In this classic adventure game we follow young archeologist Sylvie Leroux. Her uncle, also a famous archaeologist, uncovered a hidden temple containing mysterious artifacts and invited her to Malta to consult his findings with her. These artifacts could be the missing link in her research about the Templar and Hospitalier Knights and some unworldly power that could destroy whole cities (like what happened with Sodom and Gomorrah)… I think? Anyway, as Sylvie arrives in Malta her uncle is nowhere to be found, artifacts as well and the excavation site is under police surveillance. In a search for her uncle, she has to overcome many obstacles on the way and use every bit of her wits to prevent the artifacts from falling into the wrong hands. The main weakness of Chronicles of Mystery: The Scorpio Ritual is pretty short length and confusing storytelling. When you have the feeling that the story is finally going somewhere the game ends, quite abruptly. It's a shame because the theme is rather interesting and could have been further developed. I liked the visuals of the environment and documents, very detailed and pretty to look at. Characters on the other hand were somewhat blurry. Voice acting is mediocre and is sometimes cut off in the middle of a sentence which disturbs the immersion, there are subtitles luckily. There is a standard item combination and a few puzzles, which are mostly of good quality. Sometimes it was a little bit hard to progress as you needed to perform some actions in a certain order, which tends to be confusing. If you are a fan of classic point-and-click adventure games I suppose you can enjoy it, just don't expect something bigger from it.
Played for a few minutes while the voice dialog kept clipping out. Then it crashed at the cave scene. I followed all of the suggestions to run the game clean, but none of them worked. I reinstalled the dependent files, but it still crashes. This game program shell is trash. Why put out a game that the majority of people with good fast computers, who I assume is most of this group, when you know it doesn't even work?! It's theft if you ask me.
This game is short and sweet. Not too complicated, decent story, and decent voice acting. A major con for this version of the game is that the dialogue seems to be a bit broken - cutting in and out randomly (so its a good thing there's subtitles). Another big con is that you will spend a large amount of time watching Sylvie walk slowly across your screen with no real way to speed her up. At $4.99 for about 4 hrs of gameplay, its a decent purchase if you're a big fan of the archaeology/history based adventure games, but its not going to blow anyone's socks off. I enjoyed the game, but for the average gamer there's better things to spend your money on.
Can't in good conscience give this a yes. Its just one in a million cookie cutter PnC games being cranked out assembly line fashion in its time. Kind of like they are now. Remember The Adventure Company? The horror! Story is insipid and dialogue is banal. Puzzles are largely there to make the game last more than fifteen minutes. Which, in my opinion, is why most of these so called "adventure games" had puzzles in the first place. There was no story and characters obviously ripped from current hit movie franchises or other games. Franchises built on franchises built on franchises equals entertainment for an audience with the mean mentality of a fifth grader. Somewhat like cranking out a half dozen multi-million dollar Marvel Comic movies every year for a decade and people STILL line up for them. "Its fun to go to the movies!" Like all of the older games that Steam hawks it doesn't work without tweaking with help from the modding community. Kudos to them. Never did get the sound to work properly which was no big loss because the voice actors sounded like they were reading their lines off bubble gum wrappers... in the dark... with a match... while running late to catch a flight. If your feeling nostalgic for such games of the time and can get it for a couple bucks go ahead. There is always the amusement factor of something this vapid. But then again, there's all that pixel hunting. The horror! The horror!
This game brings the charm of classic adventures. The graphics are stunning and rich in detail, making every scene feel alive, while the voice acting adds depth to the characters and story. If you’re not looking for a brain-burner, the easy puzzles make the game a relaxed experience, and marked hotspots mean no tedious pixel-hunting. The Raiders of the Lost Ark-style storyline is gripping and engaging, paired with atmospheric background music that enhances the adventure vibe. It’s a short game but packed with enough intrigue and style to make it a satisfying experience.
Decent, overall it's a nice point and click game, if you like classics from the past.
Very, very decent. This is not a top-shelf adventure game. In fact, you'll find all the frustrations common to this genre's lesser entries—leaps in logic and morality, occasionally unskippable dialogue and animation, pixel hunting—without any sort of cleverness, originality, or high-end production to make up for it. Nevertheless, I quite enjoy The Scorpio Ritual for what it is: Brief, casual, and by the numbers.
I enjoyed it. The graphics are great and must have looked particularly impressive when the game was released.I liked the atmosphere and the premise. Sure, it's easy and the puzzles are mostly simple and obvious. I finished it without resorting to a hint or walkthrough, though I did use the in-game locator question mark.
