AFFECTED: The Manor - The Complete Edition, developed and published by Fallen Planet Studios, is a virtual reality horror title that fully embraces the idea of fear as an experience rather than a traditional game. Designed from the ground up for VR, it places players inside a decaying mansion where atmosphere, sound, and anticipation do far more work than mechanics or narrative exposition. Instead of relying on puzzles, combat, or elaborate objectives, the game focuses on immersing the player in a carefully paced haunted environment, turning the act of simply walking through hallways into a nerve-wracking ordeal. The central experience revolves around exploration and survival within The Manor, an abandoned and ominous estate filled with dark corridors, creaking doors, and unseen presences. Movement is deliberately slow and deliberate, encouraging players to absorb their surroundings and remain constantly alert. There is no map, no clear guidance, and no reassurance that any path is safe. This design reinforces a persistent sense of vulnerability, as every corner feels like it could trigger something unexpected. The game’s horror thrives on uncertainty rather than constant jump scares, letting tension build naturally as players question what might happen next. The Complete Edition expands the core experience with multiple modes that recontextualize the same environment in meaningful ways. The standard mode emphasizes pure atmosphere and fear, allowing players to move at their own pace while the manor reacts subtly and unpredictably. The Gauntlet mode introduces a competitive edge by challenging players to escape the house as quickly as possible, transforming fear into a time-based obstacle and adding replay value through leaderboards. The Darkness mode strips visibility down to almost nothing, forcing players to rely on a flickering candle to illuminate their surroundings. This drastically heightens tension, as limited sight turns even familiar spaces into sources of renewed dread. What sets AFFECTED: The Manor apart from many horror titles is its minimalist interaction model. There are no puzzles to solve, no enemies to fight, and no inventory management to distract from the experience. Every design decision serves to keep players focused on their senses. Sounds become vital clues, with distant footsteps, whispers, and environmental noises creating a constant psychological pressure. In VR, where spatial audio feels intimate and personal, these sound cues can be deeply unsettling, often causing players to react instinctively before anything visibly happens. Visually, the manor is crafted to take full advantage of VR’s sense of scale and presence. Hallways feel claustrophobic, ceilings loom overhead, and rooms feel uncomfortably close, creating a strong illusion of physical space. Lighting is used sparingly but effectively, with shadows obscuring details and forcing the imagination to fill in the gaps. The visual fidelity is not about realism but about mood, and the environment succeeds in conveying decay, abandonment, and menace through its design rather than through overt horror imagery. The pacing of the experience is carefully controlled. Moments of quiet exploration are punctuated by sudden, startling events that keep players from becoming comfortable. Importantly, these moments are not always predictable, which prevents the experience from feeling scripted even after repeated runs. However, once players have explored all modes and learned the layout, the sense of surprise naturally diminishes. The game’s replayability relies more on emotional endurance and performance challenges than on new content or evolving systems. Reception to AFFECTED: The Manor – The Complete Edition reflects this design philosophy. Players who approach it as a VR haunted house tend to praise its atmosphere, sound design, and ability to elicit genuine fear. Those expecting deeper gameplay systems or longer narratives may find it limited or brief. Its strength lies in intensity rather than longevity, offering a concentrated dose of horror that is most effective in short sessions. Ultimately, AFFECTED: The Manor – The Complete Edition succeeds by understanding the strengths of virtual reality and committing fully to them. It strips away traditional gameplay complexity to focus on immersion, presence, and psychological tension, delivering a horror experience that feels personal and immediate. For players seeking a pure VR horror experience that prioritizes fear, atmosphere, and sensory immersion over mechanics or storytelling, it stands as a compelling and memorable journey into the unknown. im trying to play on htc cosmos and it seems the left joystick has no purpose when it is supposed to run? why doesn't it work?I have to move around the room and slowly turn the perspective... is there a way to fix this?
I have this on Quest 2 and was waiting for anyone at all to mention if this version works on the Quest 2, but never happened...so I decided to see for myself. It does indeed work, but I needed to turn the refresh rate down to 72hz. I am guessing this game doesn't play nice with higher refresh rates because that was the only way I could get it to work without glitching out! I used Quest Air-link with the 200mbps dynamic setting over the 5ghz band of my asus router, using a 9900k and a 3070ti. Cons: 1) Its just like the quest 2 version, but it does work. It suffers the same issues as the Quest 2 version....meaning the low graphics quality, and even though it has smooth movement which moves at a decent speed, the turn portion is so slow it might as well not work at all! Thus you must use snap turn or manually move yourself. It does not have teleport. 2) They allowed access to the Legacy version which judging by the comparison images I saw looks 10x better, but apparently didn't care enough to make sure everything checked out...thus the controls don't work at all...which is a massive bummer. From what people have said on here the Legacy version is missing a file related to the controls. 3) No achievements, they apparently just copy and pasted the Quest 2 page...cause it speaks of achievements, but there are none here on steam. Conclusion: This game could of been something great, I love these kind of haunted house games. I know a lot of people find them cheesy but there is something very thrilling about going though a haunted mansion in the dark with very little light! I just wish I could experience the Legacy version. Unfortunately it seams the devs have fallen into a dark void...
не страшно
This game is a scam. be smart don't buy this!
♥♥♥♥ Myself 👍
