Affairs of the Court: Choice of Romance

I love the 'choice of' games. I've played a lot of them, but that's the first game I can not recommend. Unfortunately, it does not feel like you really have a choice. Although it is in the name. The game is about to start an affair with the king. You have no choice in this point. If you take one of the other two romances, the game and your story is over in less than an hour. The other two acts after this are about staying with the king. Again, you have no choice. You can not retreat or choose a different path. That's the way you have to go, or the game is over. In other words, you're the king's sex toy and your only choice is whether you're honest or scheming. It's a shame as the other 'Choice of' games make you feel free to choose and write your own story. Here you have the feeling that you have to struggle to stay in the story. Which is okay n a way, but then it should be described differently in the description. [Spoiler: I played as a gay man. And yet I got 'physical' children with the king. It would be better if you had the only option in this game to be a woman. You did not feel like a man for a second, but always like a woman. Which is a pity. I love to play as a man.]

I can only recommend this game if you don't mind being a cuck. I walked in on my wife having sex in our bed with a younger man and my only options were to cry, run away or scream "How could you do this to me!" like some castrated effeminate wuss. Hell all the men in this game except your uncle are written to be effeminate and submissive. Even the king consort, knowing his wife is cheating on him with me in another playthrough, just runs away to his family's estate because he's sad instead of picking up a sword and fighting for his wife. Either way the afformentioned bedroom scene ends with her having the guards remove me from our room so she can go back to having sex with the other man and you just have to pout & deal with it. ♥♥♥♥ this netorare cuckold ♥♥♥♥. I got a set of cojones and I won't ever be buying from this author again. Oh and another stupid thing about this book is two of the same gender can have babies together because well... magic. ♥♥♥♥ the fact that a man's body has no organs to house, much less support a fetus or a woman can not produce seed, it's magic. Yeah...No. ♥♥♥♥ this stupid trash.

Даже не знаю, что тут можно сказать. Вот это вот - женский любовный роман, причем не в самом лучшем смысле этого понятия. Отсутствие отвратительно написанных постельных сцен делает его чуть лучше, но ересь, которую создатели наворотили с выбором пола/ориентации дает отвратительнейший привкус, если вы пытаетесь играть чем-то кроме гетеросексуальной женщины [spoiler]мужского персонажа, по-моему, тут можно делать только ради знатной порции кринжа - ибо даже если вы играете мужским персонажем, ваше стремление произвести впечатление на королеву сразившись и посвятив ей победу, вызывает у окружающих откровенное недоумение. Хрупкий юноша идет сражаться. Как же это... скандально![/spoiler]. Первая часть (всего их в игре три) - это про то, что бы склеить женатого мужика/замужнюю женщину при власти. Вторая часть - сделать дите определенных параметров, дабы была возможность усадить именно его зад на королевский престол. И только в третьей, где уже конец истории, начинают мелькать опции плюс-минус достойных деяний. Meh. Ну, окей, это можно пройти ради того, что бы добиться определенных целей. Или "прочитать" как книжку - хотя это [b]и есть книжка [/b] [spoiler]но мне из такого больше зашли интерактивные книги серии "Ужастики" и книжки-квесты с дайсами[/spoiler]. Но что меня [i]несколько[/i] вгоняет в определенную фрустрацию и дало весомый повод ткнуть в палец вниз, это то, что ряд игровых ситуаций выведен в качестве DLC. Да, дешевых, да, они не обязательны для приобретения и их всего три, но они [b]существуют[/b]. Стартуйте консортом, облегчите себе жизнь! Ваш ребенок будет Магом Жизни без лишней возни! Хотите убить принцессу? Докупите к книжке DLC. К книжке. DLC. Е-мое...

Honestly, I could wax poetic about Choice of Romance (COR) for far longer than would be responsible, or that would follow Steam guidelines. [b]Summary:[/b] Choice of Romance allows you to spend a season at court, and to experience all the scandal, intrigue and romance that could come from this once in a lifetime experience. While this game might not have the bells, whistles or length of some of the newer IF games, Choice of Romance crafts an engaging and exciting experience. [b]Some Things You Might Want to Know:[/b] - You’re going to have to deal with pregnancy/heir talk - feels oriented toward a f!protagonist - Binary-oriented thinking (Is your character M/F? Is your character interested in men OR women? Etc.) [b]Things I Loved:[/b] - I haven’t picked up COR in a few years, but when replaying it for the purposes of this review I ended up playing it over and over again all day. It’s so easy to get invested in the dramatics, and to imagine your character growing over the years. - The intrigue! I came for the romance, and was led to saving cooks, spreading rumors, and trying to keep my character’s head on her shoulders (I failed at the last thing, unfortunately. Time for a new playthrough). - I love games that are unapologetically about romance. This is one of them. I wish the Heart’s Choice games were a bit more like COR because it feels like even when I’m progressing the main plot, the game doesn’t suddenly forget people my character was interested or relationships that were progressing. - One thing that I really like mechanics-wise about this game is the quick start options. As much as I like to play through a complete experience, I REALLY don’t like being punished in long games. That immediately kills replay value for me. Since COR has three games in one, the save files and quick starts made exploration a reasonable reality. - The unexpected romance! Okay, this won’t make sense until you play the game, but you can find love in unexpected places. - I actually find the way that they treat gender really interesting. - This game lets you pick out your motivations, and that helps makes your character feel more fleshed out. [b]Things I Don’t Love:[/b] - Pay-to-play-this-way mechanics. They’re avoidable, but I’m just not a fan of these types of things. - Characters feel especially indistinct--this might actually be a boon for others, but I prefer more concrete characterizations. [b]Final Thoughts:[/b] Overall, the replayability more than anything makes this game easily worth the price, and if you’re curious about interactive fiction/interested in romance-based games, COR is a great place to start.

A very good game. I cried at the end because I was so worried I wouldn't be able to get a happy ending with my former girlfriend, but I Did. I wish you didn't have to choose between having All Male and All Female love interests (apart from a love interest in the later stages who's always male, I believe?) but I liked having a Courtly setting that had no issues with same-sex relationships, and that the game ignored (and inverted, if you play a man with female LIs) usual gender dynamics.

(Игра изначально проходилась мной на андроиде, поэтому мало времени наиграно в стим) Интригующий сюжет, заставляющий переживать и за своего персонажа, и за других (даже за тех, кто практически не появляется "в кадре"). Вариативность характера ГГ и немалое количество концовок (хотя некоторые не особо различаются друг от друга) делают игру довольно увлекательной. Я до сих пор не уверен какая из концовок мне нравится больше. Из недостатков могу выделить только 2 основных: 1. сюжет всё-таки ориентирован больше под женского гетеросексуального персонажа, и это особенно заметно в моментах, затрагивающих тему деторождения 2. если ГГ не станет заводить/продолжать отношения с Королём/Королевой, то игрок фактически обрезает себе две трети игры и натыкается на Хорошую концовку, которая в контексте игры выступает как Плохая. Т.е. отношения с Королём/Королевой обязательны для полноценного сюжета, а другие ЛИ второстепенны и развить с ними полноценную линию отношений довольно проблематично

This game is very short, and only one pathway gets you further in the story despite it seeming to have so much potential with the other options. It was nice the first time I read it, tried playing differently a couple of different times, but it got boring quickly.

You can be either sex (pronoun) but not either gender. This matters for a Romance game in quite a big way. "You want to ride in the tournament!?! But you are a lad- I mean gentleMAN of the court!" I can't recommend this game for men.
