The vision of the original devs can be seen throughout the game, but this product is nothing but a barren husk of what was intended. The music, the backgrounds as well as a lot of the animations are stunning, but its ultimately a boring experience finished by whoever they scrambled together to complete it. The writing is bad, the game is extremely repetitive and some of the UX options are questionable. But not building a perfect game obviously isn't close to the worst offense, the way that Focus and Limestone have treated the original devs (most of them now working for 'Mishura Games') is horrible, gross, and luckily very well documented. Please look it up. Its ultimately a waste of money, and that money should not go to the reptiles at the helm of this.
Aeon Must Die! was stolen from the original developers and Limestone and Focus have not paid their dues. Until justice is done, this game will not be worth the space it occupies on digital platforms. The original developers have gone to Mishura Games and are now making IMMORTAL: And The Death That Follows. Check that out instead; a game of their own work that they own. What Aeon Must Die! should have been.
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. I needed to put in a little bit of time to write a review so I decided to test the game to see if it was any good. The game, by itself is.... meh.... It differentiates itself from other brawlers nicely but doesn't have enough at the start to hold my attention. Combat kind of feels a tad clunky and buttons sometimes don't want to come out, but that may be a "me" problem. Overall this feels a tad bland. "But what about the art-style? That's not bland, is it?" Well, we'll come back to that. You might have noticed that I stated I needed a bit of playtime to post a review, along with the phrase "the game, by itself." Here's why: [strike]https://www.mishura-games.com/blog/public-statement-about-aeon-must-die[/strike] Link is down. Thanks for mentioning this, Lost Froggy. Current viewable link is: https://web.archive.org/web/20211022055040/https://www.mishura-games.com/blog/public-statement-about-aeon-must-die The publisher selling this game does not own it. The game, it's art, the IP in general does not belong to Focus Home. It was maliciously obtained by the current head of Limestone Games, stolen from the original developers who had no contract signed officially handing over property of the rights. The original developers of the game (Now Mishura Games, currently creating another game right now) have not been credited or remunerated for their work. They have also provided mountains of evidence supporting their position while Focus Home's evidence has literally just been "trust me..." That, on top of the shenanigans with Frogwares Interactive doesn't give Focus a whole lot of ground to stand on. Unfortunately, the issue preventing Mishura from persuing most of what is required to have the trailer (also stolen) taken down from Focus' Youtube page is the major problem a lot of middle-lower class people face in their lives: Money. They unfortunately don't have enough to pursue legal action to have it officially taken down. In short: Focus Home and the current Limestone Games are scum. AMD does not belong to them and they do not deserve your money. Focus has done scummy ♥♥♥♥ in the past and they need to rein in their greed.
Refunded also its not right to take someone else's work and use it as your own for a quick buck. just google this game and the controversy to see how the original devs got screwed.
Don't let the trailer fool you. This game is trash, save your money and your soul. Go check out IMMORTAL: And The Death That Follows instead. Way better.
The visual style is amazing. The gameplay ideas are fantastic. The story is inadequate and the game gets very repetitive, with a lack of creative enemies with different fighting styles. Also they didn't fairly compensate their artists, which as an artist, is a big no-no for me. Go put Immortal: And the Death that Follows on your wishlist instead, made by the artists who weren't compensated well.
Leave all the politics aside. This game in a nutshell somebody made a mess, then some other folks went and completed the mess. The game is structurally flawed. Moments in the game the enemy AI hits you faster than you could react, audio clues are all over your the place. The amazing cut scenes i saw in a showcase event are not in the game. It is not bad ... i would suggest save your money buy something else you wanted. The game got 4 enemy type and 4 boss fights that's it.
The game has an amazing potential, which unfortunately will never be realized as the original devs were treated very unfairly and they went away. Don't expect it to get better in any shape or form. THe visuals and the whole vibe of 80s cartoons is amazing (especially for someone like me who grew up in the 80s). The whole concept behind the game is awesome. Most of the presentation stuff is great. The problem is the gameplay - it's either punishingly hard (if you want to remain Starspawn and still have story choices) or extremely easy in Aeon mode as you simply can't die and can continue without any penalties after each defeat. The concept of two separate bars that are health bars but are not (YOUR actions influence them too) doesn't feel all that good for me. So far as I've progressed, the story isn't utilized well. This was such a great and intriguing concept - "be tempted by ancient evil and succumb or remain yourself"... But. This was executed very very poorly. Aeon cannot seduce anyone with power. He is simply too dumb and ignorant for all him being an Immortal Emperor (literally he is both). Basically, if you lose battles you lose Resolve and if you lose it all, Aoen takes over your body and prohibits you from making decisions. Cool... but... this is a very base idea and there is no seduction of power or anything, really. You can get Respect points from Aeon if you... beat other guys really very very well. That's it. That's the depth of the story when it comes to mechanics. Aeon Can't Die. Also, after I bought the game and researched its lore online, I have come to know a very big elephant in the room. Seems that the devs of the game weren't properly compensated from what I've seen. I am a software developer, and seeing things like this... I have been treated like that in the past in smaller projects and I know how it feels. Shame on you. Avoid. It could be a much better thing, but that road is closed forever.
Looks dope. Combat executed poorly. A 2d fighting game without being a 2d fighting game. Not a beat'em up. Not very fun, but is very very easy. Do a fight, beat a dude, hop on your bike, do a fight, beat a dude, hop on your bike....
visual - pretty and nice story - dualism stuff is ok but all the rest is boredom combat - can be a little hard to get into some mechanics but still is a flat experience gameplay - very repetitive and for me somehow tedious and it's personal but also found it not responsive in the way i like it SKIP (or look for a cheap key or deep deep sale if you got money and time to waste like me)
