great installment in the grid-based minimalist non-sokoban puzzle genre. for many games in this niche, solving puzzles feels like stumbling around the maze of state space, hoping the path to a solution presents itself. not for Achromatic. every level in this game is deliberate. one could explain in plain english what the challenges are and how to overcome it. succinct and rewarding. would recommend.

This game starts off deceptively simple but the later levels frustrated me to no end. It's very hard to predict what chain reactions certain moves will cause, which resulted in me brute-forcing a lot of levels and not really understanding what I was doing. However, during the 10 extra levels that changed for me: I looked more at what moves are and aren't possible, what colours can't be the final one and which ones can, ... I ended up really enjoying the final five or so levels, they felt like an actual puzzle with a catch, eureka moment, all that! That logical reasoning was probably the intended experience all along, but it's a shame it took so long to get to that point. More predictable mechanics (or more warm-up levels for new mechanics) would have helped in this regard. Ultimately I think I'd still recommend the game, but don't underestimate it. Don't be afraid to replay older levels to get a feel for the mechanics, so you can use your brain more while solving these puzzles. It's a lot more fun that way.
I'm afraid the top review of this game summarizes my feelings pretty accurately. New mechanics are introduced without any text or explanation, and while this might work in a game with more visual clarity such as Portal, the lack of clear explanations really bogs down the puzzle-solving of this game. While you can change tile colors in any puzzle pretty easily, there's exactly 1 correct solution to each puzzle. Made a wrong move? Good luck figuring out where you went wrong without consulting a guide. It isn't even clear when you've made a wrong move or put yourself in an unwinnable situation. The later levels add more unique mechanics that seem like they make sense at first glance, but they cause later puzzles become more of a frustration than something worth celebrating. If the game provided clearer feedback that you've made a mistake or couldn't solve a puzzle in its current state, I would immediately flip this review to a thumbs up. As it stands, the game is mostly fumbling around for a solution until you get one that works. OST and visuals are nice, but at the end of the day the core gameplay is pretty flawed and isn't worth expanding on.
good.
Elegant puzzles, clean design, zero hand-holding. Kinda like zazen but instead of staring at a white wall you catch yourself staring at two dots for ten minutes questioning your life choices.
An enjoyable puzzle game where colors are used to trace paths and the goal is to change all the colors to a single color. Different icons cause different effects. If you really get stuck there is GREAT guide by Math Dragon currently available. which not only gives you a step-by-step hidden entries but also tells you the ending color (which I am usually good a guessing). Down to the last couple of bonus puzzles.
Nota: 6
Fun little puzzle game, the first 2-3 hours(the main 60 levels) were good fun. Even though I had some trouble with the later main puzzles, I would say that this chunk of the game was enjoyable and fair. On the other hand, most of the 10 bonus levels were complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Worth the price if you get it on sale/in a bundle, 8/10.
