i loved the first aaero, and i absolutely hate this one because of the new shooting mechanic. you have to hold trigger, aim, and let go of trigger on rhythm to maximize score and damage, whereas aaero 1 was a simple aim and press to shoot. looks like this time around, your score is highly dependent on combat efficiency, so expect poor scores unless you master the combat. also, the level design (ribbon-following) is really slow and boring this time around. looks like it was design with co-op/pvp in mind, but it really brings down the single player fun. soundtrack is subject to taste, but i thought it was a step down from aaero 1 as well. all this game did was make me re-install aaero 1. the first game is a blast! play the first and only get this is you have a friend to play with.
I had high hopes for the second game, but gave up after an hour of playing One of my main concerns is the magnet setting; I believe it should be optional. The true joy of this game lies in riding the ribbons, and the magnet feature detracts from that experience. It would be better to have all difficulty levels unlocked from the start, allowing players to choose their preferred challenge right away. Additionally, I found the soundtrack to be less enjoyable this time around. I only really connected with two of the songs, and after unlocking the other difficulties, I didn't feel motivated to replay them. The shooting mechanics also felt off compared to the first game. Personally, I think focusing more on the ribbons would enhance the overall experience for me. On a positive note, the levels themselves are visually stunning, and the bosses are quite entertaining. The first aaero was one of my favorite games on Xbox, and I was genuinely excited to discover the sequel, which I didn't even realize had been released. However, if I find myself with that aaero itch, I will just stick with the original.
I'm honestly surprised more people are not playing these games. Once I played aaero for the first time, I was instantly hooked. 24 hours later and I 100% it. I was hooked and I definitely needed more, So, here comes aaero2, and wow did they improve it a lot more. The songs are banging as usual, but I am nodding my head a lot more with aaero2. The new mechanics take time to get use to, but once you get it down, my god is this game so satisfying. I hope these games keep coming out. I will support it 100%. I usually write something dumb and inappropriate in these reviews, but this time I won't. I love this game so much and hope more people discover it. It makes the instrument in my pants really long and hard, 😆 🤣 😂 Forgot to add, props to the epic boss fights as well, they make my man meat sweat xD 🍖

Would probably give this a neutral review if I could but don't think it 'deserves' a negative review, it's just not to my taste for this Aaero, it just completely missed the mark for me. The magnetic ribbon assistance on lower difficulties doesn't feel good to play, it feels like you're fighting the game while playing it, instead of slowly learning the mechanics. I would rather have larger ribbons (easier hitboxes and bigger size) for lower difficulties and easier gentle but still fun arcs. Once you get into advanced the levels often still feel very empty, you're stuck waiting during transitions of small enemy fights and small sections of ribbons and dead air between. With the 'full' ribbons you're mostly doing little wiggles of the joystick to try and hit the ribbons which is so fiddly instead of more of the larger more satisfying movements. I think this game focused less on what made the first game so fun. Still a great idea and only ran into one bug where the ship and level played on while the camera stayed in the starting area. The environments are also beautiful.
Aaero 2 is a rhythm-based rail shooter developed by Mad Fellows. You pilot a ship through abstract environments, tracing glowing ribbons in time with the music while engaging in combat. The game blends rhythm mechanics with shooting and boss encounters, offering adjustable difficulty to suit a wide range of skill levels. Pros ✔️ A genuinely unique blend of rhythm and ship combat - The way the game ties movement, shooting, and music together feels deliberate and works well. ✔️ Difficulty is approachable for most players - You can tune the challenge to your comfort level, which makes it accessible even if this isn’t your usual genre. ✔️ Strong music selection - The soundtrack is actually enjoyable to listen to on its own, not just serviceable for gameplay. Cons ❌ Music content feels nickel-and-dimed after the initial offering - Once you get through the starting tracks, the way additional music is handled feels a bit much. ❌ Some boss encounters didn’t click for me - A few of them leaned more toward frustration than fun. ❌ Controller is basically required - To really experience the game properly, a controller is needed, which limits how some people can play. Conclusion I liked this more than I expected to. I don’t play a lot of rail shooters, but Aaero 2 managed to keep me interested enough to stick with it and try something outside my usual comfort zone. It does a good job committing to its ideas, and even when certain parts weren’t my favourite, the overall experience still felt cohesive. I may not be the target expert audience for this genre, but as a player, I had a good time with it. Score 7/10 Sonic Trails — A confident rhythm flight that kept me engaged longer than I thought it would.

Oh hey someone made a game that perfectly portrays my personal flavor of synesthesia. Incredibly fun and satisfying, I just wish it had a greater variety of songs
