is likely to be missed until you exit out of the dungeon. Combine that with a long treck from the nearest savepoint to said dungeon, and it's just needless timewasting. Similarly, a lot of other aspects of the game seem to want to slow you down. music isn't offensive, but also isn't that good. same with the graphics and sound. It's all very "this is good enough right? have I met the quota yet?" The writing so far has been downright bad; I don't expect a deep plot, but if you're going to have a shallow get-the-mcguffin-to-save-the-day plot, get the text out of the way already. It doens't matter that "someone wouldn't really say that" because nobody cares about these characters or this story. The game has an awkwardly long blank when opening the menu as if to mimic bank switching or high-dpi rendering in cartidge games, but it's just kind of awkward and wastes more time. It might be worth it if you've run out of better games to play and are desperate for something search-action dressed without any real search in it. It might be worth it for $2. I would recommend aiming for less unless you're desperate. MSRP is out to lunch on this one. There's just so many better games out there nowadays.
