AeternoBlade, developed and published by Corecell Technology Co., Ltd, is an ambitious action-platformer that attempts to blend fast-paced combat, light puzzle-solving, and a unique time manipulation mechanic into one cohesive adventure. It follows the story of Freyja, a warrior whose village is annihilated by a demonic warlord. Consumed by grief and vengeance, she gains possession of the AeternoBlade, a mysterious weapon capable of bending time. Armed with this power, she sets out to rewrite the past and change her fate. It’s a premise rich with potential, offering a mix of fantasy storytelling and the moral tension of altering destiny. While AeternoBlade doesn’t always live up to its grand ambition, it delivers a distinctive experience that combines retro sensibilities with intriguing mechanics. The first thing that stands out about AeternoBlade is its structure. It’s presented as a 2.5D side-scrolling adventure, taking cues from Metroidvania design but leaning more toward linear progression. Players explore a variety of environments—from ruined temples to shadowy forests and ancient fortresses—fighting enemies, collecting relics, and unlocking new abilities along the way. The combat forms the backbone of the gameplay, relying on quick melee attacks, combo chains, and timed use of Freyja’s time-reversal powers. These abilities add a strategic layer to battles, allowing players to undo damage, reposition, or exploit openings that would otherwise be fatal. It’s a mechanic that feels fresh, even when the surrounding combat can be repetitive. The satisfaction of turning back the clock mid-battle to correct a mistake or avoid a fatal blow provides a genuine thrill that few games capture. As Freyja progresses, she gains access to new moves and upgrades that gradually deepen the combat system. The skill progression offers a sense of growth, with players able to invest in attack strength, health, or magic-based abilities to suit their preferred playstyle. The boss battles, in particular, highlight the game’s design strengths. Each one requires memorizing attack patterns and using time manipulation creatively to counter overwhelming odds. These encounters are where the game’s mechanics shine brightest, forcing players to think tactically rather than relying on brute force. The moments when you barely survive a boss fight by rewinding time to dodge an attack or deliver a perfectly timed combo feel genuinely rewarding and reinforce the central theme of controlling one’s fate. However, despite the strength of its concept, AeternoBlade suffers from uneven execution. The level design often feels functional rather than inspired. While some areas incorporate clever uses of the time-reversal mechanic to solve environmental puzzles, others fall into repetitive combat corridors or straightforward platforming segments that lack variety. The “Metroidvania” label is somewhat misleading—there is limited backtracking or interconnected exploration, with most levels following a clear, linear route. The combat, while flashy, can become monotonous due to the limited enemy variety and predictable attack patterns. Once you’ve mastered the timing of a few core combos, the challenge often comes more from endurance than strategy. Still, when the game finds balance between action and puzzle-solving, it delivers moments that hint at the innovation it was striving for. Visually, AeternoBlade presents a mixed impression. The character models and environments show ambition, with a blend of gothic architecture and fantasy motifs, but the presentation feels dated. The 3D assets are serviceable but lack the polish expected of modern action-platformers, and the animation can be stiff during cutscenes. That said, the overall aesthetic succeeds in building atmosphere. The use of lighting and shadow gives the world a somber tone fitting for a story centered on revenge and fate. The soundtrack complements the mood well, offering orchestral melodies during exploration and more urgent themes during combat. It may not stand out on its own, but it contributes effectively to the game’s pacing and emotional tone. One of the most distinctive aspects of AeternoBlade is its story, which, while not overly complex, is carried by its central conceit of time manipulation. Freyja’s quest to alter destiny and confront her own power creates a narrative thread that’s more engaging than the typical revenge tale. The story is told through short cutscenes and occasional dialogue, offering glimpses into Freyja’s past and her emotional turmoil. Though the writing occasionally feels awkward due to localization issues, the intent behind the story comes through—a struggle between despair and the temptation to rewrite one’s mistakes. It gives enough motivation to propel players forward even when the gameplay dips into repetition. On the technical side, AeternoBlade runs smoothly and is accessible on a wide range of systems thanks to its modest hardware demands. The controls are responsive, and the time-reversal feature is implemented cleanly without technical hiccups. However, the game does show its age in presentation and pacing, with loading screens that occasionally interrupt the flow. Despite these small inconveniences, the overall experience remains stable and approachable, making it easy to pick up and play. In the end, AeternoBlade is a flawed but fascinating experiment in blending traditional action-platforming with temporal mechanics. It succeeds in delivering a solid, mid-tier experience built around an imaginative core idea. The time-reversal mechanic provides enough novelty to set it apart from other indie action titles, and the boss fights in particular showcase the system’s potential. Yet it also feels constrained by its limitations—repetitive level design, dated visuals, and inconsistent pacing prevent it from reaching the greatness it hints at. Still, for players who enjoy action games with an experimental twist or have a soft spot for old-school side-scrollers, AeternoBlade offers a rewarding adventure. It’s a game that thrives on its ideas, even if its execution doesn’t always keep up with them, and stands as a reminder that ambition—even imperfectly realized—can still make for an engaging experience. - As for the first boss, it's enough to fight. But after that it's difficult. It's hard to cheat if you don't farm. Because you can't run away, you don't have to spend money to buy more dashing skills until you can dodge bosses. - As for the first puzzle, I can tell you that it's very fun. Enjoyed until reaching Stage 7. It's starting to get boring and then some things are difficult but it's fun, but I'm talking about Stage 7, but after that it's very boring, both easy and hard, all boring. - The story part is enough to use for a bit. If it ends normally But in order to get True Ending, you have to do this. Looks like a lot of time consuming, but really, why not make fun of it? And if talking about True Ending, good or bad, now that it's interesting enough - Overview - True Ending storyline is interesting enough, but the game later became boring and not fun. Until there is no interest (let's play around) so I don't want to continue playing. If you want to know the story, you can watch on youtube. I want to play again for True Ending (it's all over) I hope the achievement in my profile tells me how long I've been playing. Honestly, I want to keep them all because it's fun at first. (Everything is almost ok, but it comes off because many things in the game don't match)
My motivation to beat this game dwindles the further I get into it... I'm not joking when I say that this game's best quality is that the opening cutscene has a similar artstyle to Drakengard... Other than that, the story, which isn't all too bad, is just uninteresting as it doesn't really progress at all after the 4th stage of the game... until you reach the final stage... at the very end of it.... I've ran through countless softlocks and frustrating bugs in every single stage of the game... And I felt like I kept encountering more the further that I progressed through the game. Gameplay wise, It's alright... cool time rewinding mechanic, but the game can be very frustrating... especially when a flying enemy decides to fly outside of the screen that it cannot return to, making you have to restart an entire forced encounter from enemy 1... Or getting hit under and/or outside of the map, instantly killing you, which also causes you to restart an entire forced encounter... It happens frequently and for me, MULTIPLE times in EVERY SINGLE STAGE. This game is not worth your money and going on the vengeful quest to defeat Beladim was DEFINITELY NOT worth my TIME. If you still want to get this game, I recommend getting it while it's SUPER cheap.
Miło spędzałem czas z tą grą i ją polecam bo naprawdę warto.
A fun game with a very interesting twist near the end of the game
