Narrative platformer Steam Deck: Playable - although the page and dev says Verified, it only worked correctly for me after changing the resolution to 720. At higher resolutions part of the dialog window would remain on the screen full time (at first I thought it might be a stamina or health meter) With this game, the creators of the Alwa games bring their platforming engine much more narrative. The result a desolate and lonely experience, which is both its greatest strength and weakness. In a story clearly inspired by the Living Dead and Body Snatchers movies, evoking a feeling of emptiness furthers the narrative. But nobody has ever complimented a platformer for its emptiness, and Elden Pixels doesn't really crack that code here. The end result is a pleasant enough game, but if you have no patience for "walking simulators" then you probably won't enjoy this game either.
It’s a simple pixel platformer focused on jumping and climbing with a sad family story. It took me an hour to get almost to the end. There are several areas but they are similar, once you’ve played the first one you’ve seen everything, just shooting switches and zombies and doing more climbing up and down. I played as far as I could but eventually the only path led to a dead end with a panel showing locks. I assume it's a hint to go back and replay previous levels but I had no interest. The main reason I pushed as far as I did was because I knew that if I quit I wouldn’t come back to play again. I’m giving it a positive because I got a key for a dollar on Fanatical, the full price of $15.99 is not worth it. Simplistic platformer with an enjoyable story. The main selling point is definitely the atmosphere, where the music hard carries. Worth the pickup
Man, how is this game so well made, but also lacking ANYTHING interesting? I'm not a huge platforming fan- but I could tell this was underdeveloped almost immediately. The levels consist of gaining height by jumping up, finding doors to open, to open other doors, as you progress past monsters that telegraph themselves for a long time. I got about halfway through, and I'm done. There's no flavor text, environmental storytelling, or anything- in fact, most of the environments are VERY samey. Sorry devs- but I have heard your other series is awesome, so I'll give that one a chance- but this game was literally draining my personal hope.
Elden Pixels does it again, what!
