A Winter's Daydream

I haven't been writing reviews for games I've enjoyed because I've been feeling laaaaaazy. But this one doesn't have to be long. This is a kinetic novel so you just read and enjoy - no choices. And it's a story worth reading. It'll tug at your heartstrings and possibly make you reevaluate certain things in your life. If you don't mind just reading, this is a must!

Одним реченням: приємно, що Ебі-хіме додає українську, але настав час визнати, що це вже графоманія. Я подужав менше години цього "сюжету" й там ніц не відбувається, крім поганенького перекладу українською, неправильних референсів на культуру Японії (нашо?) та ниття ГГ. ГГ ниє про все: що його кішка його не любить, що його сестра його не любить, що його кішка його не любить, що його сестра його не любить, що він живе у великому місті, що його сестра його не любить, що він приїхав в село, що його сестра його не любить... продовжувати? А, кульмінацією стало те, що в коментарях від автора тексту перекладач змінив Ебі-хіме стать (ну чи пронаунси). Бо та, читати, як вона вигадала чергову ідею, бо прочитала книгу чи копирсалася в тегах на вндб направду цікавіше, ніж читати саму новелу, й не лише цю.

A short, but (bitter)sweet game. Really makes me miss my late grandmother. The little sister was really annoying and almost a deal breaker, but it's worth sticking around. And no, there's no weird incest w/ the grandma in this, in case you're wondering.

I really didnt expect this Visual Novel to be this good, when I bought it and it was more of a random purchase, but now I am really glad I did. A Winter's Daydream is a heartwarming Story about Family and how you should appreciate them. The Description describes the Story perfectly, but it cant show you all the Emotions that the Developer put into this. The Writing is very good in this Game and it really got me to think about my Grandparents and Family and even though it is only around 3 hours long, it was able to make my emotional and really get into the Story. The Art is also really pretty and the Music fit perfect for the Plot at pretty much all time and made it even more emotinal for me. For 5 Euro you get an incredible experience that I enjoyed a lot more than your average movie and it was only half the Price as well. Even though this Game really isnt popular you should give it a try if you happen to stumble across my Review. I really cant think of anyhting that I didnt like about this Visual Novel, but since I know a lot of people dont like Kinetic Novels I am just gonna let you know that this is one. I was worried this was going to be a weird incest story, but I can happily say that aside from a few jokes and misunderstandings there's nothing incest-y about it. It's actually a rather touching story about reconnecting with family members and reminiscing about the past. I could really relate to the protagonist here. I even got a bit misty-eyed at a few points.

Yuu is a student attending university in Tokyo, who comes back to his hometown in the countryside to spend time with his family during the New Year period. Although nostalgic of the normal everyday life he used to spend at home, he soon finds himself wanting to get away from his little sister who constantly antagonises him and volunteers to pay a visit to his grandmother who he hasn’t seen since a year ago, during his grandfather’s funeral. After speaking with his grandma Umeko, he soon realises how much she has aged during the time he hasn’t seen her and earnestly listens to her stories in hopes of getting to know her better as an individual. During the first day, while continuing their chats well into the evening, they spot a shooting star, and both proceed to make a wish. While Umeko wishes to be able to able to experience her younger days again when she first met her husband, Yuu wishes to repair his relationship with his younger sister and to get along better with her. The next morning, they awaken to find his grandma has reverted to a teenage girl and thus the story follows the pair as they both work towards their own wishes that they made upon the shooting star. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1986510706 I found myself relating a lot to Yuu, also a child who used to find myself in boredom going to my grandparent’s house and having nothing to do, therefore I found Yuu’s perspective of the journey together with his grandma very interesting and it has also inspired me to appreciate the relationships with family and those around me more. Those who have read the description of the story and thought it might be some weird romance story between the main character and his grandma can rest assured, because it’s not :P Overall, I recommend this visual novel to those who are looking for a heart-warming short read, getting the best experience read in one sitting.

The quality of Ebi-Hime's writing will easily immerse you into the Male Protagonist Yuu's homecoming journey as he unwillingly resumes a sibling rivalry with his 19 yr fashion conscious (then again which person isn't at that age!) sister Otoko, is fussed by his Mom and teased by his Father. Expect a rollercoaster of emotions as the writing takes you from heartfelt bonding with Umeko to comedic scenarios with younger Umeko, familiar (and hilarious) verbal battles (or should that be Verbal Bashing!) with Otoko and a romantic theme of reunion & memories. The art and CG's really adds shine to this story with its Winter backdrops, the darkened nights that accompany visual delights of the constellations and the overall Seasonal family bonding merge to create a heartwarming bundle of glee. The VN is designed using Ren'Py & Py'Tom so expect the familiar menu settings ingame and a feature in the Main Menu that unlocks upon story completion. There are 7 Achievements that unlock as each chapter's key moment occurs for the Hunters out there! The Music & Sound Effects are on an equal par with the sprites & CG's adding subtle yet detailed effects such as wind blowing, echoes of walking on flooring, door chimes and more. Any players who have previously read [i]The Way We All Go[/i] may see very subtle familiarities like the antique store scene & its abrupt (but more politer) store-worker, Otoko's friend whose character sprite even brought instant recall and more minor but noticeable similarities. One scene that made me smile was a recollection by Yuu of Umeko teasing him of her Doll named Lisette who, at night, would come alive setting images of being chased by Lisette in Yuu's mind!! Upon completion you will discover Ebi-Hime's inspirations behind this VN which touchingly shows a recognition of our younger child self not fully being able to appreciate (or personally bond) with Grandparents & family members and it also shows us that regardless of age a person still has their personality & unique character that never truly keeps pace with physical aging. The fairytale experience shown of Umeko also showcases how invaluable memories are and how fateful moments are precious. ~~~Liked what you see? MC is kind of a loser, lots of "loser trope" moments. The author got inspo for this novel from grandmother-grandson complex stories.

A Winter's Daydream is a very good visual novel game with a beautiful story. The graphics are nice and the soundtrack is relaxing... The ebi-hime games are really great!!! I highly recommend it. 💗
