Alright. A Night on the Farm is done and dusted. I’ve played through the entire game thrice and the ending sequence probably ten times. This one is kind of a slow burn as you contemplate the transdimensionality and surrealism the game presents. The horror in this game is more implied and all about atmosphere. It’s really the exploration of a mystery set in a remote location where some terrible things happened. Vibe-wise, this has a similar feel to some of David Szymanski’s earlier work. A Unity engine walking simulator making great use of assets (developer created in this instance (although actually, Dave does all his own assets as well)) to create a sensible experience. It’s going to be a single sitting game for most people. There are some collectibles in the game. I was pretty thorough in my second and third playthrough. I had trouble finding one strange toy, but it ended up being in a super obvious spot, lol. Achievements are easily earned. The game will lead you to a moment where you need to make a decision with certain implications and which are tied to cheevos, and then will need to answer a set of multiple choice questions which will determine the ending you get, and its implied interaction with the world at large. I’ve seen three of the five endings using a variety of different decisions and answer sets. There is no manual save function and one auto save slot. If you are a completionist, you may need to replay the entire game if you missed anything prior to entering the final areas of the game. Otherwise, the last autosave override is at the perfect spot to play around with the end sequence. Although it shows as ‘playable’ for the Steam Deck, this was my venue for the game and it ran perfectly. Additionally, the two playable notes were inaccurate in my playthroughs. The game always showed controller prompts and all functionality was in fact accessible using the default controller configuration. I imagine it’ll be switched to ‘verified’ status as more people play it. I received this license through our IndieGems Curator program, but I think the asking price is fair. You’ll most likely play through it at least twice, and this is obviously a labor of love project that provides a quality Indie experience. Pretty decent lil horror game. No loud noisy jumpscares or anything like that. Atmosphere is it's strength in my opinion. Very few suggestions for improvement, the only things I could think of is a slightly longer range for interacting with objects, a large FOV and perhaps make it a smidgen faster to look around, and maybe have the [Redacted] react to you looking at it (especially early on) instead of you getting closer to it. Would recommend if you like atmosphere and want to kill and hour (or longer if you want all the endings).
Very entertaining game and will play through again. PS1 graphics nostalgia and gives off "Silent Hill" vibes. Spoiler alert: there is no active farming game play.
Stranded on a farm, with no one around, that you know of... Danger is lurking close by; can you figure out the mystery... Love that there is multiple endings too.
Excellent sci-fi thriller that stands out for its deep and genuinely captivating story and, above all, for its phenomenal atmosphere. Rarely I have seen such a masterful use of graphics, light and sound to create a scary and haunting ambience. Speaking of gameplay, this game is a walking sim with light puzzle elements, but the visuals and the story hints are so engaging and so well put together that I personally did not feel bored even for a single instant. And maybe the most important thing is that this game managed to make me feel goosebumps without any jumpscares, not even a single one. Do you know what this means? It means talent and clever creativity. Absolutely recommended to all fans of sci-fi who enjoy slow-burn, story-focused adventures. Cheers guys!
I really enjoyed this game, which emphasizes story, mystery, and environment over jump scares. It features secrets, multiple endings, and an engaging narrative. My only feedback would be that having manual save points would be a plus, allowing for easier exploration of all endings without the need to replay large portions, but that's a nitpick. Overall, a great pick for fans of mystery and atmosphere in horror gaming.
The game has nice atmosphere right off the bat. I got stuck early on after findin' a hidden key. A walk thru a cornfield maze didn't even help. I was lost. Still I'm intrigued enough to push on. Gameplay Impressions: https://youtu.be/OvFZei6ue3o
pretty good horror game that was enjoyable and design wise it was pretty good only problem is that you have to do a new game to see the other endings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WlbDcVsCRg
I can't finish games that are 20+ hours anymore, so it's nice to have something like this thats entertaining and short enough to play though in a night or two. The game was spooky but didn't rely on junk scares. Bonus points for multiple endings to give it a bit of replayability. P.s. it's hard to pull off good 90's graphics, and these are great. Nice work :)
