Alright then, so here's what so far and do keep in mind that this IS AN EARLY ACCESS GAME. However, I'd like to point out a few things so far from my.. Well, less than an hour of gameplay thus far and I will give it more time than that. There seem to be no actual sense of direction in the game to begin with. I'm sure it's straight forward for the people that created it, but for someone who just started, it can be hard to navigate as to where you're supposed to go. What happened first for me was that I ran into a fog-wall, which was semi-disappointed as I was hoping for a massive ACTUAL open world game. HOWEVER, it is still in Early Access and it could be fixed later and this could be one way for the devs to say "Hey, go this way instead". I managed to find a tower with some quite interesting puzzles. Not very hard, but hard enough for a first time around. I'm sure they get harder further in. So I suggest an easy to navigate and find quest-log and a bit more of "in depth" tutorial. Managed to find some monsters as well, albeit only two kinds. Wolves and Goblins. I'm sure there's plenty of more monsters further in, but so far that's it, which brings me to my next point. The combat. The combat needs A LOT of improvement. It "kind of" works as it is, but it's wonky AF and feels very off. The lock-on mechanic is weird. Would be fine if it was a one-push-function to lock on and stay locked on while facing the enemy (such as in Dark Souls lock-on mechanic), but holding down the button to semi-lock on to an enemy is weird. And as mentioned, it's choppy and very quick. Felt way off. Lots of room for improvement and I'm sure it will improve as well, so I'm staying positive! Also, speaking of monsters. I didn't find any actual reason to kill them other than to.. Well, kill them. Seemed to be no actual "reward", such as "levelling up" or any form of loot. And seeing as the combat felt a bit off, it wasn't rewarding at all at this point. HOWEVER, it's in early access and all of these things can still be fixed and I hope they do! I will also say that I absolutely adore low-poly games and this one pulls it off semi-great. It worked amazing in the dungeon I was in, but the open world was... Weird. It could just be the color-scheme of extremely bright/white sand and vomit-green grass that didn't actually pull it off that well, but this is an easy fix for the devs and I hope it isn't the final touch of the world, and that they change the colors around a bit. Other than the open world, it worked great! Lovely atmosphere! Speaking of graphics: The character models are.. Interesting. I don't mind the silly looking characters. They have their charm. The navigation of the menu when creating a char felt a bit off though, but it's an easy fix. I'd also suggest adding some more variety to the faces if you're going to have any kind of variety and customization. Something that I did like was the movement of the character when running around. It felt surprisingly fluid when turning around and such. So not much complaint there. Although the horses movement when riding felt a bit off and I would suggest looking into that. Now, I haven't played this game much and I will give it more time and I am looking forward to seeing the development of this game and I hope the devs keep the work up and improve on as many things as possible. I also wouldn't actually suggest buying this game for what it is at the moment, I would only suggest buying it if you want to support the devs in what they're doing. Buying the game and then leaving absolute crap reviews because it doesn't live up to your standards will lower the score on steam and make it harder for the devs to actually fix and finish up the game in the end. Good luck!
A barely-functional thing disguised as a game, Adventures in Aellion would best be avoided. There's not been an actual content update in a little over two years barring Mac support added about a year ago. Developers are MIA. Current content can be experienced in under an hour provided your character doesn't bug into the ground or a wall like mine did. There's also the possibility your Options menus will bug out and overlap requiring a Task Manager shutdown of the game. One of the last screenshots on the store page shows a group of horses staring off over a misty valley in the setting sun. That scene can be recreated but the assumption that clearly visible open world's accessible is utterly wrong. You'll go galloping down the other side of that hill and run smack into an invisible wall. In actuality there's a small stretch of woodland to one side of the starting castle you can run around as well as a couple separate combat scenes you can load into. That's it. Pretty sad. No wonder this has been 80% off multiple times, woe is me for having bought it.
This game has a lot of potential and I'm excited to see where it goes. However, as stated by others when you start you have no clear direction as to what you are supposed to be doing. I found talking with the NPC's helps but with no compass or signs, it's hard to know if you're going in the right direction once you leave the tower. There is no reward for combat except to say you killed something, with that being said there are a lot of hiccups when equiping items from you inventory or when in battle, example not being able swing your sword. So yeah it's early in development, I like the art style, movement and horse riding are good, and I hope to see good updates in the future. I will continue to play as I want to reach some of the bigger monsters shown. Also I would like to ask the developers for some type of background music as you move through the world. It feels so empty and quiet with the rush of wind or howling wolf every once in awhile. Just a suggestion. Ok, with 3 hours in I'm liking this game more and more. I wish I could access more areas and fight bigger monsters but I guess I'll have to wait. Open world area is still pretty empty but the dungeon run that is available was fun. Combat will need work but it is worth checking out.
Played for a little bit. Be ready for lots of bugs and issues. No clear story to follow or even a path to guide you to anything. Does it have potential? Possibly. Issues to fix: When riding horse. The player character lags behind the horse and then bounces back up and repeats that cycle many times. Horse repeatedly turns away from where you want it to go and you can't control its speed at all. Can't dismount horse properly. When you are able to dismount you get trapped inside the horse and can't move. The rivers in game you can walk along the bottom as though there were no water. The inventory often doesn't work. Lack of environment sounds. No fall damage. No idea what the blue bar is below the unusual health icons? Unable to explore as you get blocked by a grey wall of fog. Unable to use weapon. Things I liked: The lighting and colours. The dodge mechanics. Given the extremely bare bones nature of the game I would recommend removing the price and using a platform like HIO or kickstarter to receive funds to support the production of this game. Seems like a really cool idea. Just needs substance. Will be watching this game as it develops but at the moment I do not recommend it, though I'm sure that may change. If those issues are fixed and more stuff added it may peak my interest.
Press [space] + [control & space] + [X] to have a good time. Final dungeon completed in 25.89 seconds. (:
This cute little game just hit early access. The devs are responsive, excited, and willing to share well thoughtful feedback. It is a rough feeling version of the modern Zelda games but with multiplayer. I highly picking it up while it is still cheap if you have a small budget.
I was in single player mode. Lock-on mechanic feels weird. When I got to fight the 3 goblins in the very first level, the game acted like it was locking on since it had the arrow over the enemy's head, but my attacks didn't attack toward the direction of the enemy at all. On top of that, when I got hit while locking-on, I lost the ability to use my sword. I still had my sword, but it wouldn't swing or do anything anytime I clicked. I also couldn't pause halfway through the time I played. When you push a block using E, it automatically starts pushing forward, rather than just grabbing it. The last issue isn't that important for me, but the first two issues are game-breaking.
With just a few hours of game play I love how charming this game is. I can already see it is a game that has the potential to please everyone, gamer or not. I love the fact that you can customise your character, explore the world, ride horses, solve puzzles, and go a little off trail. I can't wait to play more. From my first play when it came out to now, I can already see so many improvements so I'm looking forward to the further development of Adventure in Aellion. Some improvements needed but that's inevitable with early access games. I will be playing some more! I can't wait to see what is to come from the developers.
Save yourself the trouble, this game is 100% abandoned by the devs. Game showed promise several years ago, but bug reports were blown off in their discord channel. Last message from the Devs in the Discord was from December 6, 2022. I haven't left the DC channel in hopes that they'd eventually come back. Will update review if they ever respond to anything, but even their official website has had no activity in years. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS GAME
Just purchased Adventure in Aellion ... I like the atmosphere of the game so far ...
