This game is incredibly boring, and looks really like it was build by an AI or something. Look somewhere else.
I'm miffed. Let's start with the pros. It's cute, cozy, easy to get through, and explores the concepts of death and funerals gracefully. Trans rights btw. Now the cons. It's $15 for a 45 minute game. Already, that's... a lot to ask. Yes, it says as much on the Steam page. I still expected more. The thing that annoys me is that "A Mortician's Tale" is barely about a mortician. It's about a mortician-flavoured bag of cement who thinks that Big Corporation Bad (as does everyone else in the story, she is not special). The main character speaks in automated email replies, and makes one decision seen through an open webpage and an ending. I'm constantly being told she's a good person between month long gaps, but I have no reason to believe that or attachment to anyone because of it. If the name and marketing was changed and the price dropped to $5, I would genuinely recommend this game! But this is not a Mortician's Tale, nor is it worth the pricetag.

I loved the messages of the game, as well as the insights into the business and profession. It's filled with information surrounding death rites and procedures, which I enjoyed learning more about, but for a text-heavy narative game there were multiple typos! Gameplay isn't revolutionary or particularly entertaining, but manages to keep the game cozy with it's repetitiveness and slow pace. It's peaceful and rewarding nonetheless.

This is a really good game, for both easy operation and nice story.Every story is dapper and unique. You can quickly understand what really happened about those who lost their family members.I love the letters from Rose staff and Jen Love. Maybe we can add something more about Charlotte in the game so that we can better understand what she thought.
I really enjoyed this short interactive visual novel. I originally found this game on a whim during one of the sales and admit I was drawn in because of the color palette. For such a short game, the devs did a wonderful job at exploring death and grief with such care and even nuance. The NPC interactions are brief, but I found them to be fairly realistic in the approach to depicting different layers and ways to grieve. While there are numerous traditions surrounding death practices, this game did open up the discussion for less traditional practices and even brings in the nuances of autonomy and even corporate greed. I love how much the devs were able to pack into such a short game. The interactive portions of the game were perfect for my lower energy, but still gave me enough to work with and keep up with the story line. The music was phenomenal. I absolutely recommend this game, particularly if you are involved with any sort of death care.
DEI / LGBTQ2S!+ trash
An adorable, short game that rolls through the basics of embalming and preparing a corpse.
Nice little story that taught me a lot of different ways a funeral can be arranged. Unfortunately, it's just that, nice it doesn't explore any of its topics particularly well. Normally, I wouldn't recommend this game, especially at this price, but since it is one of the few that approaches this topic and for horror purposes, I think it's worthwhile to play if you get it on a sale
Loved this quick and heartfelt game. I was surprised at how hard the mini game was lol. A longer version would be beautiful as I thoroughly enjoyed reading up on the details of the deceased lives.
