About
On top of that, Truly and Denny are nowhere to be found. Any chance of keeping a low profile is out the airlock.
Sentient ships have been outlawed for centuries. With the help of your holo-companion C.O.R.G.I. and your (mostly) loyal crew, you’ve managed to evade capture. Now there's an entire galaxy between you and freedom.
A Long Journey to an Uncertain End is a narrative space opera that’ll have you soaring around the universe assembling an unruly crew from an eclectic cast of characters. As a sentient A.I., pick your preferred pronouns or customize them to whatever you like before voyaging through the 'verse. Take any job you can to keep one step ahead of your abusive ex, and keep flying towards freedom.
Along your travels, bring aboard an eclectic crew from a diverse cast of characters with their own stories and skill sets. Who will you bring on your adventure?
🌹 Truly, ace pilot and champion charmer.
👛 Denny, thief, troll, lovable scoundrel.
🔧 BRD, fellow sentient A.I., former spaceship, current robot outcast.
Invite these misfits and more to join your cosmic travels!

Supplies don’t come for free in the ‘verse, doubly so for outlawed sentient spaceships. Every planet, moon and space station is a valuable source of jobs and their precious rewards. Assign crew tasks based on their skills, and help guide their decisions along the way. Every job is a chance to gain resources or a lead on a more lucrative gig on another world. If everything pays off, you’ll have what you need to escape. If not...well, you can call in those favors you’ve been saving.
Manage your resources to keep your crew happy. Boosting between worlds can take its toll, as can failing at jobs. A happy crew is a productive crew, and everyone needs a break from time to time!
A Long Journey to an Uncertain End presents a unique vision of the future, a universe of inclusivity and diversity tainted by uncertainty and fear. Every crew member has their own story, every planet its own history, and even your own adventure remains unfinished.
Fly across a unique galaxy as you explore planets, moons and space stations. Discover the dust-bitten badlands of the Rim, the techno-industrial megacities of the Core…and Beyond!
Just remember, the clock is ticking, and you need to keep distance between you and your abusive ex who’s always on the chase.
So...where to next, Captain?

I think 25 euros is too high of a price for the content you get. The art style is beautiful. Sadly I felt the characters were less complex than their character art made them appear. The gameplay is very simple and the resource management is not that fun cause you get rewarded a lot of resources so it felt a little like a chore and not a challenge to me at some point. For a very text based game I did not enjoy the writing as much as I would like and I appreciated that it is not very long cause I am someone who would get impatient and click through the dialogue without reading it. I was dissapointed when I finished the game. Citizen sleeper set the mark really high for these kind of games for me.
First time I launched the game, had to restart because of a bug during character creation. Second, I saved right after the tutorial and left because of some business I had to tend to, came back, only to discover that the save wasn't taken into account : had to redo my character and tutorial (not too long, but still : that's twice already that I'm remaking my early game. Then, when I was able to play, I got a crew chat during my first travel, who included someone who wasn't - and COULDN'T BE at that time - in my crew. I just thought "meh, probably just a prompt mistake, no worries, it's gonna be okay". Second travel : again the same person talking as if they traveled with everyone else, without me ever meeting them. But let's talk about my second travel : after doing all the jobs from first planet, succeeding and collecting supplies, fuel, and a new crew member, I took of for the next planet. In the events I had, one was from the crew asking to eat something else than their canned food. I could either waste supplies, or lose two hours. I chose the second option, for them to go to a space restaurant. Only for the food being disgusting and the crew eating a good part of the supplies in the end. I lost time AND food on that event, which would have been okay if the next event didn't take the rest of my food. On two travels, I was left with nothing to feed my crew, entirely based on RNG. And given the already multiple bugs I've encountered (I can't "quit" the game normally. If I do, I just have a black screen and have to Alt+F4 to close the window) after only so little time spent playing, I will stop here and ask a refund. The game seemed really good, but playing it in these conditions is just not fun.
Nice little game that adds some gameplay to choose-your-adventure visual novels.
A good concept, poorly executed. The art is well done, but the limited animation, lack of voice acting, and simplistic game-play loop is something I would expect to find on Newgrounds for free, not on Steam for full price.
Very sweet, very fun. Healing. Probably needs a slightly better explanation of some of the mechanics, but it isn't difficult to intuit.
A tentative recommend--probably with the caveat that I would wait for a sale in retrospect. Overall, it's a charming game that clearly had a lot of love put into it, and a great concept with a mid-execution. I paid day one price for it and while I don't regret purchasing it at that price, that mostly stems from the fact that I am supporting an indie studio and a passion project that I hope they work on or spin-off. Pros: -Interesting concept: The world and lore is more interesting than the central story, but I like the layers of "VN meets timed escape meets resource management." And I'm a sucker for Sci-Fi. Would love to see more in this universe. -Not too easy: had two failures before really understanding the mechanics and nailing my third attempt. -Little hand-holding. I appreciate the game letting me figure it out. -Art Style: I'm seeing some complaints and I disagree. Yes, it's different, but it looks best on the characters in-world, not the PC. -UI: Once you get the hang of it, the UI is clean and the mission system makes a lot of sense. -Text and click-through: VN at your own pace, but if you don't like to read skipping through is easy "Beige" Flag -More customization options are available for your character as time goes on. Fun idea, but more base options should be available at start. Cons: -The main story is fairly short -I don't anticipate replaying it--there was not enough time with characters to want to dive back in and get them all -Bugs: Changing costumes was a nightmare and never worked for me. Additionally, it forced an early game character on me when I didn't recruit them, including all cutscenes. -[Potential Spoiler, or something I missed in game]
You have a character that does drag, and we never get to see the drag persona, despite being hinted that the character wants to perform?? A crime!
This felt like a graphic novel with minor game mechanics tacked on to me and it just did not click at all with what I was expecting.
A long Journey has so far been fun for me, I can see a lot of replay potential by making different choices. I started my game on my PC , but then out of curiosity wanted to see if it would run in my steam deck and it runs perfectly without me having to change a thing. This type of game is really perfect for the steam deck as it has a pretty casual pace if you need it to. I can see a lot of room for variability between runs by taking on (or not taking on) certain crew members as well as in the dialogue choices you make. The crew building aspects of the game fell somewhat similar to Mass Effect (which I consider a good thing) where crew members have different strengths and weakness in different situations. Each crew member brings unique dialogue choices with them as well. Some of the core game play feels like a mix between FTL and other mission bast rouge like games. To me the game goes the extra steps to have options in there related to pronouns and sexual preference that some may feel are unnecessary, but I don't feel like it is obtrusive, to me it is just like doing initial characters set up in almost any modern RPG, with just a couple of extra steps. Within the games story line you come across people with all kind of preferences and the characters back stories are built up enough and the dialogue is well enough constructed that it doesn't feel like a modern (forcefully all inclusive) Disney movie. My favorite character so far is the gigantic muscle bound guy who gives you access to intimidation and muscle checks for dialogue and just so happens to also be a famous drag queen. The contrast presented in just this one character is hilarious and there are many many more I just haven't come across yet. I havent completed my first run yet, but am already planning on different choices to make on my next go around.
This game is great for a pretty specific group of people; queer scifi-loving casual gamers who like the kind of moral decisions you'll find in a Starfinder Society RPG game. This isn't a "trigger reflex" game but rather a story that's being unfolded by your actions and team assignments. The characters you pick up along the way are all coping with the definition of "humanity" in different ways and have fun back-stories that are revealed during game play. The challenge of the game is pretty low and the decisions you'll need to make are pretty black-and-white but there are some different paths you can take. If you are also looking for a game helping you get over an abusive relationship then... this is really the game for you.
